It really would be great to merge up some of the Light servers. Also to allow those merges to be based on faction side.

I believe that the low population issues are very valid, and effect every player in the game. I also feel that this problem was created the first day of release, there are 123 US Servers by my count. Ummmm, this game is new, in my opinion, this is where the problem started, and it's irreversible. Just way too many to start with, servers should be added as needed. I know that the game would appear to be "new" if it started with 50 servers, would not look so impressive. Well, there are people in all of these servers now, can't start uprooting them, should, but likely won't happen.

There is a way that this whole issue, as well as MANY others can be fixed, go Multi-Realm for PvP Q's, this should have been done prior to release. At the same time, install a Flashpoint Q. I do not appreciate spending my playtime sitting on the Imperial Fleet LFG'ing, as a result, I do not do FP's very often. I HATE same faction PvP

I hope every MMORPG developer from this point on takes note and never makes that mistake again.
You must be high. This isn't the first MMO which made this mistake. Pretty much all of them have made it in the past. And I'm sure they'll keep making it again. They keep going the same thing over and over expecting different results. Or maybe they're just too ambitious about their game and think the whole world is coming to play it right from the get go.

I agree there needs to be some server merges ASAP before they lose more people. Or... They can add some server transfers (free and/or paid).

Clock is ticking

It is amazing isn't it? Not sure what the deal is with these companies but they seem incapable of learning from what has gone on with other games.

I mean this company wouldn't even had to look that much into it for christ's sake considering Warhammer. Yet, they still did.

They all do. Simply stunning to me. I will never understand why so many of them insist on making the same pitfalls and problems for themselves. It is like they think it will be different for them because they're better than "Company Y" or simply know nothing about what has happened historically with these other mmos and companies.

Fascinating really.

I agree. Something has to be done fast. They can't keep sitting on this problem for the next 6 months to a year (like some other games have... they're dead/close to dead now partially because of the same incompetence and I'd hate to see it happen to this game aswell).

this is what blizzard did.

there are different options:
some servers break or have problems or low populations. eventually these servers are offered a free merge/transfer to predefines servers (1 or 2 usually).

i used to play on a server called daggerspine (maybe?), which had lag issues and we were offered a merge to new server called kazzak as was another low pop server called deathwing. the 2 comunities were merged into 1.

this later was done more often.

Take note free merging oportunities usually have a time window, something like "during the weekend of xx to yy players will from servers x and y will be allowed to transfer to z. your character might now me available for 1 hr or so etc..."

later on in wows life when servers were considered old enough, paid transfers were intrduced. these can happen whenever..

as far as names and surnames go the policy was the following. if a character transfering moves to a server where his name is already taken he will have to change it else he can keep it.

as for the legacy system the answer is less obvious. in wow each character transfer costed u $ so unless u will be allowed to transfer all your toons with 1 transfer which i doubt. u will more likely keep the legacy u had but not take your "family"

another thing about names. if 2 servers are merged, and 2 players have same name the one that logs in first would get to keep the name i assume.

thats all

This is something that bothers me as well, especially with EA. I might have stayed with Warhammer but the last straw, so to speak, was the closing of my servers and forced move. Not merger but closing, it didnt matter that I had started and created my toons within minutes of the servers coming up my servers were closed so i had to move and change my character names. This ticked me off, it would have been different if there was a merger and names were kept by creation date or played time or even random, simply losing names miffed me. One really bad experience with EA in this regard almost made me not play this game. Names for many playes are part of who your character is and you get attached.

That is a minor inconvinience to me. The game is completely unplayable to me atm so I'd change my name to Milli Vanilli if it meant I'd actually get to play this as a multiplayer game as it was meant to be played. Heck I'd even pay for a transfer at this point, there's absolutely no point in playing on my server. I've seen some bad decisions by MMO's creating a lot of servers on launch but this one took it to a whole another level. Instead of creating like 30 too many servers like most games do this one created like 150 too many.

I feel that there are population issues both with servers in general and the growing imbalance of republic and imperial sides. The servers need to be condensed and so does the republic faction.

I would certainly put server merging on the top of the priority list.
