Scepter of ragnos agrees. 40 people on the republic fleet at peak times is less than the amount of players at an auction hall in WoW.
EU Maintenance is Unacceptable. Use the language they understand, CANCEL! Demand they realize Separate can be equal (Separate Maintenance) for EU and NA

There were only 347 total level 50's online (total for both factions.)

With only ~200 or less level 50's in each faction online during "heavy" server loads, spread across Operations and PvP (there were only 32 level 50's on the Republic fleet, and 56 on the Empire fleet, and not all of them are there to LFG for flashpoints) you can see how finding a group for flashpoints might be difficult.

If 2000 players is enough for the server population to say "heavy," I can imagine what standard must be. It might be good for the community to merge servers which never reach more than 2500 total players at peak times. Ideally, I would think you would want 2000 players per faction on each server.

you understand sharding right?

you may see 30 people on tatooine, but thats only in the shard you are in. there can be multiple shards with 60 people, 40 people, 30 people all online on tatooine at the same time.

most of you going off the who list need to understand how ToR shards and instances each zone.

This is false. The search function includes different shards. For example, if there are two shards in Tatooine, then the search list will show a "(1)" and "(2)" after the word "Tatooine".

What would happen with names and legacy names? I know maybe it shouldn't be a big deal, but I am attached to my character names so I often wonder how they would handle it in the cases where different people on different servers have the same name.

What basically happens is the 'Host' server, in which the others are merged, players get to keep their names, & everyone from the other servers have to rename their characters. So, if you have a name you use alot & are fond of, maybe even bought Pre Order to reserve that name, it will be lost.

It is not simply an admittance that your game is not doing very well, it also shows your customers you do not really care about the time & effort your customers have taken with their characters. A complete lack of thought for your customers.

Blizzard have always maintained they will NEVER close down, or merge servers for this very reason.

Server merges are very bad for business, it sends a very negative message to your customers & future customers.

Offering Server Transfers may not be a bad idea, at least then it is down to player choice as to whether he/she is prepared to lose their character names upon moving.

As for Low Population Servers, some players prefer & actively seek them. If they & their friends like to play together but not have to wait an hour for boss respawns, etc. The only people that would actively hate low population servers are pvp players for obvious reasons. Not everyone wants to do Flashpoints, not everyone wants to do Operations.

As for the poster who says those who want Low Pop servers should play a Single-Player Game ... name me one, just one, Single-Player rpg that has as much story as Star Wars: The Old Republic, along with as much replayability AND where they can interact with their Friends & perhaps make new friends AND have that game constantly updated & even Expanded upon ...? I'm waiting

For players who start an mo on day One, it's a very tricky decision you have to make, like playing the horses ... which server is most likely to be popular ... although if they offer Server Transfers this is not so tricky, but if there is fear of server merges ... & if your character name means alot to you, then this can & often is, a make or break decision for some.

So, to sum up, I would not want any server merging, but I do endorse Optional Server Transfers. Everybody wins & nobody loses.

Why do you state that "Population is ruined"? Its not true, its not "ruined".

The first month is over and the quitters are gone, but it still seems to be quite a few people playing. The game is getting 60 000 new players every week, why would there be a need for merges then?

Why the need for thousands of players to find a group? Also, I'm not sure how it is on your server, but on mine it seems like about 90% of our faction isn't 50 yet. So if it's endgame groups you're having trouble with I'd suggest rolling an alt while the majority of the server catches up.

If you are playing on US servers you cant understand our problems on EU server. US players has 25 servers with up 1.7 population index and 17 server between 1.6 and 1.7 population index. EU players has only 11 server with up 1.7 population index and 3 servers between 1.6 and 1.7.

So, that mens many players from US have fun, becase the have 42 servers with good index for playing... EU players have 14 servers for good playing. 13 servers from all 45 EU servers. But its boring if you actually playing on another one server from this "14 top servers". Thats a reality.
