I may be recalling wrong, but I recall being able to use my +50% crit chance stealth only bow ranger ability out of stealth for the first six months or so the game was out on my lurikeen ranger.

Getting all misty eyed wanting to play daoc now lol

An MMO designed around a concept that stunts its own ability to grow will fail every time.

And the first time you were to announce that it would take a decade (or hell, a year) to gain certain abilities, people would throw a fit and quit.
everything you just said is a complete utter waste of space, in this game you have the possibility of doing warzones while you lvl and raise your rank so you can essentially come ding 50 as rank 50, which means you'd not be behind at all, and if people choose to lvl solely through pve that's their loss, you're saying it won't work? im sorry but what the hell do you know about it? have you ever tried playing DAoC? when DAoC introduced the realm rank abilitys alot of people was already rank 8+ and most was rank 1-4 and they caught up and the game lasted and endured longer than any other MMO, so Your "Opinion" such as it is is based SOLELY on your own reflections and not FACTS, DAoC Worked and we have a coupple hundred thousand players who can vouch for THAT System being infinitely better than this, and i dare say had DAoC recieved ANY money whatsoever to do some advertisement back when it was created, WoW would NEVER have wrecked the mmo pvp ...EVER... if you told every single WoW and SWTOR player to play DAoC rvr for just one day, toss em into the fray with full gear and max lvl , the majority would STAY i guarantee you that much the game is still infinitely more solid than anything these failing companys has ever produced
so...should i be the one to link all the pervy comments from the Star Wars movies here in my Signature? or will that be considered inappropriate =P well ... best be playing it on the safe side! =P

Sorry. This isn't a fact.

DAOC is the best PvP implementation of an EQ clone with set factions. It is far from the best PvP game. If someone wants to create a real PvP game I highly recommend they go into the community and look to hire someone from one of the major FFA/Open world PvP guilds to design it.

EQ And DAoC was in development at the same time although EQ was released before, your statement holds no value, EQ Didnt feature pvp , so again your statement holds no value, as for your opinions about "The best pvp game" Tentomhammer and the tons of people who voted would disagree with you and do name a better, besides you played EQ obviously, and asking an EQ player for pvp advice is like asking a blind man for direction, obvious fail players should keep their mouths shut at all times. Don't Bother retaliating to my response im ignoring ya at this point i cba. to deal with loud mouthed EQ nerds/aka blind people asking for directions

I thought they shut down the servers?

I was doing some googling and found there are private servers, not sure if those are legal though.

EQ was actually out for quite some time before DAOC did. You can tell just by the graphics.

EQ1=March, 1999
DAOC=October 10, 2001

  2. Caps on every single stat. Ability to cap all stats through crafted gear or raid gear. Your choice.

  3. Meaningful objectives in a large world zone that people care about. Relics mattered. Access to Darkness Falls mattered. Bonus money/xp earned in the frontier mattered.

And yet somehow, every single MMO since DAoC (including Warhammer) fails to incorporate any of the above three things.

Amazing.

this is so true... Endgame gear b4 ToA WAS NOT HARD TO GET. At end game EVERYONE was able to get a reasonable template. Gear was a non factor... THAT WAS GOOD.

3 factions.... How has NOONE else figured out that 3 factions is really the only way to balance open world pvp? One side overpopulated? No biggy, other 2 factions focus on the strong guy.

People CARED about holding relics... I remember when relic raids were happening every open and guild/alliance chat channel was calling everyone to arms... people WANTED to defend.

characters getting stronger through realm abilities instead of gear... was BRILLIANT. Why games like WoW decided to make gear trump skill I dont know... The BEST most expensive daoc armor templates werent that much better then a generic crafted template.

those are the big things.

next is stuff that likely only held interest to gamers who were used to games not being faceroll easy. (I miss it)

HARD INTERRUPTS... you could not (except for a long CD quickcast) cast with people attacking you... ranged players had to prekite...

classes had ROLES, a stealther was not good in group combat. A healer was NOT meant to solo.

The ability for good players to shine. 20-25 nobs could beat the best 8 players in this game handily... In daoc a skilled group could take on MASSIVE amounts of uncoordinated opponents.

sooo much that I miss.

Getting all that into a game is too much to ask... but the 1st company that launches a pvp game with 3 factions will succeed!

DAoC went into development in 98 , as pointed out they were both on the drawing board at the same time although as previously stated EQ Was released first, anyways, the DAoC servers are still up they merged them all into one huge server called Ygraine , both the US and the European Servers so if you have a char you can just migrate it over to it and play on Ygraine with thousands of others

they should also add alliances, that'd be a nice addition aswell so that multiple guilds can be in an alliance together so that like minded players can team up and still have their respective guild names
