Fact 1: WOW PvP Sucked from day 1 till now.... it was a mass grind fight with no organisation, you qued with random crap players and it featured the same battlegrounds over and over again... IT WASNT FUN IT WASNT CHALLENGING, yet you are copying this?!? The worst parts of WoW is what you decided to copy?. You want to catch peoples eyes? then create something new!? don't copy what was horrible from another game?

Fact 2: DAoC was freaking great and has been deemed by the pvp society online as the best pvp game of ALL Times yet you dont cooporate with your OWN collegaues at Mythic who has infinitely more experience creating MMORPG games? That's silly learn from their mistakes by and learn from the things they created that was awesome.....pvp objective based war areas such as the frontiers, and create PERMANENT battlegrounds for the level brackets to enjoy.

The Warning: DO NOT Get complacent by thinking we're playing this game because it has more to offer than WoW because quite frankly it's the same and WoW is more populated people might aswell return under these circumstances, so dont rest your feet till you're done walking, you have the game you have the technology you have the brains to figure out what the eliteists are saying may hold some truths to it , now ACT accordingly and fix it please =)
Agreed, they should copy WoW's Arena System, then maybe i'd resubscribe.

  2. Caps on every single stat. Ability to cap all stats through crafted gear or raid gear. Your choice.

  3. Meaningful objectives in a large world zone that people care about. Relics mattered. Access to Darkness Falls mattered. Bonus money/xp earned in the frontier mattered.

And yet somehow, every single MMO since DAoC (including Warhammer) fails to incorporate any of the above three things.

Amazing.
YES! This is what we want.

A lot of nostalgia going on here. I remembered it pretty fondly until came back to it after having been out for 6 or so years and I remembered why I left before pretty quickly.

WoW may have had issues but it was at least somewhat close to balanced compared to Dark Age, if you didn't have certain classes you had no reason to go pvping.

For the love of teh gawdz don't copy Dark Age too intently, it did a couple things right but a lot more wrong.

They did alot more right then they did wrong, unil they made it gearbased with ToA

Strangely enough, every gearbased>skillbased game with PvP have failed PvP wise since then..

There were some issues with aoe stuns etc, but with some tactics and teamwork, you could avoid most of it.

Those things had nothing to do with what made DaoC so great.
The "feeling", the awesome community, friendship and cheering for eachother when you met up with your realm friends, people not even in your guild, people you fought side by side with and depended on. Then could talk about the next day and when you met in the battlefield a couple of days later you got a friendly nod of recognition.
When you after hours of work stood as the winning side in a relic fight or that huge battle was so much joy.

Those things made it so epic.

Aswell as:

3 sides
Relics
Keep sieging
Quite large zones (i liked old frontiers much better then new, the narrow valleys actually made people fight eachother instead of avoiding eachother)

sweet jebus hadnt checked on this post in a few days just to see it having exploded haha =P , but good to see people are with me on this, but the devs are still oddly absent and still wont respond to any suggestions being made on the pvp boards - because surely the players dont know what they want more than the Devs who obviously knows exactly what we want .....one word....Illum
so...should i be the one to link all the pervy comments from the Star Wars movies here in my Signature? or will that be considered inappropriate =P well ... best be playing it on the safe side! =P

the worst part about all of this failing pvp is i REALLY hope Blizzards Sues BioWare and forces them to change it haha that'd be the first time i'd say Blizzard woulda created something that influenced the gaming world in a positive way but seriously is it not a massive failure that everyone who's actually played DAoC through times are considering reactivating their accounts from a game that is 11 years old? and STILL they don't see nor act on it?

People get serious rose colored glasses when talking about DAOC.

I remember the RVR/PVP being tremendously flawed, with a lot of faction on faction funnyness (ie, similar to what's been going on with Illum).

Though, I'll be honest....I miss DAOC mostly because it felt very unique, interesting and magical. The atmosphere of the game made it interesting, not the RVR itself. It was just a different game, a kind of game that would fail today with the ilum aoe kill traders, base traders, exploiters, lazy scrubs who will do anything to avoid playing the game.
50 Commando - Atreus - Hyperspace Cannon (PVE West Coast)
Because there's more to PVP than open world PVP.

the only flawed element was when EA started " making the game better".... isnt it funny that everytime EA gets themselves involved they make matters worse? and never better?....as for "bad" times in DAoC prior to EA's involvement there was none.

Making the pvp ranks unlock new abilities constantly betters your character and makes people want to play more. For instance, all the Battlemasters have absolutly no reason to pvp since they are not bettering their character at all.

I don't care what genre MMO it is....once a decent MMO comes out with an ability based system, they will earn my subscription money for years and years. I played DAOC for 8 years before getting bored, and since I'm approaching Battlemaster in this game I'm seriously contemplating un-subbing until something new PVP wise comes out. In order to get almost all of the Realm Abilities in DAOC I needed to play for almost a decade.
This won't work. 2 months in, new players will start to complain that they can't compete in pvp because the people who have been around longer have more/bigger/better abilities and they can't catch up. New players will get frustrated and quit, and the pvp playerbase will never grow.

An MMO designed around a concept that stunts its own ability to grow will fail every time.

And the first time you were to announce that it would take a decade (or hell, a year) to gain certain abilities, people would throw a fit and quit.
Don't act like you didn't see this coming.
