Even better, let us syphon off a % of xp into something like the Alternate Advancement system in EQ - would make a LOT of level 50s and levelling players happy.
It does if the feature is claimed to be in 'most' mainstream MMO's.
THAT was what I took issue with; while I can't offer a definative answer, it would be my guess that more MMOs lack this option than offer it.

Although I don't know many mainstream MMO's that offer this (many would imply more than 50%, and currently, I see that WoW finally added this feature in when enough of the twinks complained about it), I don't see why this is a problem in this game based on what you're stating.

You want to see all of the quests and content. Guess what? You can do that even if the quests are grey to you. It's not like most other MMO's that I've played, that once you outlevel an area, you can't see the quest givers. In this game, you can visit a planet that is 30 levels below you, and still see all the quest givers. If you're not concerned with XP and getting to 50, you can still do it, without gain, so what's stopping you?

Edit : Anyone else get the funny feeling the OP, and those supporting him, want to turn off XP at 49, and twink out?

a) Play a Sentinel. Then you don't have to worry about out-lvling your content. You practically need to.

b) More seriously, instead of turning off XP (which is a weird idea to me) they should really just allow you to have Instances tuned to your level. Yes, you will still have to deal with a planet that has lots of greys, but at least you would have a challenge in your class missions as well as some quests.

I underlined the incorrect statement in your post. It was actually twink concerns for battlegrounds that held up the feature so long.

I'm avoiding dailies, avoiding doing flashpoints more than once, avoiding doing any kind of space combat and PvP at all because I can't afford to level any quicker than I already am. How is that not missing out on content? I would like to be able to enjoy space missions and PvP. I can't because I am already 6 levels ahead of my mission content. I'm trying not to create an even bigger gap than already exists.

Or, since they can buffer you to a level for PvP, maybe they should allow an option for you to gimp your stats to a level appropriate to your quest.

I edited the original post, replacing the word "most" with "many". I don't consider many MMOs to be mainstream (or were in their day). Of the ones I do, most of them offer this option. There have been, what, 6 or more listed in this thread so far.

You're going to have to find something new to nitpick now, I guess.

So how do you feel about the Alternate Advancement system from EQ? I used to channel around 80-90% of my xp into it in zones I liked so I could stay a while, make progress on content, and be advancing my character at the same time.

I wouldn't mind that either, although I suspect many people who are opposing the idea of an XP toggle would prefer seeing potential gains vanish into the void before allowing them to actually be funneled somewhere more productive. Suddenly we're turning it into an option some players can freely ignore to one they'll feel obligated to participate in, which isn't my intention.

There is more then just WOW out there

I agree fully OP

In beta I skipped 60% of the post tatooine content (other then storyline of course). 90% of the heroics and 95% of the flashpoints, 100% of the PVP and 100% of Space just so I could stay at the high end of each planet when I landed there.

Like you I have 0 desire for grey easy mode content

I suggested a XP toggle in beta but the WOWsters all attacked like they doing here with how you need fast sloppy leveling with little to no difficulty.

Yoiur not a minority tho, it was a pretty big comment by players (leveling to fast in beta) but for what ever reason its fallen on deft ears with Bioware.

Ive given up on core game being challenging now and if I resub after 6 months will be based 100% on update and expansion challenge level.

There is a misguided thinking pattern that to be successful you need to cater to the fast and sloppy WOW player (whose not really a MMORPG fan to begin with).

Fast and sloppy might get you 2 million purchases and 1 million subs for a year.
SMART design (still soloable but challenging and with a dfeeling of accomplishment and acheivement from leveling and the ability to enjoy all the content in the range it was designed to be enjoyed at) will keep the 1 million for 5 years.

Id rather have 1 million sub paying players for 5 years then have 12 months success and be forced to go F2P after that (as big budget big market MMORPGs who utilize the fast and sloppy leveling curve have been forced to do).

Eventually someone will get it right butr im with you. A XP Toggle hurts no one and helps a silent MAJORITY who just want to enjoy all the game with out entering mind numbing (more then current) Easy mode of fighting greys or skipping content.

I didnt pay to skip content.
I paid because I want to experience the content.
In regards to lessening F2P and Preferred restrictions
In GAMING, as in LIFE,
You get what you pay for
No game restriction is so dire that $15.00/month will not eliminate it

By the way, anyone who doesn't "get" or understand the request has either not read the first post in this thread in its entirety, or failed to comprehend it. Because everything was covered in detail there. If you don't get it and are seriously looking for answers, it makes more sense to just try reading it again rather than waiting someone to re-explain a problem that was already fleshed out clearly once.

And if the problem I'm describing isn't one you're having, then great for you and move on? Optional toggles don't impact you in any way.
