I also am trying to avoid alt tabbing, and voicing in general, this is my point lol.
Wont happen. You can put SW:TOR into Windowed Mode and drag it to the left(or right) side of your screen(if you run Windows 7 drag it far enough and it will auto-size it)steam to the other side and chat that way, but when you talk via steam you wont be able to do anything in SW:TOR(as expected) but you wont get the splash screen.

I'd be willing to bet this will never happen. EA has Origin, and its in their best interests to make sure Steam doesn't work with it so you have to use their service.
Seeing as me using SWTOR in Steam doesn't really do anything to alter their interests, why should it matter? My preference of interface doesn't matter, unless they start charging for the use of Origin, this is invalid.

In the end: No, game doesn't work through Steam. Never will. Origin is EA's version of Steam. You either deal with that, throw some water on your computer or /wrists. Honestly, I could care less, but the fact will still remain: Not Steam compatible.

The duct tape adds too much weight, duh.

That might be some sort of solution.

Then I guess we'll have to leave it to hackers to work on a way to force input it into the game then :\.

If that's the case could someone please explain how I can get it to work in Steam? If not then can this game get some recoding to work on Steam? This is one of the biggest turnoffs for me really when I play is that I can't chat all my friends and have to alt tab back into the game to a loading screen that REALLY shouldn't even be coming up since I am already LOADED.
here, just for you

ok well my last thread about steam got promptly shut down and directed here. I see alot of talk, suggestions, ramblings, and what have you but would somebody just answer me ONE question then...

Is there a way to get steam overlay to work with SWTOR. (without hacking my game)

(ok 1 1/2 questions) if not, then can we ever expect this to come officially?

I don't need to do that i can alt tab in full screen no issues.

I wouldn't expect anything official or changed, STEAM is a competitor. Welcome to capitalism.

On the second part of that question: Not likely to be officially supported, ever.
