it may not show directly, it may not be evidently apparent, but it is inevitable that it has an effect.

imagine what kind of person i was while i was pvping in wow battlegrounds 6 hours nonstop for over 1.5 years, every day.

Very much agreed. The two games I've played quite a bit of were LOTRO and FFXI. Both games did not have a major focus on PVP at all. Both communities were quite friendly and helpful and lacking in that quick-to-fight mentality.

LOTRO especially contains probably one of the most incredibly friendly and helpful communities I've ever been a part of. I know there are plenty of other factors, but I've always maintained that the lack of a PVP focus was partly the reason for such friendly people.

Kudos to you for acknowledging that fact with regard to the effect of PVP on players' attitudes and demeanor. I definitely agree.

Cheers!

Yeah, and I can't even imagine how much EASIER it would be for the developers if PvP and PvE were separated like this. Why did they make it so much harder on themselves by aping WoW's system? I mean, I get it...copy much of WoW and you may have a successful game, but for goodness sake, innovate and tweak those mechanics that aren't working. It's baffling.

I'm going to have to agree that BW should listen to this advice:

Don't let PvP effect PvE.

This has been a gigantic problem in all MMOs that have both PvP and PvE. You should balance them completely separately and change the way the stats and abilities work when applied to NPCs vs. PCs.

Seems we are growing though.. Bioware themselves said almost half the playerbase signed up for warzones the first few weeks of the game...

Not as much a minority as we were once thought to be.

edit: and UO was the greatest game ever

theres also the fact that while balancing around PvP all classes end up really the same to account for balance, which is boring. it happend in WoW. at first each class had its own special flavor it could bring. but now they all have snares, stuns, and all pretty much play the same all in the name of balancing around PvP. it sucks and one of the many reasons i quit playing WoW

I'm entirely immune to it.

The trick is to not really care if you lose. Though, I'll admit, that is tricky.

Which is one of the many reasons that when I PvP I prefer open world PvP to battlegrounds and warzones or whatever. Less wasted time involved if you lose, more fun if you win (even if there aren't as many direct rewards), and it acts more as a way to break up questing than as a constant thing.

I mean, there's also the fact that it's just a lot less regimented and free form, and therefore more fun to me in general, though.
Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good kick to the balls, kid.

Don't count me as part of "we". I do my fair share of PvP, but only because there is an element of tedium with questing (after 30 especially) and I need the daily XP.

Can I PvP well? Yes, I can and have. In fact, if the game actually had a REASON to PvP, I might find myself engaging in more. Otherwise, the cesspool of the PvP forum is evidence enough of where the whole mess stands right now.

This is a result of copying another game because 5 years ago it worked--before players were exposed to alternate and more meaningful ways of doing things (crafting, PvP, RP elements, &ct.)

Why bother having separate PvP and PvE servers?

Solution:

If you want to PvP join a PvP server where the classes will continually be ****ed with.

If you want to PvE join a PvE server and play the game where the classes are not continually ****ed with.

Actually, as a regular going forum member, the moderation on there is non-existent compared to these forums. Unless a post has profanity or enough people flag it, they all stay. I've seen more threads locked/deleted in a DAY on these forums then I did in the past 6 months on the WoW ones. No, I am not kidding.

However, this shows they are actually reading the forums and taking player feedback into consideration. The WoW forums have no moderation because no Blizzard Devs read them anymore outside of once every 2-3 weeks to make it look like they give a crap.
Meanwhile, in Tera general chat -

"The sad thing is, arguing with fanbois on the forums was more entertaining than their 300 million dollar single player MMO from 2008"
