It was blantly exploiting the system to farm valor.
Blame BioWare for overlooking this. Not the Empire.

What do you want Bioware to do? Force people to stop playing empire?

The problem right now with ilum is the major factional imbalance that BioWare has no control over.

the one constant in PvP , any PvP , is that the losing side will cry . If the Imps were being farmed like that they would cry just as loud and the republics would be , pointing and saying QQ me a river.

No, there are several things they could do though.

First, implement a better defense at the enemy base. Increase gun damage, make them invulnerable. Make it instant death. Or put a protective shield around the base that only one faction can enter, when not in combat. This prevents enemy players from entering the base, while at the same time preventing players from exiting the base, shooting up players then running back in without any repercussions. Place the gun turrets near the entrance to the base as well so players can't just stand outside the base and wait for players to come out and kill them.

Second, make diminishing returns on valor in PvP.

Finally, lower the count of kills required for the quest while at the same time changing it to where you can get the quest done through other means. IE, have guards that patrol around the zone you can kill for no valor but get the quest rewards done. They did this in WoW in Wintergrasp.

So many bad analogies, and so many fallascious arguments. As debates go-- this one is amusing. Couple questions:

1. What is the claim?
2. What is the evidence?

Prompting thoughts:
Without getting to meta-ethical-- can we define the qualifiers of good, bad, right, and wrong in the context of this discussion?

My simple observation, without getting emotional about the morality of "fair":
Game designers made a couple of critical mistakes. These mistakes were capitalized on by some. Conversely, these mistakes caused an undesirable set of circumstances for others. The creators of the circumstances that led to this event(s) are attempting to mitigate their mistakes by "possibly" removing some of the benefits that were capitalized on.

This is simply the framework of the facts.

Now the real fun begins. Morality -

1. Did the capitalizing individuals act immorally or amorally?
2. How do we define the cultural values of a PVP server in an MMO to determine this, and - most imortantly - do we agree? If we can't agree-- there is no merit to continue the argument, because then we are arguing about something else.

Discuss!

Hav you even been to ilum lately? Oh wait no cuz you havent gotten to 50. They already implemented invulerable turrets, enemy players insta die when they get close the enemies base. The republic players contribute to their camping in their base. They sit there and play along with the imps that are at their door. If they dont want to be camped then fly out to the other 2 points and fight there.

As for this quest change to make the kill count smaller.. ook i can see that but this "kill the guard which is an npc"? no thanks. This will lead to a PvE farm of the guards and no real pvp would go on just like it was before. As for valor diminishing returns, this exists as well already.

As soon as the first server started doing this they needed to port everyone off of Ilum, close the planet, and patch it ASAP. Letting players continue all day and letting it go for days without saying something is unfair to people that were just playing the game the way Bioware let them. I am Rep, I did not get to farm, I have noticed the influx of BM and War Hero Imps, but I still think it is too late to punish. Bioware made it possible. They didn't say anything other than "we suggest you not go". Let the imps have their gear now. We'll catch up soon enough. If you want to help those of us that missed out, then increase the valor rewards in WZs so we it is comparable to the zerg surfing in Ilum.

I am going to dismiss you now, because you automatically assume I do not have a level 50.

I will however say this:

I have a level 50 Warrior Juggernaut and a level 48 Assassin. My Juggernaut is in full Champion gear (Save for the belt).

I haven't been to Illum since Wednesday, as I have been leveling my Assassin from 38 to 50. I will be 49 by the end of tonight.

Drop me a line right now, My Assassin's name is Torquemoda on the server Mandalorian the Whatever. I will swap over to my Juggernaut too and fly out to Korriban or Hutta and show you his gear and PvP rank.

being unable down the argument logically like this is the reason why derpy threads like this continue on as they have. Sadly discussions won't follow this model.
