this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TL0kDP_Cexo (thats a 3 minute clip, imagine what it feels like after multiple hours)

No matter how you spin it, everyone should have known this is not intended. Unfortunately GREED>better judgement. Greed for faster valor gains that is.

You can defend and spin it anyway you want, that is griefing. The poor Republic players can't even get away or leave ilum but are degraded to nothing more then NPCs. This is not PvP.

On top of that I'm quite sure that this incident didn't really contribute to the already horrific faction population imbalance. The game as is from a republic point of view is a constant uphill battle, and honestly, it's getting frustrating.

Don't play on a PvP server or engage in PvP then. Problem solved.

Fact is, you were out numbered. The same could be done on any other world. Blame no one but your own factions.

The final WoW server I played on had 60% Alliance, 40% Horde. You wouldn't believe it though with Wintergrasp, Alliance with x10 tenacity constantly. Who's fault is it that one faction is more appealing to the kiddies?

Same thing applies here. You don't have to engage in Illum if you do not want to. You do, be prepared to be out numbered if your own faction doesn't help.

First moment I stepped foot on the PvP quest area of Illum (after I finished my other dailies and was killed 4 times), I got stomped by a OPS group. They even had ANOTHER OPS group standing near the spawn point in the north. What did I do? I said "Hey, is there an Empire ops group going?" Got invited. They came, killed the OPS group that was sitting at my spawn point in the and we went on. Did I come here to complain? No. I was standing on that hill for 10 minutes (Yes 10 minutes, not 4 hours) waiting for a defense to come help.

Your faction chooses not to come to Illum, blame the company for the changes they made, not the opposing team.

Seems your and my definition of PvP seems to differ a lot.I'm not even talking about fair PvP, just an actual Player vs Player exchange. At what point exactly in that loop are Republic players participating in PvP? By clicking respawn as fast as they can?

Enter warzone, AFK out. Get to fleet, form a level 50 counter raid. Fly back to Illum, stomp the Empire.

Not that difficult, is it?

First WoW server I played on, Alliance out numbered Horde. I played Alliance. I got corpse camped a lot. Did I blame the Horde? No. Was I mad? Yes, I was furious. I was furious at the Alliance who wouldn't come defend people. When I got to 60 (and later 70 and 80) on Alliance, any time someone said "Horde attacking" I went and defended.

When I switched factions to Horde (my best friend was Horde on another server), and leveled a toon from 1-80 on a PvP server there, I did the same thing. In fact, I became so reliable people I never met would message me "Hey I am being camped" and I went and helped. Again, Alliance outnumbered Horde, but the Alliance ran away from a fight.

You want to blame the opposing team, but the opposing team is just doing what they feel the game is designed to do. If your team doesn't want to come help, should you say "Excuse me, mr Sith Warrior, can you please stop stabbing me with the lightsaber? I need less of you so we can make it more balanced 1 v1." Do it in a Mort Goldman voice too.

lol... republic had no chance on my server. Even if they brought ALL of their 50s they wouldn't have stood a chance.

I'm sorry that you thought it would be OK to channel AoE on their med center for 6 hours straight, but everyone with half a brain realized it wasn't working as intended.

So the people who did this in excess are getting punished, what is the big deal?

I was battlemaster before 1.1, I PVP plenty. What took place on Ilum that day was not PVP, it was stupid. I got my daily done and didn't return until after the patch. Now we have actual battles with repubs, sure they get stomped and run home crying every time, but at least it's an actual fight.

Yes, valid strategy. Now show me 1 server where there is actually enough Republik to pull that off with the current Emp-Rep ratios (and don't feed me any bull*** about Imperials being more organized or such, people are the same across both factions). Not even factoring in that Ilum at that point had an inflated Imperial presence due to massiv Valor gains through this exploit.

Honestly I've read the first 12 pages of this thread and you keep spinning in circles not accapeting any argument given. This situation was and is very harmful to the game. No amount of ignorance or twisting of words/ignoring arguments is going to change that.

Is it the Empire's fault that BioWare overlooked such an obviously flawed mechanic error? When my OPS group at 1 am got to their base, I saw the cannon and the first thing I thought "That can be targeted. Can it be destroyed?"

Fact is, when they make such a huge flaw, it isn't the player's fault for taking it and thinking it's okay.

I am not denying it was very harmful. Also your initial request is impossible, I do not know of anything that shows sever/faction balances.

The solution they sought, punishing the players for THEIR mistakes, is what is the most harmful thing.

Finally, in WoW, I use to take out entire raids by myself in Alteric Valley. Back when (Probably still is) AV was a "Speed run" to the other side, I'd wait patiently. Patiently. Patiently. In Drek's room. When Alliance came in, I death gripped them in pre-maturely and watched them die. I would target the tanks first, and on multiple occasions, when the tank went in, others would too. Then I'd attack and focus on the tank, and if the tank went down, the boss would run around killing others.

Form a small group of 5-6 invisibles. Shadows and Scoundrels. Go to the base, locate the tank who is engaging the gun. Run up to the tank and butcher it. Watch that gun cannon go and start tearing other players apart. Without the tanks to taunt it, they'd get slaughtered.

^noone is being punished. The video shows one thing only:failure of devs that made Illum.

Its amusing to watch how exploiters every time try to play it down and blame it on the flaws of game design.

You reap what you saw. Everyone with a bit of common sense can realize when he encounters unintended mechanic and tell "stop" to himself. You couldn't. Too bad - you are the only one to blame.
