This game badly needs mods and macros.

I'm not one of those people who think macros make the game easier. In fact, I think knowing when to use macros, and where they can really be effective, is most often a sign of a good player.

Can they be used to create spammable all-in-one buttons? Sure, they usually can, but when the are (except in the case of poor implementations like the one in Rift), they're not nearly as effective as playing without them, or as effective as playing with macros appropriately.

Considering how many abilities we have in this game, I'd really welcome them. I mean, sure, there may be some additional difficulty added by requiring, for example, that someone click on both relics and a combat boost at the beginning of a fight, but that doesn't test anything about the player's skill, really, just how good he is at hitting three different keys. It's more a test of how good the player is with the UI than how good he is with his class, or anything else important.

I think as long as a priority-based, Rift-like macro system is avoided, it'd be a great improvement to the game. I know some will think it just makes the game easier, but I don't believe it does. In most cases, it just makes dealing with the UI easier, and that's not really the same thing.

This. ^

And also, to add something constructive, I would like to reiterate my desire to have the ability to make simple targeting macros so that when I attempt to heal you in a flashpoint you don't...die.

That's all most of us want!! Is to be able to make some simple, noobish macros that make us less clunky and noobish. And really, it's not about being a bad. It's a common sense thing that should have been implemented in the interface in the first place. If I cannot target the BAD GUY while still keeping my party from not becoming DEAD, then I am already at a disadvantage. But having to SWITCH back and forth between my heal targets and the BOSS is ridiculous. Call me a lazy, spoiled Wrath-baby, but I HATE the extra step of having to select my heal target.

Please Bioware, let me make some mouse over macros. I already love the game to pieces...this would just make me squee with delight.

The game doesn't need mods or macros, it just needs a more refined UI. Being able to bind a key to "mouse over +" or move the UI (coming soon) is more than enough. At the end of the day, though, most cosmetic choices are just that. Cosmetic. Not every game must be moddable to the point of being unrecognizable.

How is thoughtful discussion a bad thing? I have learned a great deal about macros just from reading this thread. I'll be honest, macros befuddle me for the most part and most I can manage with them is the really simple ones. But I think they can be a really useful tool.

I think it's the people who have no bleeding idea what they do or how they work that are against them. It's like they are afraid macros will give people an unfair advantage.

I was against using them in wow for a long time....for the very same reason. Then I decided to try and educate myself. Had myself a few eureka! moments and from that point on my game play was just a bit more enjoyable.

in your opinion. (see bolded red text)

But why should you get to decide what is 'enough'? You cannot sit there and say that WoW or RIFT was ruined by having a panel to create custom macros.

This thread is being watched by the devs, I am sure. MANY players want customization choices. Those that DO want these choices should be able to have them. Those that DON'T want to utilize those choices are certainly free NOT to. How does my choice to customize my UI and make macros in ANY WAY affect YOUR gameplay?

I ask this with respect and all seriousness. (I feel like I have to qualify my comments because everyone is quick to call anyone and everyone a troll >.<)

Hit the nail right on the head!

I don't understand why people are so worried about how I want my interface to look! I don't care about yours, why care about mine? I did t know insecurity could be lived through a videogame.

Mods that change the interface, recolor, size, shape, position, add bars and skins etc i reckon are great. Macros are very handy too and I am all for them. Things like DPS meters, Gearscore and all those others that made WoW the blight on humanity that it is today should be left out as all they do is devide the community. Don't give me that min max or self analyzing crap either as that is BS. Healers could use some mod love too. All just my opinion of course.
