No, You May Not Roll on Items for Another Class and Strip Out the Mods

...if anyone in that class is with your group.

I can't believe I'm posting about item rolls, or about this issue. People worry too much about loot, and I'm a big believer in just enjoying the game.
But poor claims hurt group dynamics, and there's no need for this kind of thing.

Today, a Sith Marauder rolled Need to get this
Cademimu Sharpshooter's Jacket
+34 Endurance
+38 Cunning
+18 Critical Rating

when I pointed out it was made for an Agent, like me, he said he intended to strip out the mods and trade them.

When I noted that the mods are Bound, he insisted that since he could wear it, he could roll. More surprising was that when he brought the issue to /General, a few voices agreed.

Most did not, but the others need to know that sort of claim i's a party-breaker. This is clearly an Agent item - a huge upgrade in my case - and my next group will get a little less healing as a result.

One of the pleasures of running Flashpoints is the chance to get gear suited to you. If it's better suited to someone else, leave it for them.

I'm certainly hoping the posts here aren't representative. I'm... amazed that people will behave this way - likely the same ones who complain about waiting to get a group.


People are asking for a healer for Cademimu now, and I'm not as ready as I was to join. My 1-in-8-ish chance of getting that piece, the most perfect drop for me on the run, has now dropped that much further.

And if I do go, my heals will do that much less.


But at least the Marauder will look cool.

If i need gear for my companion, I will roll need. Period. A companion is apart of you, it is your right hand guy and is of vast importance, especially to those that solo quest like myself. My tank is my life, if he can't tank due to crappy armor, then I fail in my quest. So yes, if I need it, then i will roll for it...

And you cannot seem to understand that I'm offering NO opinion on the morality of need rolling oranges for appearance. I have not once in this thread stated a moral judgement on the issue one way or another.

I am simply explaining why the argument "because I can" is not the thread-ender it was intended to be, and is in fact a completely meaningless addition to a thread whose essential purpose is to discuss the morality of an act within the social structure of this game.

Not only is it meaningless here, but in fact "because I can" is an invalid argument for almost ALL moral discussions. Almost all actions of moral interest CAN be performed by a human obeying the laws of physics; those that can't don't tend to present much of a moral dilemma at all, given that morality is about human CHOICE, not imaginary circumstances that could never exist.

(As an aside, you also seem to have no understanding of "authority", where it comes from, and who ultimately grants it... I weep for the civic future of whichever country you come from).

Ninja looting is you killing the two elites guarding a chest and some d-bag swoops in and grabs it while you are finishing off the second elite.

There would be more traction on this from Bioware, I suspect, if people would stop bashing each other and suggest solutions beside "I play how I want" and "unsub" and "join a guild".
