SWTOR is less than a month old, wow is 7 years old. Why do people compare?

Because SWTOR will lose subs to 2012 WOW not 2004 WOW. Your average MMO player when trying to decide between the two isn't going to care that one is new and one is older. They will look at which game has more enticing features and play that one.

Here's a great analogy that I'm personally affected by. Smartphones!

iPhone came out in 07. It's headed into it's 5th highly successful year. It's had all of those years to amass apps, improvements and the whole lot.

Now, late 2010 comes along and MS enters the market with Windows Phone 7 (which is NOT Windows Mobile, btw). The phone was amazing from day one, IMO. People that complained, however, had the same complaints: Why doesn't it have features that the other phone has had for YEARS? Your answer? It's not THAT phone. It's made by a different company. It will gain more features faster than the other phone though. A year in and my phone can do virtually anything the iPhone or Android phone can do and in some cases, more. I'm a shameless fanboy anyway.

My point is to lay off BW and let them refine their game. Level to 50 on more than one toon. WoW had 1 1/2 end game for MONTHS (half being Onyxia since it's just one boss).

Ok, I'm done reading these posts. I'm going to level my inquisitor.
Half way between the gutter and the stars

Wow might be 7 years old but it still boring as he'll now.
No matter what they do for wow I just won't go back as I have got all I can from it.

Swtor s fresh, new, different and fun. Am not saying wow wasn't fun, cause it was and has been part f my life for the last 7 years on and off, but to constantly say it's better than swtor is pathetic.

Swtor will grow and grow hopefully, and am looking forward to have a few years growing with it.

Any MMO needs to go to school on the MMO's the come before it. They are competing with WoW as it is now, not 2004 WoW.

If I had been in charge of SWTOR, I would have gone to some of the most sucessful guilds (both raiding and PvP) in WoW, leveled them to 50 with my magic wand, and let them loose on the end game content. For their time, I would have given them all free subscriptions for 6 months. If that would have happened, we wouldn't be talking about how the end game sucks, the characters have such bad responsiveness, or there is nothing to do at level 50.

Instead, we would be talking about how well tuned the PvP and the raiding experience are. We would also be drooling over the fact that at 50, the game is just a engrossing as it was at level 1.

But they didn't and here we are. I REALLY want SWTOR to succeed, but they should have gone to school on what WoW did well (which is a lot... you don't become as successful as WoW via pity subscriptions). You can't succeed in any industry if you don't know what your competitors are doing and improve upon it. That means having everything (or near everything) your competition has and adding to it. You can't fail at something that has already been done (such as highly responsive character control and a smooth raiding experience), but substitute something else for it and claim its OK (such as having 100% voice acting).

For most people, WoW is all they ever knew.
Ngamok 65 Vanguard / Cygamok 65 Gunslinger / Linovahle 65 Sentinel / Gamok 65 Commando / Ngamokus 65 Operative / Janylyn 65 Shadow / Jan'mar 65 Sith Inquisitor - The Harbinger

This is the one thing that blizzard did that people forget. They took the best guilds from EQ and all but gave them jobs at blizzard (Some people they did).

Tigole would go on to replace him as guild leader and was eventually offered a position as designer alongside Rob.
Who did Bioware hire with extensive leveling/raiding/end game experience in the MMO of the time?

A bunch of story tellers.

I suspect the average MMO player will look at which one they already played and are bored with and which one they haven't played and choose accordingly.

May be because if you removed voice overs and lightsabers we would be playing WoW?

If I want's to buy a new car that claims to be "next gen", then I don't expect it to be like a Ford T, only outfitted with a high tech ashtray. I expect everything to be better than previous cars.
