This game badly needs mods and macros.

I can't take a game seriously if it doesn't have a rich addon API. One without macros period is a complete joke. I'm enjoying playing the game right now (only bought it a week ago), but unless things change drastically this is just a vacation from "real games".

These kinds of macros are often technically illegal. In a game like this where there isn't an addon API or even a slash-command macro ability I'd guess they are highly illegal. I haven't looked into it though, so maybe they don't care. I have all sorts of devices with macro abilities, including the naga, but I never use them to do anything but issue a single keypress simply because, at least in WoW, it is officially illegal to do so.

That is why macros and addons are valuable tools.

So let me see if I got this right.

Ui customizations coming - Cool
I can macro with my naga - Cool
Combat log coming to measure my own dps - Cool

Now I just need a threat meter for myself and I'm set and I'm sure something will be coming eventually. Anything I wanted to do with addons is being done anyway. I would love LFD but I guess queuing up for wz's is just as good.

Just as I said many times already. Crying isn't going to stop people from doing what they want as we will just find ways around it. Wtb ..... threat meter and mouseover macros (just throwing this one out there since I know healers love it, it matters not to me but they really should add it) .... stat.

considering that they endorse these mice/keyboards, I'd say that these macros are probably fine.

Yeah, I prefer the rule of thumb for macros: One player action (button press) results in one game action. It's only a rule of thumb because there are exceptions, such as instant, non-GCD abilities that modify other abilities. (ie Nature's Swiftness in WoW)

Macros should just change which single action a given hotkey performs given circumstances like combat status, target, etc. I love Blizzard's macro system. It's heavily restricted to limit abuse yet still quite powerful and flexible.

I would just like to add even though I support a macro system I truly do believe it should be very restricted. Macro systems like the one used by rift just had fail written on it from the beginning. I think Blizzard had a pretty good compromise on what could be done.

Honestly, I think Rift misuses the term "macro". Those aren't macros.

The clear and unambiguous meaning of Blizzard's answer to that question is that they don't particularly like what some addons are doing but they decided not to break them.
^^This^^

Blizzard went down a certain path and are now forced to live with it.

It's gotten so bad they are considering completely removing Threat as a mechanic from the game because with Meters it's completely uninteresting.

It's a far more fun and interactive experience if Tanks can lose Threat because they aren't sure where they are at, but they then have the tools to get it back. It's also more fun if DPS/Heals can pull Threat but have the tools to drop threat and/or survive, and also when Combat hasn't been tuned to a level where any non-Tank is one-shot by a Boss.

Omen/DBM/Recount led to some horribly boring "rinse and repeat" gameplay in WoW, not the opposite. Tanks never lose Threat. DPS have to amuse themselves by competing with each other because the fights become so routine. People don't have to pay attention because an Addon tells them what to do and when to do it.

Forgive me for not wanting that here - I like to have fun and I like fights to be interesting, not repetitive

WoW issued a WoW mouse with a bunch of buttons with macro ability. They still say "one button one keypress".

All you need to know is that I'm fine without macros and really don't want the combat to be dumbed down anymore. I think having a high skill cap is a good thing, and considering a lot of people want damage/healing meters for competition, you'd think they would too.
It's good that you are fine without macros. However, you expect others to be fine without macros as well, which is the point of contention. Clearly, you've capped out your toons list with every possible AC with each permutation of tree selections - all at 50.

So yeah, screenshots.
Attempting to change one's reason with logic is ineffective when said reason had been formed without.
