In fact, it seems to me than in Episode III, Anakin had no problem igniting Dooku's saber and then using it to decapitate him.

I have to echo everything the original poster said. Customization has been my biggest gripe so far with my experience, especially those options that are faction-restricted. If you're going to give us a game where we're supposed to live out our Star Wars fantasies, I'd expect waaaaay more options. There were so many unique Jedi throughout history, it just makes no sense to limit an option so seemingly simple as color. This is an opportunity overwhelm us with custom traits-- in a good way. Though they may seem arbitrary, these are the things that set our characters apart from each other. Purple is a must in addition to more color options. When we all start to look alike, it gets dull.

As a neutral-light Jedi, I REALLY want a purple lightsaber. Please allow us to obtain this easier.

You echoed a phrase that the PR at BW spouted all during development - the idea that I'll be able to "live my Star Wars fantasy." Well, so far it's been nice to play the Miraluka Jedi I had in mind, I'm getting sent on missions by the council just as I imagined, and every time I light up my saber and it's blue, it just kills it. "Oh that's right, I'm playing something pretty close to my Star Wars fantasy."

I just added a very simple breakdown of Lightsaber construction, color meaning, and crystals on the "lore" forum. Check it out here:

http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=211028

EDIT: I agree, I think the the lore of the lightsaber and how it works needs to be re-addressed. It really removes the suspension of disbelief when trying to RP. Especially when a Jedi Consular runs by with a red saber.

GreaT idea it would be cool if they started you with primary colors blue yellow and red when you hit 400 you get a combiner to fuse the primary colors to get A new color crystal that you have to use as a mat to make a modification crystal

Actually, while there have been exceptions in the SW universe, generally there IS a point to the colors (and if you're unaware of this it's a dead giveaway that you never played KOTOR as there's a whole part in there about the colors for Jedi and what they mean). Jedi typically used Blue, Green or Yellow with some exceptions and with certain more unique colors being used by certain Jedi. Blue was generally considered the color for Jedi Guardians, green for Jedi Consulars and yellow for Jedi Sentinels. The Sith, on the other hand, began using lightsabers only to mock the Jedi by defeating them with their own weapons. While Jedi used natural crystals for their lightsabers, the Sith used artificial crystals because the lightsaber was more utilitarian to them and the artificial crystals resulted in a red color. Again, while there were exceptions, most Jedi would not use a red lightsaber as that was considered the color used by the Sith and by dark side Jedi.

That being said, they need to find a way to introduce more LS/DS restriction-free crystals into the game but you can't really say there's no point to the color restrictions in the SW universe.

Their is no "super rare" in an MMO. Go to Illum and Black/Red, Purple is 95% of the saber colors on the IMP side. I am fine with Red being Darkside only, and Blue/Green Light side only. The rest should be available to anyone I agree.

The bigger problem is they don't have end game color crystals. If you sith at end game you will use purple or "Black/Red"(no clue where this garbage came from)
