It can't be an RP thing. RP is more than just IC-fascists demanding everyone walk everywhere in non-combat zones unless they can conjure up an in-character reason to be in a hurry. RP creates more situations for communication between factions. RP players prefer less restrictions, not more. As far as RP is concerned, communication between factions should be based on whether a character would have reason and capacity to contact a member of another faction, while direct player-to-player trades on Nar Shaddaa or other neutral ground would be unrestricted.

It's an economy thing because restriction in movement of goods makes them harder to come by. Non-BoP items that can only be obtained by one faction have more value to the other. If there is a demand for an item of that nature, it creates a market for it on the Hutt Cartel Exchange and makes places like the Nar Shaddaa promenade a centre of cross-faction trade, turning those types of locations into the kinds of cross-faction hubs they were meant to be. The alternative is that players choose to use their alts to get equipment, reducing trade and player interaction and lowering the cartel exchange's potential to grow beyond its current bone-dry state.
Fine, then make my smuggler and my bounty hunter a part of the Hutt Cartel Faction like they are supposed to be, instead of republic or imperial. Problem solved. They can freely transfer mail that way.

None of these "restrictions" serve any purpose but to ultimately cause player base to shrink. Players of the same faction can freely transfer items via trade and mail. So any argument about economy is silly. That's why it is more a "republic is not supposed to trade/communicate with imperial" thing.

Yes, that would be great. And the same for imperial agent, who could go disguise and make the trade/exchange. Remember LOTRO? Where only rangers were allowed fast travel to certain destinations? But they could take people with them so I was often in high demand. It was quite a socializing and a way to make a new friends. Here is basically no difference between smuggler and a trooper I usually felt more like a trooper playing my smuggler as all I had to do was to kill EVERYTHING

I was just wondering why there isn't "smuggler missions" as part of the crew skills, or "bounty hunter" missions for that matter.

That is a great idea.

No, only Nar Shaddaa's GTN is just "global." I can, for instance, see items i put on the GTN in Coruscant while I am on the Fleet. If you're a WoW player, present or past, you'd probably understand it because it has the same principle there for the Auction Houses.

Horde (Imperial( have their own AH (GTN) for Horde (Imperial) Cities.
Alliance (Republic) has their own AH (GTN) for Alliance (Republic) Cities.
Neutral (Hutt Cartel) has their own AH (GTN) for both Alliance (Republic) and Horde (Imperial).

This is the same for SWtOR, just replace Horde with Imperial, Alliance with Republic, and Neutral with Hutt Cartel. The Neutral Planet is Nar Shaddaa.

I get it, but it's a bit ridiculous to limit who we can send mail to.

What if they were not an alt, but a friend, who plays at different times than I do that I wanted to send some stuff or just some communication to??

Don't know why I am asking this when they make us go to a mailbox for mail in the first place. This is Star Wars! I think mail boxes are a bit a thing of the past.

Let's lose the role playing restrictions on mail. Leave that for the RP servers.
it has to do with the effects on the server economies not RPing

Why we are not able? One can just guess that they don't want cooperation with the enemy and are not able to differ same account toons and other people.

I'd actually support this. I'd even be okay with making any items transfered this way account-bound or something like that.

Yes, I tried trading with my husband's Republic character on my imperial character. You do not have the option. So I instead placed the item on the auction and had him buy it then trade it to my character on Republic side.

I wouldn't even worry about it, except for some reason faction restricted patterns drop on the wrong side so I had to make an Imperial player to get patterns for my Republic crafting.

Oh boy, if the Legacy system comes out and it doesn't include a Legacy-Bank for all toons, regardless the side and from where you can even craft, i am going to go Wookie-Rage.
it would be nice if this were to occur since the whole idea of the legacy is a family tree. Handing down a LS as a family heirloom would be nice
