OMG I've invented words over this! I equate it to someone walking into my office, sweeping everything off my desk and saying "Now that I have your complete attention, I have that document you requested...

^^^^^ That is a GREAT analogy. Nothing more annoying than FINALLY finding what your looking for then have the windows close and you have to do all the filtering/searching again.

Another thing that would be hugely helpful is if the crafting items stated what craft they were from. Being a new MMO people don't or may not know that a Rubat Crystal is archelogy, and seeing as we have to put that in as a filter, it would be nice if over the mouse over on the item it said what skill it came from so we know what to look for in the AH.

I honestly dont understand why they have to divide the GTN in to separate sections in this way.

It would have been much better is these fields had instead been optional to be used as search filters instead, but generally allow people to search the GTN for anything to begin with.

I dont sell much on GTN for this very reason.
Having to go through all these required filed just to find one single item is very frustrating, not to mention that some items, especially crafting mats, are either mislabeled or placed in the wrong category.

I have usually made lots of money in other games just buying up cheap items and reselling them at higher prices, but the way the GTN here work it makes such an effort difficult at best.

Instead of just doing an "empty search" (searching with an empty search field) and get all items thats listed regardless of category, I have to go through each category and subcategory separately making it a very time consuming process.

I sincerely hope they do something about this very soon.
Humans say the Road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

Why? Do they think there's a shortage of bad ones?

They started requiring category filters in Beta because without them, the whole thing was too slow to use. Now it's tolerable speed but semi useless.

I'm afraid they need to get a new GTN back end database. If they had a superfast one, they could afford to let the player UI be more freeform without killing the server.

Also, the "Usable by" filters don't really work, which is insult to injury. And the one filter we could really use - Slot - isn't there.

I am trying to use it but getting a poor success rate on sales even though the prices and items are good. I can tell it's more or less pure luck when a buyer finds something.

All the other items are MUCH more important. But another annoying thing is having the reset button so close to the search button. Very frustrating to select half a dozen filters and then accidentally lose it all.

I just wanted to add that I too don't use the trade terminal because it's wildly frustrating for reasons already mentioned. please please fix.

Vanilla WoW wasn't exactly stellar, but you're right - at least we could find stuff. If dev only did three things to the GTN right now, I would hope for:
- adding slots (head, hands, relic, etc.)
- lose the multiple search fields and have an expanding dropdown list under each main item type, and
- be able to shift-click or right-click an item to paste its name into the search field.
Can we please just have our pre-KotFE SWTOR MMORPG back?

This thread is completely accurate. This system is the worst I've seen in any MMO. If it never changed, it'd probably be enough for me to quit over if everything else wasn't stellar, because trading is one of the big things I enjoyed doing to make money in MMOs.

All of the things posted, plus the fact that your deposit isn't based on the item's lvl, but how much you post it for really hurts the idea of an economy. Not to mention if you accidentally add a couple numbers by accident when posting, you could post an item for an insane amount of money...and unlike other MMOs, it wouldn't be a "Oh darn, I better relist that", it would be a "NO! I JUST DEPOSITED SEVERAL MILLION CREDITS THAT I CAN'T GET BACK!"

Please...just fix the GTN.

If an auction house item is not sold, do you get the item back or do you lose it? I put up a few things on the AH, and they didn't sell and I have not received the items back.

You should have got both the item and the full deposit back
