I run quad 4 3ghz, 6gb ddr3, 1gb redeon all drivers are up to date, so no its not my system if it worked fine earlier, now i dont even go near warzones and try to avoid fleet unless my inventory is loaded up with items to sell.
I had the same experience, except with heat issues after the Jan 6th patch...game ran perfectly till then, something they did on that patch messed it up. They won't admit it and all the fanbois say it's entirely the fault of our computers (when nothing changed our end). I now avoid fleet as well. The hero engine is clearly not designed for MMORPGs - places with people in them

So for that series of rudenesses, not going to bother reporting bugs etc any more - clearly it's pointless (all the bugs I've been reporting are still in the game). Just sticking around with my best schadenfreude face on

CAUTION: DO NOT LOAD SWTOR UNLESS YOU HAVE AFTER-MARKET COOLING INSTALLED!!

Ive got a AMD 3.2 ghz black edition
8gb ddr 3 1600mhz ram
geforce 560ti

and in space ports heavily populated areas it lags this is on medium as well no idea what the hell the optimization is like but im guessing its pretty bad to say the least

This is pulled from another thread, but explains what this buggy engine is doing wrong to our computers -

I pointed out that it only occurs on the higher end, because the common excuse is "don't occur for me, and I'm only on a [low end card], which should overheat more, right?". And thusly, there is a reason that low end cards don't overheat, and high end ones do, but to an average person that seems illogical. Hence the explanation.
This is pretty much what SWTOR is doing when we enter areas like fleet, and warzones - it's thrashing our harddrives; trying to pull large amounts of texture data all at once from our harddrives. This has been confirmed by Stephen Reid.

clicky

The problem is in the coding of SWTOR, and it's causing our faster rigs some damage by making them work too hard just because they can.

this is all very true but heres the kicker when beta was going on. I know right dosnt seem like they had one. Fps were not a problem. I like many other people have maxed level toons. Knowing how hard juggs are to do class quest I went to help a guildy the other day.

We have close to the same alien ware m17x r3's and went in to a quest I have done and I just droped to unholy hell. This is a quest I did 2 weeks ago with help with no problems. So what ever the real problem is its getting worse

Tons of people are saying the fps are droping more and more. I know some one will post in a min and say works fine for me bro its your rig. No its the old crap eng they used with crap coding WHAT THATS RIGHT I SAID IT CRAP ENG WITH CRAP CODE

in EGA I had 0 probs. Since then every few days fps spikes in WZ's and fleet have intensified.

I have done everything a computer owner can do to improve this and nothing works. Doesn't matter how high or low my settings are or whats off and on.

So weird that in beta and early access maxed settings no prob. Then after a patch day around Jan 4th-6th all goes to hell

eh. well you know what considering there's over 2 million people who own the game now and what, a couple thousand who have issues?, i think that falls into the category of most. even overwhelming majority.. don't you?

For people with a (good) laptop and low performance:

FORMAT YOUR LAPTOP!

With the oh so nice included "bloatware" from publishers, it will slow your laptop down CONSIDERABLY! Formatting your laptop for a clean PC will make it run SO much faster.

I am running this on my laptop without any problems whatsoever.
At around 30 fps in fleet, 40-50 fps in pvp, over 60 constant fps outdoor areas.

SPECS:

Intel Core i7 2630QM @ 2.9 GHZ
Nvidia GT 525M @ 685/900/1370
8GB DDR3 RAM
128GB SSD

rant much?
The reality is that your 'minimum requirements' are just that. They are MINIMUM. If you have a PC (or laptop) that meets MINIMUM requirements, you're going to be able to play MINIMALLY (ie: 10 FPS). Get over it.

I have had only occasional slowdowns but generally exceed 60 FPS when playing, which is a huge improvement over the FPS I got with my last vid card (eVGA GeForce GTX 520 2gb).
o_O

I have that exact same videocard, but was thinking it was kinda bad because it doesn't go above 20 fps when on High or even Medium settings.
Currently everything is set to low, low, low, and off. And I'm pulling about 10 fps in a capital, on average 15 fps in a pvp match, and about 43 in the normal outside world while questing.

Complete specs:
- AMD phenom II Hex core @ 3.7GHz
- 16GB DDR3 @ 1833 Mhz
- eVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB
- 120GB Agility 3 SSD
- 1TB Caviar Black
- Not sure of the motherboard, but it's a Gigabyte something something that is reasonably decent. And I recently updated the firmware. ^^

Performance:
- On average about 8-12 fps on the fleet.
- On average about 13-15 fps in a warzone.
- On average about 40-45 fps while questing.

So.
I was thinking it was perhaps just that the game wasn't adjusted for the videocard. But since people with the exact same one seems to have a whole lot better performance, I kinda suppose we can rule that out.
I've also tried the latest "recommended" drivers, as well as the beta ones. But no differene there.
So, I'm blaming it on me using a hex-core processor instead of a dual- or quad-core.
Personally, I'm thinking this game might just not be optimized for anything more then a dualcore or a quadcore. Which seems somewhat plausible.

However.
Cause I figured to look a bit further towards the cause and I might as well use this oppertunity to bring something to light here.

This game has some insane memory leaks.
To save you the trouble of Googling the term;
Spoiler

This is best shown by simply disabling your GUI.
Press Alt+Z and see your FPSses skyrocket.
Press Alt+Z again, and see it back to it's good old self.

Conclusion.
It's not the game coding. It's not the textures. It's not the shaders. (Or well.. perhaps still somewhat)
But the largest factor in all hampering, is by my findings, just the GUI.

From what i have read there is a load of high end PC's having these issues. I'm not sure why they say the 5% apparently having fps issues have low end pc's
Revenge is a dish best served cold.
