Patch 1.1: PvP failure

The only thing that I appreciate of this patch, PvP-wise, is the effort they put into it. But the content itself is pretty much disgraceful.

GENERAL PvP

They did not address at all the lag issue. That is a big gamebreaker for many PvPers. They did not fix certain abilities, such as the delay on Project.

WARZONES

The level 50 bracket is the only positive thing of this patch. Unfortunately, that alone is not going to solve faction imbalance issues. We need full premade groups and rated Warzones.

OPEN WORLD PVP

This is the worst of the worst they could do.

1) Ilum as it stands now (pre-pacth) is just a bad joke, but these changes are not going to change anything. Possibly, they will make it worse. They will only discourage Reps from going to Ilum at all. Reps (lower population numbers on ALL servers) will never get the valor bonus and never be able to complete their dailies. Truth is: You cannot succeed at open world PvP in a game with 2 factions unless you manage to balance them out in terms of population.

2) Even if their plan to encourage Ilum PvP succeeded for now, what happens when people reach the top PvP rank and do not need Valor anymore? Elementary my dear Watson: They will stop going to Ilum leaving the area deserted. I have seen this same idiocy happen in Rift. They launched PvP rifts and people played with them for a week. After that open world PvP was dead again.

DEAR BW, YOU NEED TO IMPLEMENT AN OPEN WORLD PVP SYSTEM WHICH IS MEANINGFUL AND KEEP PLAYERS INTERESTED IN FIGHTING EACH OTHER!!!

For the moment they can just make of Ilum a Wintergrasp-like area. Just make the bases conquerable and whoever has the control of the planet gains access to a 1-boss raid, earns tokens, and has access to unique vendors.

In the future you need to move toward a sandbox direction, creating planets where we can build our own bases for our guilds, with the chance to assault and defend them. Take a look at Archeage or DAOC, and just copy from them.

Do this or fail.

Gotta agree with the open world PVP issues, it will most likely never be right with most people rolling on imperial characters.

warzones are fine in my opinion, just need to add a lot more to really give people a variety (including more that offer same faction teams ie huttball to address the population imbalance)

They are going to have to think outside the box if they want to offer a fresh open world PvP feel, but at this point I think we just need to have some faith.

I'm sorry Blizzard didn't make another expansion pack for you.

This is a different game though.
I like to lurk

I am sorry fanboys are still defending PvP in TOR: Thanks to people like you this game will be dead soon. As soon as the PvP community migrates to another game (Tera and GW2 are just around the corner). BW should be pruod of you.

I find it funny how people in MMO's think PvP is the main point to playing ANY and EVERY mmo...sorry to burst your bubble but PvP is not the ONLY reason to play an MMO, as well as its not the only content that matters. People that PvP only do so because what skill does it take to capture a flag or throw a ball and kill people (or be killed 1000000 times and then let your team carry you to a win). PvP is rediculous. Its the god father of all Carry Me's. I accept that PvE is part of the game as well as PvP.

level 50 only brackets = 30 minutes to an hour wait time between warzones.

When people complain about level 50's in the warzone, they don't fully understand what they're complaining about.

1: You're getting owned because of focus fire, opposition healing each other, and all around just better players than you are.

2: You're getting owned because the opposition is better organized than you.

I'm a decently good pvp player, I understand kiting, strafing, proper manipulation of stuns, knock-backs and the various game mechanics as a whole. As a level 50 heal spec mercenary with a few 50 pvp gear pieces I am still able to be killed (quite fast in a lot cases) by lower level players if they take the time to focus fire me. Most of the time my level 15 assassin feels like it has more survive-ability than my level 50 wearing heavy armor with healing abilities.

Level 50's do have an advantage over lower level players but it is hardly as game breaking as people think. Most of that advantage comes from experience and familiarity of their characters. I will be very happy to continue to play my lower level characters against level 50's any day of the week.

Game companies that make changes to their games based off of ill informed customers' complaints usually destroy that particular aspect of the game. I am truly sorry that the warzone population can't see that things are well balanced as they now stand.

What this thread is missing the fact if they change anything in pvp class wise, is that they will change the PvE aspect for those classes as well as an unintended affect. That was WoW biggest problem, they listened to the PvPers and completely changed thier high end Raiders abilities so that they completely borked thier class for PvE. why? So that ppl who just sit around in thier underwear and PvP all day would be happy. Hate to break it to those ppl, but this game was built more the PvE aspect. They made both sith and republic side almost identical, like chess peices, but the sides have a different feel to them. So if they change one thing to one side, they'll have to change it for the other.

Where are the number's showing just how many people PVP? Even if 50% of servers are PVP servers, how full are they? At most, a lot of them have normal or light populations, so it doesn't seem to me that the PVP'rs outnumber the PVE'rs, really both seem about the same.

Is PVP important? Sure, is it going to be the death of a game if it isn't absolutely perfect? Unless the game was DESIGNED with PVP in mind first, no it wont, yeah several thousand people can unsub and go to GW2, Rift whatever, but the PVE or carebears that PVP'rs love to call them will still be here, people kept saying that unless PVP was fixed WoW would die because of "how important the PVP community is!" Guess what, it's still there, and it will probably continue to be there. Just like this game will be, quit acting like your a special damn snowflake because you PVP.
