Yo, just as a clue in here. When blizzard introduced badges as the major system of gearing in WoW it began to drop subs massively. Badges are a way to fill itemization holes because of poor class design.

You dont have those itemization holes for the most part. Badges dont need to exist except as a way for your playerbase to see exactly the carrot laid out infront of them.

Just because you think badges caused a massive drop in WoW subs, doesn't mean that it actually did.

Badges were introduced with Burning Crusade. WoW kept increasing subs through Wrath, so it certainly wasn't badges that did anything to the population.

Badges weren't that bad. WoW lost a lot of people when they started giving away raid gear with them. The gear people worked hard to get from drops were being handed out to people through heroics. You had players with NO idea how to play their characters get into raids because of their gear score. This kills and it extremely annoying. Make sure it doesn't happen.

Right, because farming the same boss over and over and hoping for RNG to reward you for your work is a great system too. Badges in WoW never gave out all the best gear, merely gear good enough to compete in the current raid content. Rounding out a raid set or gearing an acceptable off-set isn't a bad thing.

the only fault i can find with badges is the way this game does them, for instance to get columi legs, you either need to grind D7 hard, or do EV hard, and weekly/dailies for 67 columi badges.

it takes a good 2+ weeks of grinding to get the legs via badges, but only 4 or 5 runs (on average) to get it as a drop, the risk vs reward ratio is kinda weird.

otherwise i think its a good system, as you can fill in the gaps in your gear (if you are really unlucky with drops) by buying 1 piece after a few weeks.

The issue is not getting gear through badges, but the ratio of the amount of badges to gear.

If people obtain gear too quick, thus get through the content too quick, then they quit playing because there is nothing to strive for.
