wanna talk about instanced? GW1 is heavily instance to the same respect of DDO. GW2 will be a more dressed up fluffed version of the previous

however there are some posters who say GW2 is nothing like GW1. impossible.

that's like Diablo all the sudden becoming an RTS. they think its that different.
You have some reading to do about GW2, because it's clear you don't know ANYTHING about it.

I can't tell from that post if he's talking about Guild Wars 2 or SW:TOR when he mentions the $60. It's a bit vague, and maybe I misread.

I still stand by the statement that BTP and FTP are not the same thing.

I've also got my doubts that GW2 will be any more of a niche game than GW1, but that's just my personal opinion. I suspect that if they had their own forums, they'd lose out on all the ninja on other games' forums and most people wouldn't even know it existed.

The complaints about Guild Wars 1 that people had generally:

1- Instanced world, where you never see another player while questing
2- no jumping, no swimming

Those 2 things were really the biggest complaints that made people made when leaving the game shortly after trying it.

1- Fact is Guild Wars 2 is a persistent world. That is one of the focal point of the game design, and has been demoed at various conventions, with people playing with Arenanet employees who were in another state, and some cases across the ocean. They game won't all of the sudden become instanced like Guild Wars 1 this late into development.

2- The game has been demoed, with random players playing it with them jumping, also they have showed swimming even with battles in the water and the whole system for swimming battles.

Those things can be stated as fact.

I'm sorry, but I prefer to pay $15 (not that much money) and have access to the whole game, than having to pay for every part of it and/or having to bear with the usual F2P kiddies/MMO hoppers in my community, because any of those care a **** about any game that they play (with all what comes with that kind of mentality).

Cheers.

Stuff like in game mounts, which no one is forcing you to buy. I never did like the WoW Celestial Steed.

Now what would be better for SWTOR. 500,0000 subscribers, or 2 million free to play subscribers, using the above model?
for goodness sake, the game just came out and it hasn't even been a month yet and you're talking about making it free-to-play with microtransactions? give it about a year, just like dc universe online.

Without fail, the store stops becoming optional for the game, for every company that I have seen do this. Core mechanics get mixed up into them, and it becomes a money sink. Where to get what you would have had just paying a subscription, you end up spending more through their micro-transactions. You do not want to go that direction. Again every game I've seen do this has gotten greedy and started exploiting this way.
Actually, if you take a look at the Guild Wars in-game store, there are no game breaking items. Just some costumes, more bank space, extra character slots and elite skills and pets for PvP-only characters. Those same elite skills and pets can be obtained by playing the campaign version of the game. There are also name and appearance change tokens. None of those things are needed to play the game and stay competitive.

I've played GW on and off for over 5 years and besides the box prices (I have all of the campaigns and the expansion), I spent about $20 on costumes.

On the other hand, if you take a look at WAR's in-game store... Guess who runs WAR?

Bioware isn't one to be swayed to make content, sure they have game developers, but they're being told what to do by brutal business people.

The second Bioware figures out this is losing money they'll cut funding and development will plummet.

The game launched very very badly. Its in piss poor shape right now and come end of month will find a lot of people will leave. It's just the fact of the game. Very few people replay games like Dragon Age and Mass effect.

People will quite after they finish their story with little to no reason to keep playing. I myself quite and won't really come back at all, now if this was F2P I'd keep playing. I just don't think the game is good enough to keep paying for.

But whatever this game has the very worst fanbois I've ever seen for an MMO, you guys put wow kids to shame.

You guys forget that this game cant go free to play anytime soon. Because BioWares budget came from two places (EA and Lucas Arts) and the "payment plan" i suppose you could call it that they have set up is. EA gets all their money back first, then I think they have a share of all profits after that but I'm not sure on the percentage. Then and only then does Lucas Arts start to get paid a ridiculous 25% of all profits.

And I don't know about you but if I was Lucas Arts I would no want this game to go free to play before they get paid a substantial amount of money.

EDIT (and as a side note BioWare won't exactly be short on cash anytime soon "ME3 gonna rake in mad cash" this is a very rich company")

For every single MMO that tried it, they make on average 3 times the amount of money going free to play with paid features.

It's like super extended free trial for people that wouldn't otherwise play or even try the game. People will play it because it's free. A lot of people must be reluctant to even try TOR because of it's immense negative feedback by everyone but a paid journalist.
