The same has happened to other MMOs that launched when they weren't ready so why think otherwise...

Hey at least we'll be able to get the high texture pack for $10
(points at warhammer online)

How can we take anyone who says TOR will be F2P anytime soon seriously?

Stuff like in game mounts, which no one is forcing you to buy. I never did like the WoW Celestial Steed.

Now what would be better for SWTOR. 500,0000 subscribers, or 2 million free to play subscribers, using the above model?
Noooo!!! Oh gawd no. Having played those games and seen what they turn into, no you do not want to go there.

Without fail, the store stops becoming optional for the game, for every company that I have seen do this. Core mechanics get mixed up into them, and it becomes a money sink. Where to get what you would have had just paying a subscription, you end up spending more through their micro-transactions. You do not want to go that direction. Again every game I've seen do this has gotten greedy and started exploiting this way.
Friend reference, you get 7 daysof free subscription,
free character transfer, and items mailed to all your characters.

FTP doesn't necessarily mean good content. Look at maplestory. Games has been free to play since the beginning. Sure they make good money but the content it comes out with half the time is crap and OP. I approve of the subscription model because it motivates devs and im not cheap.

If SWTOR should have been a micro transaction F2P MMO it needed to be built up around it from the start, but it did not, and should stick to be the subscription based game it has been built as.

SWG towards the end had an estimated 2,000 subscribers (estimated, because Sony Online Entertainment doesn't release sub numbers). The player base was fantastic. Mostly just the hard core (Veterans). I grant you that free to play would open the game up to those you would probably not like to play with. How many Asians would be playing? That doesn't bother me. I say the more the merrier. I don't immediatly jump to the conclusion that they are all credit farmers.

Besides, $15 over 30 days is what? $0.50 a day or less depending on the month (30 or 31 days).
How can you not afford that?

If you are living that close to the edge gaming should not be a factor, along with internet and cable.

Any other questions?

And your title is misleading. You don't explain why you think free-to-play would work for this game.
#1: Guild wars has been free and Guild Wars 2 will be free thus sayeth the Guild Wars Developers.

#2: It is WAAAAAAAY too early for bioware/EA to start considering a f2p model when they are quite clearly not having a problem filling up the servers at the moment. A f2p model would be a good idea if the game suffered from lack of subs, but unless it threatens to shut down the game I don't see them switching to a different sub model.

GW one is trash only only a folks who like that game play it it has a niche audience the same will be said for GW2 pretty much anybody who likes GW1 will try GW2 guaranteed. as they've been looking for something new.

however the game is trash i couldn't even get out of the first area.

wanna talk about instanced? GW1 is heavily instance to the same respect of DDO. GW2 will be a more dressed up fluffed version of the previous

however there are some posters who say GW2 is nothing like GW1. impossible.

that's like Diablo all the sudden becoming an RTS. they think its that different.

I remember in an interview, Bioware stated that they created the game to be easily changed to a FTP model if needs be.
