Why the free to play with micro transactions would work for SWTOR

From what I gather Guild Wars 2 will be free to play with micro transactions. They will also most likely charge for expansions (DLC) at around $10 each. Keep in mind that the cost of the game is also $60. If they have 4 DLC's in one year that's $40, plus the revenue from micro transactions. Stuff like in game mounts, which no one is forcing you to buy. I never did like the WoW Celestial Steed.

Now what would be better for SWTOR. 500,0000 subscribers, or 2 million free to play subscribers, using the above model?

You are incorrect about Guild Wars 2 (it will not be free-to-play), and I'd much rather have a subscription-model game with 5000,000 subscribers than a FTP game with 2 million.

Any other questions?

And your title is misleading. You don't explain why you think free-to-play would work for this game.

No thank you!

Also yeah 5000000 is bigger than 2000000 so nice job there.

No, steady income for steady support and content. If 15$ a month is too much for you to spend on a hobby you need to not be spending a ton of time playing a game.

The minute swtor or any other MMORPG's come out in the future turn F2P OR B2P like GW1 is the minute I quit mmorpg's all together.

It will probably go F2P unless they make some major changes quickly.

The same has happened to other MMOs that launched when they weren't ready so why think otherwise...

Hey at least we'll be able to get the high texture pack for $10

Everything I read on the internet says free to play for Guild Wars 2. The last was in October, 2011. Show me a source (interview) saying it will have a subscription model.

They'd have to fail pretty miserably to turn to F2P. Time will tell... but I certainly prefer cleaner sub model than F2P that, first end up costing more than paid (unless you want eternal grind for some sort of fake currency that reflects real life one), second spawns tons of kids cause 'its free' destroying the community health (and health of anyone daring to keep general chat open)

Yeah so um your incorrect?
"Will there be a subscription fee for Guild Wars 2?
Nope. Like the original Guild Wars, there will be no subscription fee for Guild Wars 2. You just buy the game and play it online without paying a monthly fee."
