I was on Galahad/Midgard. I was in Volsung Tribe which was predominately an Australian guild.

EDIT: The reason Midgard was "rare spawned" was the Alb/Hib alliance after the Stungard debacle, and a lot of people on Albion using Odin's Eye.

Oh, don't you remember Stunguard......

Scouts at launch, made Operatives look like piss ants, could hit you at clip range....wait, how did our clothie just die out of nowhere?.....

How awesome were buffbots, 2 accounts to just be a viable stealther, so awesomesauce....

Smite clerics were so balanced......

Oh, remember our 16-man group treks into Emain only to run into the 250-man Alb zerg that would proceed to wait outside our realm keep for 2 hours? Oh wait, we would go zerg Svasude Faste instead since Mids are LOL in our realm.....

Exploited relic keep defenses for a free relic for the Alb zerg that was never acknowledged.....

Artifacts that took 6 weeks of grinding mobs hours a day that required a group of 8 to take down, so fun......

/end sarcasm

Ending my rant with ToC since I think that's when we can all agree things were going downhill. I loved the game too, but stop looking through tinted glasses....even the best games had it's share of issues.

Oh wait....1 more!

Even with all that it was still a LOT of fun. The system had that much going for it. Though all those issues were bad.. LOL. They were fixed in the first few months mainly. And the balancing was endless, since they never could really balance around the 40 or so unique classes perfectly, it was still decent however. Very ambitious and it was often glorious.

1 game working doesn't mean it always works. 3 Factions or no factions make it more likely to succeed and honestly, a lot more fun because fights can turn completely random and oddball.

I didn't play GW, it looked terrible and honestly the classes looked very watered down which yeah, may have been pretty well balanced but boring. I may also be talking out of my ***, totally possible.

Technically there were 100 different class combinations... so balancing was not an easy job for them.

dunno what you mean with watered down, every other mmo s limited in range of ways you could play your class compared to gw..... (sword swinging tanking melee healer np)

Most different thing is the skill-system, you have 5 main trees where you can spend points and 4 secondary trees from your second class, you could use whichever skills you wanted, spending skillpoints in their tree just made the skills stronger, there was nothing like crit, surge etc, everyone had 500 base hp + set bonus.... and you had to pick out of the 5-10k different skills 8 you wanted to use.....
Gave it some aspect of a card game....

Secondary class as well as build (skillpoints you used on trees and skills you had in your bar) could be freely changed whenever you wanted outside of combat....
And as PvP-Player you didn't had to step once in open world because you could all stuff unlock with "pvp-points" (skills, "weapon-bonuses", and set-"bonuses") and could also max-lvl-chars only useable in pvp.... (means if i wanted to play dd, I didnt had to play xyz houers just to find out how he was doing in pvp i could only make one, check it out and unlock more skills for it)

It had more Tools for pvp already implentet than any other game (you could draw for tactics on the map, call with simple doubleclicks targets (other players had to hit 1 button to focus on your target)), you had ease ways to communicate status, dots, roots, health, mana.....

The looks weren't/aren't great, but balancing, builds, opportunities, equal chances for everyone was great (all regarding pvp)
but ignoring the pvp aspect there wasn't very much left to be honest

And yes 1 game working doesn't mean it works you are right, I mean except gw and eve none mmo I've played had a real, real good balancing.... (I rmbr 1 balancing "issue" in gw and 0 in eve , the gw balancing issue made you op but not unbeatable xD)

Not trying to start a flame war or anything but 100 classes that did pretty much the same thing? I've watched high level GW matches on youtube. It looked incredibly boring and everyone looked the same. Even "casters" seemed like melee with shields etc. Quality over quantity imo.

Also, as much as I love DAoC (and I do -- I miss it still and no PvP system will beat it), it won't work in modern MMOs because the only reward PvPers in DAoC really got was RRs. People these days want gear and lootz. Unfortunately.
People want what devs give them. Before there was a reason to PVP Wow had TM SS. The real question is can people make a game that ISNT going to be for the masses and have daoc style game play? I think it can be done but you have to accept it isnt going to be a million sub game.

I remember it all and will still take that game play and long mezz and EVERYTHING THAT WAS WRONG WITH DAOC , over the current model of BGs for gear.

Ive seen people hate on daoc because it wasnt a tourney game capable of being competitive. I dont disagree that it wasnt a tourney game but i would put any of those top 8 man teams against some of the modern mmo people.

yea the "shields" were for looks, it had something to do with spotting over distance, so that ppl had actually to tab through players to spot the healers... (and the tab button had a reach....)

trust me, pvp in swtor is slow and boring compared to gw...

there were 10 (?) classes, each class could do different things, each class had supporting abilities as well as offensive abilities, none were the same...

some example for classes, a guy summoning ghost haveing area-effects

a guy useing bow, being able to use a pet and summon area-effects as well as buff himself, interupt, stun and root

a guy being able to heal, protect, buff, dot, and dmg

a guy beeing able to improve his energy cap, buffing his energy, as well as focusing on 4 different kind of dmg trees, could also amazingly root or tank

a guy focusing on melee dmg, haveing attacks chaining up on each other haveing also buffs for himself, low armor, fast dmg output, haveing stuns, dots and roots on his attacks

a guy focusing on melle, can chose 3 different weapon, can stun and root and can focus on tanking

a guy focusing on interupts, energy stealing, debuffs (mesmer, amazing class desing no other mmo had ever smth near as individual as thi guy, the nightmare of a caster or melee depending on build)

a guy focusing on summoning creatures, debuffs, health stealing, dmg and dots

thats a sum of a few classes....

I love this thread, DAoC was the best game ever and I still visit Uthgard to play it. We do this every game launch though. I had zero doubt this would be nothing like DAoC and I've given up hope its ever coming tbh. Thanks for the memories though!
