All the indications to me are that he is a mercenary, hired gun, smuggler jack-of-all-trades kinda guy, that wears heavy armor. But he is a civillian, not military.
His skills are the same as a troopers. Oh, and he uses AIM as is primary stat.

Mercenary, hired gun, bounty hunter, trooper, whatever, they all gonna wear the same armor (heavy trooper style armor). You would too, if you were running any of those roles.

Use some imagination. If you want him to be a merc, then dress him in mismatched colored armor, clown like... you know... like most Armor in WoW unless you are wearing a matched set. A very utilitarian thing for a merc or a bounty hunter to do actually.
When you find yourself surrounded by hostile Clowns... always go for the "Juggler" first.

I think Riggs is more of a soldier than a smuggler, I think he joined the peace corps as a young man.but he not a smuggler even though he worked for one.
So what does this key unlock.........I hope it's a chastity belt.

Buy Orange armor that is not trooper armor, you know like smuggler armor perhaps, and equip it with mods for his stat requirements. Don't worry if it is light/medium/heavy default, that does not make much difference in damage mitigation anyway. Hey, dress him up in Twi'lek dancing gear from the security vendor if you want. It's orange and you can mod it to meet stat requirements.

Must Bioware do everything for you? Maybe make use the the features and components they gave you and be a little inventive or innovative.

Besides, they are going to release a ton of new stuff in future patches. To complain about it now is kind of silly IMO.
I've been considering using Orange Medium armor for Corso, but I've heard that you could lose 20% mitigation by doing that. Since Corso is a tank, I'd hate for him to be squishy since that's what keeps me alive.

Additionally, you still have the issue of tags on the orange armor, which restricts who can wear what. If it says "Requires <insert class name here>" or has a "Light/Dark" restriction, it barrs you from outfitting your companion in said gear.

I'm not even sure where to find non-tagged Orange armor, other than flashpoints.
Look, we got four or five of the main characters on this ship. I think we're gonna be okay.

Armor Merchants sell non-tagged Orange armor. You cannot get all pieces, but really you only need the chest, and maybe pants. So do commendation vendors. So far I have found orange armor of sale on every planet, especially chest pieces. So do the social vendors if you have the social status.

According to Bioware, the difference in mitigation between heavy and medium armor is 5%. You won't even notice this, IMO.

Well, I understand this is a workaround, but it would still be nice to not have to do this.

It would be nice if you could find a variety of options through loot drops, GTN, etc.

It gets to be rather annoying, having to workaround stuff all the time, that in my opinion, shouldn't have been an issue to begin with!

In AOTC the clone armor was based on Fett's armor, in 4-6 the Storm trooper armor is based, loosely, on the Clone armor, so what about the armor look before the Clone Troopers? Also, you don't see police body armor, or SWAT body armor matching the Military. Nor does one Companies bullet proof vest match another's in design and style, each is a bit different, as each company is different. So why should all heavy armor look the same? Shouldn't each armor company have a different design and different look? Also why should all of our armor look like Mandalorian armor, which we have fought many time in the past and proved ourselves better then several time, and who are allied to (loosely) the Empire?!?!

You have some good points here.

I still think this could be easily resolved (at least from the Republic perspective) if some of the Empire loot table that was intended for Bounty Hunters, was added to Republic.

At the very least, adding the greens. I could see not adding the blues, purples and oranges, because those should be distinct to the BH for PvP purposes, but the greens are common to the world, and would go a long way towards diversifying civillian armors on Corso and Qyzen.

I know some people say the Nar Shadda GTN is an option, but after looking at it last night, the majority of what I found appeared to be Republic gear.

It would seem that Bioware is trying to remake "Attack of the Clones"!

Every where you look, all you see is Havoc Squad.

Troopers, wear Heavy Armor and look like Stormtroopers.
Trooper Companions, wear Heavy Armor, look like Stormtroopers.

This is ok. I am fine with this. And I'm fine with them all wearing the Havoc badge.

Here is what I'm not fine with:

Smuggler Companions, wear Heavy Armor, look like Stormtroopers.
Consular Companions, wear Heavy Armor, look like Stormtroopers.

Seriously, this annoys me to no end. To see Smugglers and Trandoshans, who aren't even military, wearing Havoc Squad gear, colors and insignia.

It's about as bad as going to an estate sale, buying an old set of military medals, then insisting that everyone refer to you as "Sarge".

When I play my smuggler, I can't stand that my companion, who I know is a smuggler, who has told me himself that he is a smuggler, looks like a Stormtrooper.

When I play my Trooper, it annoys me that everyone in the galaxy is either a Stormtrooper, or has a personal Stormtrooper bodyguard. It's a horribly inefficient waste of military resources! No wonder the Empire kicked our ... well you know what.

Please, I BEG YOU Bioware, can we get some more NON-STORMTROOPER looking Heavy Armor with Aim and Endurance? And please, don't make it robes. Plenty of those running around as well. Maybe some stuff that looks similar to the starter gear our companions recieve when they land on Courscant?

Qyzen and Corso would thank you profusely, and so would I.

Yea, they'll get right on it.

Cause there aren't 100000000000000000 issues with the actual game that they need to address first, before the even think about listening to people rant about this type of thing.
Make a fast break, or that'll be the last mistake that <bleep> will make, is what you get for messin' with

The lack of armor looks is really unsettling. With orange customizable gear, what is the point of even changing armor at all? Just buy the three upgrade slots (armoring, mod, and enhancement) and you've got all new stats with the same look. But not all of us want to look the same every time we play.

Take a hint from WoW and DC Universe. WoW now offers transmogrification and DC Universe offers something called "styles" which lets you change the way an item looks without actually changing the item itself. Players will get bored really quick if they can't flaunt their characters.

And regardless to what anyone says, everyone likes to flaunt it. So lets get some different armor types and looks in here asap please. Troopers should be the only ones looking like troopers, just as Jedis should be the only one looking like Jedis.
i haven't played WoW but DCUO had the best customization options i had ever experienced in any MMO

Not expecting Bioware to get right on this.

You have severely mis-interpreted the intention of my post.

My hope is to at least bring the issue to Bioware's attention. I fully realize it could be a very long time, before anything would happen on this. But, if we don't bring issues to their attention, how would Bioware ever know what we aren't happy with?
