Saying that the launch of TOR has to be compared to the launch WoW of many years ago is like saying a new sports sedan launched by Infiniti should be compared to the E30 BMW 3 series from two decades ago, rather than the current 3 series, because they've had two decades more development time after the initial launch. It's absolutely inane. This game isn't competing with the WoW of 7 years ago. It's competing with the current WoW, so obviously that's what it will be compared to.

It does not matter if WoW did not start with those features. TOR and BioWare should not hold themselves to 2004 standards. This is 2012 and players demand 2012 features, 2012 graphics, 2012 tech. TOR has done no innovating in regards to tech. In fact, they've gone backwards. You may say that "Oh, it will all get patched in at a later date." but the fact remains that these simple features, staples of the MMO genre, should have been implemented at launch.

Yes, it lacks some things.

Is Bioware working hard on these issues? I'd like to think they are, since they said they are.

Yes but it did not start with them, So again this is a pointless comparison.
WoW only added some of those features 2 years ago.

So you want all of the features which took 5 years to implement in WoW, plus the standard development time for the base game (a total of near 8 years in all), done in half the time, and at half the cost to the player? Really, what planet are you living on exactly?

these are facts, not opinions.
Now knowing these facts, and knowing that this game was built with more money and time than Blizz had waaaaaaaay back in the day when they made WOW (ancient times in terms of game development). Its should be EXPECTED that the raid content isnt loaded with showstopping gamebreaking, utterly ridiculous bugs. It should be EXPECTED that the gameplay is as smooth or MORE SMOOTH than a 7 year old game in the same genre.
1+1=2, its just all facts that, no matter how much of a Bioware fan you are, you have to face as facts.
So we're going to ignore the hundreds of millions of dollars that Blizzard has been making over the past 7 years to help get more developers to fix bugs?

You can't put a game out that is worse in quality than classic WoW and expect to charge $15 a month for it. The UI doesn't even work properly in this game. SWToR barely meets the WoW standard in some respects and completely falls behind it in others and for a game in 2011 that in inexcusable. We are basically playing a worse version of WoW with no endgame, linear gameworld and unresponsive UI. When it comes down to this or WoW for $15 a month seriously which are you gonna choose?

Honestly though, it makes the most sense to compare SWTOR to the games that will be coming out this year. We're all looking for that game that we'll want to keep coming back to for years to come. GWII and TSW and TERA are all out this year, and they all have things about them that are really breaking out of the WoW MMO mold. WildStar is going to take everything cool about Star Wars and make it fun. SWTOR can't really point to anything besides the storytelling, and their biggest selling point is the BioWare and SWTOR names. Project Copernicus and ArcheAge could both be refreshing blasts form the past. It shouldn't surprise anyone if the next big thing goes back to the roots. Development is circular.

And you know what the best thing is about all those games that I have mentioned? They don't have a two faction system that is forcing developers to design content for two different sides or spend twice as much effort on classes for half the payoff.

What this game could have been and what this game turned out to be are so far apart from each other it's hard not to get disappointed by it. Yes the game is fun, but it's fun in average and bland I've done this before but I like it because it's a new MMO sort of way and that's not really going to keep the subs high.
Yawn yet another SW:TOR has no innovation post but story....

Inovations of Tor the short quick list...

1) Cimematic story telling (ok you game me this one but should be listed because it is huge)
2) Fully voice MMO no mmo in history voiced every NPC and the PLAYER!
3) Multiplayer conversation: now you and your firends can influence each other story.
4) Choice of content choices you make effect some of the content you get in the game
5) Companion more then plot devices, more then pets they are a new aspect to MMOs
6) Loot bags in Raids finally an option to remove the human element to loot
7) Dynamic synced animations, Now when you parry a blow or dodge the animations of your actions and the NPCs action are in sync. So you actually parry their blows. Light sabres actually defelct blaster bolds as in the blaster bolt hit the light sabre and deflects harmlessly away.
8) Crew skills.. lets create a crafting system that allows you to craft while you quest! While primarily for crafters it also gives rewards that non crafters could use as well. aka companion gifts and augments or LS and DS points

The fact is SWTOR has significant innovation but it doesn't match your narrative of how univovative this game is so you ignore the innovations.

Yet SWG had features WoW did not have at launch, So we could use the same comparison.

And SWTOR wasn't out 2 years ago. It's obvious they could have atleast tried adding them in, because they should of been well aware of them.
