I think I understand the nuances of MMOs just fine. I've played almost every single significant release since the genre was incepted. Don't go all "No True Scotsman" on me just because I disagree with your faulty premise that having a bunch of idiots competing for limited resources is somehow a benefit to the player.

TOR is not designed around large public gatherings. Neither was WoW. Didn't hurt WoW, won't hurt TOR. You know what game WAS designed around large public gatherings? Warhammer. Worked out swimmingly for them, didn't it?

The game's world doesn't "feel dead" to me at all. I'm perfectly aware of the other players out there, and I'm happy they're not up in my face, compromising my enjoyment. When you go to bed at night and close the curtains, does the city suddenly feel dead as if everyone outside the window ceased to exist?

This is a psychological problem stemming from a select group of players. Not a design problem.

How are these servers "FULL"??? What is the server cap? 1000? Feels like a ghost town in most areas. And the numbers back it up. On republic side you can usually divide those number by half at least. It is discouraging.
1600 players on average per server at PEAK time.

Pretty pathetic

that's called a false premise. let's talk about all the failed mmos that regurgitated wow's model.

Sure, let's talk about all the "failed MMOs" that regurgitated "WoW's model". How many are there? How many MMO's have had to shutter the doors because their collapsing model drove them right out of business?

Yeah, so it's basically Guild Wars or almost Guild Wars. Except Guild Wars does not claim to be an MMO and does not require a monthly fee.

Well, apparently, if I'm understanding your argument correctly, excessive use of instancing is dooming MMOs to failure, because developers and players are all laboring under the misapprehension that it's far less rewarding to have other players constantly milling around you and disrupting your game play then it is to simply have those players available to you if you wish to group.

You have suggested there are numerous "failed MMOs" who have implemented such a system, and, presumably, you finger this and this alone for their failure to soar to massive subscription numbers. Presumably that's your base line for "success", since with few exceptions almost all of the MMO's you're referring to are A) still active and B) profitable.

The people who are complaining about the lack of people in areas today are the same people who tomorrow will be complaining that there are too many people in their area stealing their mobs, so they can't complete their quests, and can BioWare please add more mobs so they don't have to fight other players for them...

We can go around on this all day. Not everyone is going to agree.

I vastly prefer sharding and instancing to having to compete for spawns. I don't play MMOs to compete.

I like having other people in the world. I don't want them in my face and underfoot constantly.
