I still find it really disappointing, when seeing more than 10 people on Voss, or Corellia, or Belsavis was a rare occasion. Ive had to abandon probably 10-15 heroic quests, just because there was no one to do it with

We're not talking about grouping with others. We're talking about the PERCEPTION of high population due to instanced zones or a de-centralized player base. Stay on topic, please.

That's a pretty interesting revisionist take on Everquest. I loved the game, it's my favorite MMO of all time, but every play session started with "Camp check". Oh, a group has been farming mob X for 13 hours, and has no intention of leaving? Better join the queue!

When Burning Crusade launched, everyone and their dog rolled a Blood Elf. Logging in to the newbie zone that day was like a special hell. At no time, while dodging the 8,000,000 clones with variations of "Legolasers" for a name did I sigh wistfully and think "This is just like a living, breathing world".

In WoW, nearly everyone is level 85 and hanging around Org or SWC. So, that's the entire Horde pop on the server pretty much in Org.

In SWTOR, they're spread out all over the levels, so just taking Tattooine is not the entire Republic or Empire pop.

Tell you what. Go to Feralas in WoW and tell me how many players there are there, and then compare that against Tattooine.

Cheers.
Cheers on missing the point. Tatooine is supposed to be the size of an entire WoW continent (or so says BW) and they still have to spread 60 PEOPLE into two instances. Now, tell me, is this a conscious design choice or do they have to do it, because the game is terribly optimized?

I have no issue with all the instancing and shards, I dont need to see people everywhere, all the time. There are still plenty of crowded places though.

Only problem is your grammar and lack of capitalization.

At any rate I don't care for huge populations in EVERY ZONE. My Taris has like 150 people in it at a time and getting quests done is a b**** to do now. Everyone's doing the bonus, everyone's going after the same guy, its just nuts.

If you look at how laggy fleet gets with 100+ people in it you'll know the answer. Having said that I do believe that was a conscious design choice on their part. I _think_ that BW wants a smaller experience so you get tighter population caps and much more instancings.

the perception of a game's population is important. a game's world will feel dead if zones are unevenly and sparsely populated and people are locked away in instances. people just don't understand the nuances of mmos and miss the point of the genre completely.

All I know is that with my currant play style I solo all the non heroics, because I totally can and thats another discussion.. When all I am left with is heroics it takes forever to get a PUG unless you are lucky in your timing and see one asking for help. Guilds are the way I have to hope.
