I have never ever used meters to harass anyone.

I have used them to better my raid to see who may need help and try to help them. If they can't accept my help because they are to selfish or can't press buttons fast enough, I have 7 other people in the operation to think about. 7 people should not suffer for one persons lack of learning skills.

I'm sorry if you can't accept that then you don't belong in operations. It's the price to play.
I know i'm quoting myself here but I would like to ask one question of the OP.

Is it ok to keep a tank in our operation group that never has any mobs on him and tries to dps only? Never taunts and uses willpower gear?

Are tanks and heals the only players held to any standards? DPS get to hide?

His points are valid.

1. It does not make a difference regarding the Boss kill, if you make 24k dps or 20k dps. Still the guy who is frost and would do 20k, will be insulted, blamed - laughed at.

2. Wow was a fun game until you were forced to copy to "please" the elitistīs who did copy a spec of a popular raiding guild and did praise it like the hole grale.

3. The fact that you are unable to compromise in that matter, shows very well why you want a recount. You dont want it because you want to see your own results, no you only want it to blame others. Such behaivour is poison for an MMO.

This, to me, is probably the most blatant problem with not having public metering.

The bashing literally went on until the DK dropped along with his tank friend. Anyone who's played wow has seen this type of thing and again, it RUINS fun. Plain and simple. I like maximizing DPS too, but I hate being in a group full of jerks harassing people. even if the person being harassed isn't me. I guess I'm alone in that though. Or in the minority in the very least.
This attitude of prohibitive measures has got to stop. Because some people are jerks, therefore all people are jerks? Damage meters didn't create them, they already existed. If it's not measurable poor performance they'll find something else to ***** about.

I completely understand this point and agree.

I think we all can agree that the type of person who wants to tackle the heroic modes and the nightmare modes and try to achieve server firsts, etc are going to want DPS meters and I totally understand and respect that aspect. The problem comes, as the OP mentined, that more often than not what happens is scenarios described above.

Nobody needs DPS meters for standard instance/flash point runs, and yet, more often than not is when the DPS meters get abused the most. People often getting harrased because they aren't pulling leet DPS in a flashpoint that the group can sleepwalk through.

You don't need DPS meters to fix those problems.

If you're being honest here, please answer me, in all your time raiding, seriously, how many times did you wipe because player X was putting out 5% less DPS then they were capable of, and how many times did you wipe because Player X stood in the fire, or didn't DPS the right add, etc? I think if you're being honest, a lack of DPS is usually one of the last reasons a raid fails.
Even if lack of dps accounts for 5% of wipes... How is it not better to have an addon to prevent those 5%?...

And I will answer you... NEVER... know why?.. The second we saw a player/class that was underperforming... we fixed the issue (either with helping with gear, asissting with fixing their rotations, and in the very rare case, replacing the person).. And then never had enrage timer problems.... Maybe not never.. I'm sure my guild had a few missed enrage timers in our life, but I cannot come up with any.

we also had dkp bonuses for dps.. encouraging people to push themselves...allowing us to finish raids sooner... Which led me to spend even more RL time with family and such... hmm...

dps meters are terrible your right....

srsly....

I think some people are just in the wrong guilds. If your in a Hardcore raiding guild then hell yea you should be expected to be getting the most out of your class. If you picked dps you better be dps'n! If your healing you better be fighting tooth and nail for the top heals per sec.

If your in a guild that is just out for fun that's fine too, and they shouldn't be worried about that stuff. I see no reason they would even use a dps meter.

I've played alot o mmos and have been in all types of guilds. The dps meter isn't taking away the choice, it's your guild or yourself. In mmos the game is really what you make it. Everyone has their own idea of fun.

Last mmo i played hardcore style was Age of Conan. Had alot of time on my hands back then and used dps meters constantly and constantly worked and reworked builds and shared information. The fun came from 6-12 man'n 24 player raids lol. Most mmos i've played more casual and had fun in different ways...

The first M stands for Massive.. find ppl you enjoy playing with.

If you put DPS meters in, you might as well remove talent trees. Just give players a choice between a snare or a root. A stun or a fear.
