If this is truly an issue or becomes one after the changes then moving to a pvp server is the ideal option.

FYI PVE servers will always have a lower PVP population... I would think that would be obvious. And if not I would think the description during server selection would have helped.
No offense but this is not obvious to people. When I first started WoW I was told to pick a server based on whether or not I wanted to be interrupted with random PvP while leveling, but that I could CHOOSE to PvP whenever I wanted on either server. It is not common knowledge that even the designated PvP functionality will be less popular on a PvE server as the PvP or PvE designation would appear to only apply to the open world.

Thats exactly the problem. The population isn't 50 yet, and they're splitting the brackets to exclude 50s. Not saying that rolling over 10's in your battlemaster gear is right, but go for gear/level matching first, not something that could potentially break an aspect of the game for some low pop servers. Even if it is his fault for joining a low pop server (its not, bw recommended lower pop servers to avoid queue times), how is it a good thing that he will literally not be able to queue for WZ's at all?

The valor level system alone suggests that BW intends PvP to be a viable playstyle for people as does Ilum there are zones dedicated to PvP (even on PvE servers) so perhaps it is the developer's feeling that the rewards granted for PvP should be meaningful for those kinds of players.
Mainstream mmos tend to under preform. war, and rift, the two most similar games to come out in recent years, both fell short of their expectations. bioware needs to learn that doing the same thing is not the right idea.

The challenge that led to the creation of expertise (imo) is the same Raid gear problem that has come up in countless other games with the same development ideology (ie gear grinds). Essentially when asking why expertise has to exist, one need look no further than the time honored battle between Raiders and PvPers.
Allowing a distinction to exist is the first mistake. No distinction = no fight

Quote:
The bolster system is not enough to resolve the gear disparity issue, this is not purely a problem of expertise but expertise does contribute heavily to the problem. Fortunately through creating a separate bracket for 50s rather than removing expertise two potential issues are resolved.

1) Leveling PCs do not have to compete with end game geared PCs
2) End game PCs have some sort of progression to look forward to in both PvP and PvE
While killing battleground pops.

It would work if server populations were higher

But it doesnt stop there, do this and once everyone gets to 50, they will never pop for pre-50s

The best way to ensure that people can join and play a battleground from levels 10-50 is to keep it all level bracket.

I dont think people look forward to grinding the same 3 warzones over and over to get their pvp gear either. A better solution if they were going to make so few battlegrounds would have been persistent daoc style battlegrounds with objectives or something to mess around with, at least those you could mess around when each side only has a couple players.

It does for me as well. Cross server queue'ing destroyed WoW's sense of community. I can actually remember the names of my biggest foes and allies in WoW back from when things were all single server. I remember thinking, "man, i hope this one has Dalara in it, i'd really like another shot at taking her down." Then we'd joke on our server forums about getting our arse kicked and vice versa. It built a community and made for a better overall game experience. "Oh... there's Banjax...he always fears first then dots you up and then /dances". All that went away with cross realm. It may not seem like a lot, but it's those small things that add up. Frankly, when they added it, sure I could get into bg's more often but they felt soulless afterthat.

I still had that after cross-server queues, I remember names and guilds, and there were still discussions on the battlegroup forums. The only difference is that you didn't keep getting matched against the same premade guild every match because they were the only group queueing on the other side.

the nature of pvp is competition. if someone isn't competitive, i'm not sure why they are pvp'ing.

part of that is measuring up. like Banjax said, part of the fun in wow pvp (before x-server) was being able to recognize a player, see how well you do vs. them, and then being able to communicate afterwards. compare gear, etc.

not only can we not communicate via forum, there's no armory type to see what the opposition is geared in, and now, we're just going to be matched up against total unknowns.

I find this really disappointing. Is a cross server LFG next?

How are we to build a strong community within our servers when we have no place to do so? How can we build reputations in PvP or PvE if the people we see are strangers we will likely never see again?

Do you know how often I saw the same person more than once in a cross server queue in WoW in the years of cross server LFD/PvP? I'd venture no more than a handful of times, none so memorable that I noticed.

Currently I queue for PvP and I can see the same people in games. Sometimes I play with them, sometimes against them (in Huttball). I can say hey guys, look out for XYZ, he's great! Or put a snare on ABC, she's a runner! I know who has my back, and who doesn't. I'm already building a rep as a healer in PvP at level 35. I know who's going to guard me, and who's going to ignore logic and go off all crazy. Cross server queues will kill this, and for what? A faster queue? I've yet to wait more than 5 minutes or so as it is. I'm still having a blast in PvP despite there being oodles of 50's with gear on my server because it's still social, it's still a community thing.

I have no idea what other guilds on my server are doing PvE wise... there is no congregation, there is no tracking of success. I have yet to even see people from my server on the forums outside of the ones I already know.

I'm so disappointed right now I can't even really articulate it.

Your server isn't 'dead' by any means, but it's a lower population server than some others. The good news is, the population is growing daily as more people buy the game and get online (we can see the growth). However, you're right in that the number of level 50 players is going to be small and won't increase dramatically in a short period of time.

Cross-server queuing for PvP is something that the development team wants to happen, but it's not going to be available in the near future. In the interim, you might want to try re-rolling a new character, either on your own server or another server (perhaps a PvP server?). On your own server, you'll be able to PvP all the way from L10 to L49 without any issue, and by the time you get close to the cap you can see how the L50 Warzone 'scene' is. On another server - especially a PvP server - you may find a more PvP-centric community.
Yo dawg, devs heard you like leveling...

Here's another viable option though, you can unsubscribe until there are more 50's, or a better PvP matchmaking system in place. But, you won't hear that around here...

If you want community then go outside and talk to a neighbor. I'm here to push buttons and collect pixels.
SWTOR is an excellent game if you view it from the standpoint of 2003!
