I've played both several times, but I don't remember any gear requiring alignment. I never drift fully into light or dark in ME, and I had all of my companions survive in the end.

I know that kind of pigeon holes people into three extremes, with no viable choices between Total Light/Gray/Dark... so it's a tricky thing to compromise on.[/COLOR]
I agree with this, since they amount of play we have to remain neutral right now is what... 1000 points? If it's a very small amount of room to play with, then I think it would be a bit much.

These players are getting the same choices YOU are getting in quests and they have a 50 / 50 chance of making the SAME choice as YOU.

The only difference is the player that consistantly chooses the same colour ends up getting a reward while the person that dosent is punished.

Result: You can either be a blue or red player.
Any inbetween and you are punishing yourself out of being able to use relics and alignment specific gear.

This does NOT just affect people that are neutral.
This affects people that HAVE chosen an alignment but they are making INTELLIGENT choices rather than simply choosing the option that has the right colour.

Diplomacy is not an acceptable solution and infact highlights the fundamental flaw of the system. BW have setup a game which offers railroaded morality choices which are more than often stuck into an A / B situation.

Morality does not work like this in practice and can extend into far bigger acts.

This is the whole reason the saying "Ends justify the means" exist. The morality implication is your willing to use extreme measures inorder to reach your endgoal.

That works for a Sith saving people inorder to use them later or a Jedi that willingly works with a villain to save lives.

The major problem with TOR and ALL BW games is their choices require you to be psychic because your on a railroaded trip and you have to guess wether or not BW will actually play out the dynamic of letting someone save someone only to screw them over later.

Sith Inquisitors should be livid with this system because this class gets shafted with choices being either homocidal maniac or Jesus incarnate.

Guess what: Sometimes being Jesus incarnate lets you get away with horrific acts.
History proves this and the very character this class is modeled after ACTUALLY DID DO THIS.
Well said BTW.

personally i hate this system. My character is darkside II but i have a lot of light side points too because i do not make darkside decisions when i know clearly my character wouldn't make that decision. I am punished by not being able to use darkside 3 gear because i had the audacity to make complex choices.

Well its not that hard to go into the files, and remove the Dark or Light requirement on these relics BW.

Get the intern on that and they'll have it done by noon.

The relic system would be far more interesting if relics became available for making specific choices.

I.E
Relic 1 becomes available if you save person X
Relic 2 becomes available if you kill person Y

That way your ACTUAL choices are being rewarded and it isnt tied to the actual alignment system.

The alignment system would be more sensible as a reaction metre. Certain NPCs will only interact with you if you meet the correct alignment amount. Same with missions.

Your not going to give a kill mission to someone that consistantly refuses to kill or vice versa. A Jedi isnt going to be happy speaking to a Trooper that goes around committing genocide on whim.

Making certain outfits available based on alignment is far more reasonable since that remains largely cosmetic. The problem is alignment should not be offering ACTUAL gameplay advantages without options being available for ALL possible alignments.

I'm sure you are working on it Bioware, but I will hit level 50 before you finish
Agreed. Neutral should be recognized as an alignment choice too for specific items.

What is the point of of implementing neutral classes like Smuggler and Bounty Hunter (don't care about light/dark, just do a job for credits) and not implementing a system that rewards them for maintaining neutrality?

Yeah, just type "Of Balance" at the end of all the relics and add in overall alignment requirements. Done.

Gross oversimplification? I think not!

Hahaha, yeah!

If I was a blind clicker on the light or dark icons, then heck, I'd be reveling in the wondrous relic and gear choices right now. But woops... my character has a deeper personality. Maybe it's because he doesn't use an iPhone.
Sad to see after all these years... the same old QoL bugs exist, and nothing has changed for the better.
Way to go AAA developers!
