What SWTOR does that I love is have a massive, epic feel, which they can do a lot with as time goes on, I suspect I will be a long time SWTOR player, even if its on a casual level. as long as I can PVP in GW2 its all gravy.
I agree..

Guess i'll be looking for another MMO for skill based PvP.

Let these E-Sport kiddies think they are actually good just because they have full PvP gear on and can kill you in 3 hits, when it takes you 5 hits b/c your gear is worse.

People are delusional i guess.. Glad to see there's at least some common sense people out there however.

Bio ware is attempting a fix with a 50's only bracket which will help with anyone non pvp geared from being absolutely annihilated. However the pvp gear's only real bonus is pvp damage not pvp defense. So they still take the same amount of damage as Someone in there 50 pve gear. If your not level 50 then don't take shame in being killed by someone who's put more time into the game and therefore 99% of the time having a stat/gear advantage. Alot of QQ I see is a level 35 or 40 wondering why they are getting 4 shot by a 50, the obvious answer is you don't have all your skills and bolster still doesn't let you reach a level 50's full stats.

Since all gamers should have the same gear in game, should they all have the same class, spec, computer, internet speed, keyboard, and key bindings?

In order to be entirely skill based we all need to play at the same time of day, in the same mood, and at the same temperature as each other too. etc etc etc.

Athletes don't all wear the same shoes so I guess even your favorite sporting event is not skill based.

People want variety. Variety makes equality impossible.

(.1*GEAR)+(.3*SKILL)+(.6*TEAM) = Game Outcome.

Just drop the "skill" word around this game since it is lvl based and gear based game. One finger will always loose agenst two fingers since whole bottom feat bar goes on cool down when one button is pressed. Year is 2012 and we still have mmo with this one press whole bar goes on cool down handicap system in other words mainstream mmo...

????

So you want a game where you can simultaneously use all of your abilities? Everyone would get one shotted...

I guess you can pat your head, rub your belly, eat, pay your bills, and write an essay at the same time. Impressive.

Thank goodness there are actually people (like the OP) who will challenge the status quo.

All i'm hearing from the naysayers is, "Well, this is how it's always been done...so this is how it should always be. Go play another game if you don't like it. Blah, blah, blah."

You do realize people are entitled to post their concerns and suggest ways to improve the gameplay experience, right?

The OP raises a valid issue. Just because the gear grind system has been used before doesn't necessarily make it the best one available. Gear grind systems are old and stale.

Continuously chasing the carrot stick is not something i want to do anymore. It's been beaten to death in WoW and other games i'm sure. It makes the game feel like work. It gives genuine disadvantages to newbies and fresh max level characters, creating a gear gap. Finally, it creates a system where gear is more important than player skill. That's not what any game should be about, whether it's an RPG, FPS, or a sports game.

MMOs are all about gear because that keeps people subscribed. If all the scrubs know they will never have a chance to outgear their opponents and win through that they won't stay subbed because why would they? They'll never be able to win.

The fantasy that one day you too will have good gear and be able to roll people despite sucking is what keeps people on the treadmill.

It is a lot like having low taxes for rich people, incidentally. Poor people support them because they have a fantasy that some day they'll be rich too. It hardly ever happens - just like people hardly ever catch up to their overgeared peers - but the fantasy is what matters.
