My fps is around 60 on 1080p aswell, everything to max (tree quality to 70% as the only thing) AA and VSync enabled through ini.

Core i7 930 @ 3.4 ghz with Hyper 212+ (I do get high temps on CPU with this game, but since I know what I'm doing they never exceed 75 Celcius, even at 100% load for hours)

480 GTX (with Accelero cooling) no OC atm , since the game doesn't need it to run fluidly and it's the only one I'm playing atm. avg. 60 Celcius with this game almost 70 though, when running at a pretty decent OC.

If anyone should be curious.

Unfortunately, nobody. Blizzard is the only one it seems that truly understands MMO's. Looking forward to Titan.

So MMO's are suppose to be about standing around in one city wearing and outfit that makes you look like a Fabulous Pirate waiting for your Dungeon to pop?

No wonder MMO's are a dying genre.
No one hates Star Wars as much as "Star Wars fans"

From a hardware support standpoint however, the engine is quite embarrassing though. We're in 2011. Simultaneous multi-threading debuted in consumer processors in 2002. Dual cores have been around in consumer products since 2005. Either way you look at it, 9 years or 6, it's just plain bad. That's a terribly long time in the tech world. Unfortunately, it's a giant plague in the software industry, and gaming industry in particular.

DirectX 10 has been around since 2006. There's no support for taking advantage of the aforementioned API, which happens to be more efficient. DirectX 11, which offers around a 50% performance improvement over DX9 at the same graphical settings, has been around 2009. Now, I believe Bioware has talked about potentially adding support for these in the future, and I very, very much would like it if they did. But right now, it's not here. There are performance issues abound, and a lot of these would be alleviated if the HeroEngine was remotely compliant with industry standards that have been around for years.

Now, I'm not blaming Bioware for this. I'm simply saying from a technical standpoint, this engine sucks. When the HeroEngine gets multithreading support in the future, I hope it makes its way to TOR in a timely manner.
Just a heads up but about 35% of the PC market still uses windows XP which has no support for dx10 or 11. That might of factored a bit into their decision to hold off on switching to the newer versions of DX.

This does not mean however that it will be fixed, the whole animation style and flow from one move to another is quite possibly an active design decision made around the game's aesthetics. What could happen here is that some moves will interrupt animations (primarily interrupts and other off-GCD abilities) and others won't - but we shall have to see BioWare's response when it comes.
That's what I understood. Besides the important ability (kick and other interrupts) can be fired even when the animation of another ability's ability is currently playing.

2) The GFX in this game are, like WoW, highly stylised. This is a design decision modelled on the animated series and has most likely been made to allow the GFX to run smoothly on lower end systems with as little loss of quality as possible. On a personal note: I really do quite like the art style.
I like the art style too... and I, once again agree. It seems more like a design decision then a limitation of the engine, but then again I have no experience with the Hero engine(not a game dev here, just a software engineering student in his final semester).

3) Memory leaks: can and will be fixed eventually, see point 1.
Memory leak happens but I saw worse cases (Battletech anyone?)

4) GFX are not the be-all and end-all of the reasons to choose a game engine. Server architecture, network useage, asset pipeline, development tools and a whole slew of other factors need to be assessed. If you think BioWare chose the Hero Engine based purely on a sales pitch of "Hey we can all play together in a big sandbox to make a game!" then you are being, quite frankly, ignorant. Did a little test the other day, in 10 hours of constant gameplay the network useage added up to just under 125Mb combined upstream and downstream, this alone is a remarkable figure! It worked out averaging 1.4kBps down and 600Bps up over the play session, so theoretically (discounting other issues related to the hardware) you could play this game on a 56.6k modem.
I tough as much, unless the Hero engine was forced upon the devs by the higher ups (which can happen in other spheres... I don't know how the buzword effect affects game developpers).

But, as with all MMORPG's since time began, when there is a public forum to discuss the game there will be people ringing the death knell and saying the game is doomed, the engine sucks and worst "fix it now or I will quit". You know what, for the good of the game and the community why don't you save your post and sod off. Leave the game to those of us that want to play the game and have fun!
THIS.

I find it funny that some people say :"This game will fail because there's no server forums!". Server forums are usually frequented by troll like individuals, it's hard to find actual information in them.

Hero engine is a good engine for MMO development.

What baffles me about TOR, however, is that they aren't using many of the great features that come with the hero engine, like the excellent character morphing system for the character creator (why the heck does TOR use such a stripped down version with premade parts instead will baffle me forever) or chat bubbles.

The issues I have with the player models have more to do with the insane amount of clipping on some characters/gear and as such with the gear/character models than with the engine.

If you're expecting to play a Crysis looking MMO, yeah well,...I don't know what to say really.

Like the guy said earlier EVERY MMO has posts on their public forum saying the game engine sucks and basically everything sucks about the game. You can even find these posts on the WOW forums. The only difference is Blizzard has a tendency to delete/ban people for creating those posts while bioware allows those posts to continue..
