Sadly that's not what that patch note means. Before I got my hopes up I figured I'd check the feedback from the PTS where the patch is already deployed and according to those who logged onto the PTS to check, the high textures have not been fixed - it's the same as before.

I think what they fixed is the client_settings.ini file not showing a lot of the graphics option until you actively start changing them ingame (by default this ini file is almost empty - a lot of the settings are only added when you change the value of them ingame).

This issue is probably the cause of the bug where people are getting terrible performance on the default "Low Settings", because the game seems to be displaying different settings than it's actually running. It certainly fits the description of the patch note.

Hello evr1=). Just tested new "patch". Nothing new. But now I can actually see a texture line in ini.! Low textures is "TextureQuality = 1", while medium is "TextureQuality = 0". It seems that Bioware just mocks at us! Cos "1" for low, "0" for higher setting?!? Where is your logic then.... So I may be an idiot but tried "2", "3", lol even "-1" and "-2", after almost getting a heartattack from da "view", I finally gave up... So Devs PLEASE give us this magical number! I have good rig and easily afford high textures, so after paying you 80$ I quite deserve high quality and a little lag maybe

Alright, now I am upset. Patch 1.0.2 did nothing to fix this issue. Bioware now posts the following in their known issues:

"Upon launch, graphics preferences will always display as "Low" even if actual in-game settings are higher due to automatic preference detection.

Workaround: Individual preferences will display properly once modified and saved."

The above does not seem to help or even refer to the problem we are all experiencing. So, I will reiterate it: There are no high res textures outside of cutscenes.

TO BIOWARE:

All you have to do is report this issue in your "Known In-Game Issues" thread, and I will stop bumping posts. Until this happens, I can only assume that you are ignoring this issue or simply do not have a handle on what your customers are experiencing. Furthermore, a simple response buried in a thread will not suffice. I need to see that you are seriously addressing this issue. I need to see it listed here: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=5533 or in a future known issues thread. A list of threads detailing the high res textures issue can be found here: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=91723

Thank you.

Thank you.
They already have stated that they know it's an issue, it was just on the last page of this thread for christ's sake. I want it fixed too, but being a baby about it isn't going to help. This isn't necessarily an easy fix, and they'll roll it out when it's ready.

How dare you call me a baby? Babies lack the command of grammar and punctuation that I demonstrate.

Yeah, I know they addressed the issue. However, there is a difference between a Bioware CS monkey dropping a line in a thread or a dev simply stating it is a bug in one line posted somewhere... and putting it up in the Known In-Game Issues thread. Unless it is put up there, I don't care much what any single, "official" individual states. Unless it is in the known issues thread, afaik, they are not working on it.

I am a bit pissed that this game was released looking this bad. And yes, this is just my opinion, but it is one shared by many paying customers.

If your response is to suck it up and wait or that it isn't a big issue, THEN THIS THREAD IS NOT FOR YOU. Please go away. We do not care that you are willing to settle. We were sold on a product that did not deliver as the marketing promised (screens, videos); we were given expectations that were not met; moreover, we paid more than most AAA products for the letdown.

For those who still just don't get it, please allow me to provide an analogy:
I drive a Corolla, but I hate how little muscle it has. I see a Corvette for sale. I see the nice, V-8 engine in the pics. I pay for it, and find it under performs. I look under the hood find a tiny 4-cylinder, and now I am pissed. However, when I get upset, tons of Chevy fans shout back that I should be happy, because the car runs well. Friggin-A, my Corolla ran just fine. I paid for the upgraded performance, and, by god, I want what I paid for. The Corvette is SWTOR. The Corolla is WoW/GW/anything else besides Rift, which looks and feels like a modern MMO should (however, story, class-structure, and itemization are horrible).

texture problem not mentioned in the upcoming patches either !!

starting to think that BW thinks this is a small problem next to the other bugs !!

Hi everyone, my problem is certainly different. Instead of having medium quality textures even on high setting I have LOW textures everywhere, and they take several seconds to update to medium.

BUT, half the time, the textures won't update and stay at low (I mean visually, not in settings as I'm on High settings) OR WORSE, they are on medium, and get downgraded to low during cutscenes

I mean, what is this ? It was fine two day ago, but today's patch RE-BROKE my graphics, and playing with the low-blurry textures is an immersion-breaker really

The worst of this, is it seems not many people are experiencing this issue

I don't care about real "high" textures, I just wanna have MEDIUM ffs permanently, not flipping and poping sometimes or reverting to low when they wanna piss me off 'during cutscenes for eg.)

That seems to be an unrelated bug, but one I've seen before in other games (and this one has quite a few sufferers as well, so you're not alone) - just out of curiosity, do you run a 32-bit Operating System?

In other games where I've seen this it was often the result of the game forcing texture compression (forcibly lowering the texture resolution no matter what settings you're using) when the game gets very low on memory - and it often seems to happen on systems with a 32-bit OS due to the inherent memory limitations on 32-bit (less memory available per application as well as less total memory recognized by the system).

The other possibility is that it could be related to graphics cards with lower amounts of VRAM (the fast graphics memory on your graphics card). A lot of somewhat older cards have only 512mb or less, so if the game is seeing that as a problem it might doing the texture compression to prevent performance issues.

The game just seems to take a very "i know better than you what settings you should be running" attitude - and the saddest part is, it doesn't seem to be working very well at all.

do you have any "forced" settings in your Nvidia or ATI control panel ?, if so you should try to reset them after the patch.

Atleast it's a change from the Medium graphics problem

First of all...I got in last night, plus I was in the beta....I played and played and played.....great game....but I am one of the people that really has a problem with bad graphics...for me it can be game breaking.

And to make things clear....I like the art stile and the models, so it's not a question about that.

I forgot to take some screenshots of what I’m talking about, but it's old news to many of you.

Some of the textures are ok I guess, but when you get close to a rock or a ship or a building, textures look really fuzzy and washed out...and no..iI'm not looking at it with a magnifier..it's easy to see the low quality.

This is something you would expect from a game from 2000-2004 (Texture wise).

I just don’t get it. Yes they want everyone to be able to play the game, but what about the rest of us.

It's like saying... "Not all can buy a great looking sports car, so now people can only buy small cheep a** cars".....that’s fine...but what if someone wanted to buy that sports car..should he not have the option ?

If SWTOR had a ULTRA option in graphics settings....then we could use that, and people with problems could turn it down. At middle settings the game would look like it does now ??

I love the game, but graphics are just ..... OLD.

Hope this will change in a Patch...even AA and AF would be a big help (Yes you can turn it on in the .ini file...but still)

Sorry for the rant...just think it's crazy thinking from a company like BioWare

Am i really the only one... (Expecting a lot of short posts saying..."YES")

Any way....see you in game
Im one of those just like u.Graphics are game breaking for me too.
The art style is fine but the textures as u mentioned on rocks etc are ridiculous.
Those kind of textures existed in some games back in 2004.
And if it was not that enough the performance of the game fps wise is horrible as wel.
Some people that are saying the textures are looking good they probably playing on 1024x768 resolutions but for people just like us that are playing on 1920x1080 on uber rigs those kind of textures and fps are simply ridiculous game breakers and reasons to start searching for a new mmo or game.
For my 980x 580 sli 12 gigs of ram i was supposed to play this game at 120 fps without a single drop.Guess what i cant.
While i play other games that have 100 times more heavy graphics physics etc at 80-120 this game drives me crazy with such awful performance.
I m just gonna say that in balmora i reach 38 fps.Yes u heard right such is the bad engine of the game.Metro 2033 which has god like graphics rarely falls at 45-60 with an average fps at 80-120
Fail Is Good
