The assassins have a tanking tree so they should be able to tank. They can't tank if they don't use that tree, where as we can tank with all 3 trees, it's just that our Immortal tree is the best one for tanking.

Assassins are an avoidance tank where as we're a mitigation tank. The assassin will be the better choice on some fights, we'll be the better choice on others.

They tank much like DKs from WoW.

You aren't losing threat because of the class. You are losing threat because of a combination of a lack of experience combined with crappy gear. I can confirm as a fact that geared Juggernauts at lvl 50 are easily capable of holding threat and are fine tanks.

I run with a BH buddy who is in all questing greens and I pull aggro off of him all the time, does that mean Powertech is underpowered? You seem to think Powertech is hopelessly overpowered.

My Powertech and my Jugg are both still in their mid-20's (alts), but I can relate to OP.

Seems like Powertechs get all their tanking tools pretty early on and (judging from the amount of skills I see on my trainers and talent tree) suffer from less bloat and constantly having to fight the GCD to keep up tanking essentials.

I also find their playstyle and range a lot more convenient for flashpoints. The only thing a bit lacking with the Powertech is their defensive cooldowns, but compared to the convenience of tanking on a Powertech, that seems like a petty one-up for the Jugg.

It may seem like a petty one-up, until you start raiding lol.

I'm a level 47 juggernaut. Honestly i don't see the problems you guys are having.
The only complaint i would have is lack of targets target on the mobs, but that is system issue. It's sometimes difficult to spot the mob in the blob that is hitting someone else.
Other than that, i feel i have all the tools i need in order to control the flow of aggro. There is no need to hug the aggro all for yourself, you can spread the love around for a couple of hits. It keeps the dps on their toes . And i certainly haven't had any issues in controlling aggro versus other tanks.

Now for us, our top tier tank tree talent is a massive *********** swing that *will* ruin the **** of anything it happens to hit. On top of that, the two talents immediately preceding it improve both threat generation (via more rage from Soresu) and survivability. What does PT get? 10% more shield chance (which is nice, but not nearly as key as doubling the rage gen on damage in Soresu, or increasing the duration of Endure Pain by 50%).

Hence, the point of *my* post is that Immortal end-tree talents provide a MUCH bigger gain for Jugs than Shield Tech end-tree talents provide for Powertechs. Which is another way of saying hit 50 before you make a final judgement.
I think the problem players have is that they have to wait until end game to feel like their class is actually doing something. Some people can breeze through the game without thinking about it, others are turned off if they're not feeling the "fun" as they level. at least to me, that is as important, or more important than the end game. It may as well not be there if one doesn't feel motivation to see the class through.

Assassins and Shadows seem to have even less defensive cooldowns than the Powertech, but from all reports I've read, they're fine at raid tanking.

I won't deny that defensive cooldowns have their place and are extremely useful (if a bit situational), but it's just not a fun mechanic to design a class around. Being a one-trick pony is no fun.

You have several 10m abilities, including Force Scream (which you should be spamming anyways to proc Sonic Barrier) to use while you walk back to the mob. For bosses that do it a lot, put your back to a wall like in every other MMO.
