That about sums everything up.
3% is significant?

You ever skip a talent that adds 3% main stat?

Edit-----

Regardless of this, being a computer scientist is also being a philosopher of sorts.

It's not right to have a PvP player to get worse PvP gear PvPing and have to PvE to be better in PvP.

PvP healers would come out quite a bit better off i would guess, due to the trauma debuff... but let's assume that both healers are using a lightsaber which has 575 force (just a guess number here, i don't play a healer). and that their willpower was equal to the strength given in the first post.

note the last part here is the trauma debuff: *(1-0.3)
pvp healer using benevolence:
Min = 1.75 * 278.65 + 0.078 * 7085 * (1 - 0.3 + 0.1388) = 951.18
Max = 1.75 * 278.65 + 0.098 * 7085 * (1 - 0.3 + 0.1388) = 1070.04

pve healer using benevolence:
Min = 1.75 * 303.05 + 0.078 * 7085 * (1 - 0.3) = 917.18
Max = 1.75 * 303.05 + 0.098 * 7085 * (1 - 0.3) = 1016.37

so yeah, pvp healers are better off, but (with this spell at least) only marginally so.

i agree, in an ideal world both would have the same stats and be equally difficult to obtain. however that's not the case, but as you can clearly see, expertise is a pretty huge deal here, without it things would be largely normalised and while yes pve would be slightly better it would be far from the trouble that currently exists.

much of the problems with pvp at the moment stem from this one stat. how many posts have we seen so far of "things were fun before people hit 50", well... the difference between 49 and 50 is nothing.... except the ability to wear expertise gear right?

and again, the numbers show that without expertise a level 10 would probably still lose to a level 50, but at least the margin would be small enough that a skilled 10 would at least stand a chance. and that's what this is all about:
the current state of the game is one where those with ONE STAT win the game, and those who don't have that ONE STAT will consistantly lose.

the most ironic thing about all of this?
the only people who want to keep expertise, are the ones who claim to want fair fights with no advantages... except the advantages they already have.

Great OP, and I have been warning BioWare for months (joined beta in July 2011) that Expertise would break PvP, and it certainly has for players that are under level 50. If the goal of introducing Expertise is to give people with full PvP gear a 10% bonus over those in full PvE gear (which by your calcs is pretty damn close), but NOT make it broken for lower level characters, I think the resolution lies in bolstering.

Instead of having a PvP stat, you have a PvP set bonus. Depending on how many PvP items you have in that set (and by PvP items, I include all level 20, 40, and 50 gear) you get an X% bonus to all your stats in the bolster equation. For instance, a person in all level 20 PvP gear would get a 3% bonus to bolster, a player in level 40 PvP gear would get a 6% bolster, and so on so that the top tier PvP gear gives you a 10% bonus to bolster.

either get rid of it completely or itemise pvp gear with expertise all the way from rank 10 to 50.

I fail to see the issue, 10% or a 200 spread on damage for players in the BEST PvP gear does not make them untouchable at all..

Premades and rolling with guildies communicating over mic's does....

Level 10's won't compete with 30+ simply because they lack the diverse toolbox of those higher than them. Should Bioware also grant them a full PvP spec tree and unlock all their abilities when entering PvP?

That is by far a much larger problem than a 200 damage difference.

Again the gear limitations are laughable compared to the ability difference. I know I went into battlegrounds trying to help in the ways I could as I was leveling and things changed now that I can have a pvp centric spec and all my abilities. My role grew and changed as my character did.

Expertise is not a reason to cry yet, maybe when the creep hits 25-50%, but until then we are a ways off of gear tears.

I had a long long discussion about this on some other thread and there is no search feature, and I doubt you can access my userpage to find it because that's broken too probably...

Getting expertise is not hard.

At level 34 there is a weapon with expertise +6 in one of the mods.

So just keep buying the gun, take out the mod, and put it in your armor.

I did not actually try this but I only bought the gun once so far. I will try it soon probably.

WAIT WAIT...

So your saying that the gear you get as a reward for PVP helps you to PVP better than the gear you get as a reward from PVE and the PVE gear helps you PVE better than the PVP gear??

****!!!!
