And Blizzard had already brought out huge hits in the Warcraft series, the Starcraft series and the Diablo series. They do not make bad games, hence it had a huge hit straight away, because the playerbase KNEW it would be good. And in a long-term, it's correct, WoW has been and still is a good game. Several of those games you mentioned were in fact obscenely bad.

You also need to take into account that Blizzard got VERY lucky. They released the game at a time when broadband had been brought to the masses, when people were looking to take gaming to the next level and when more and more people were getting interested in MMOs.

Most importantly however, the MMO community were a different breed altogether. If WoW had released today with all it's bugs, server issues, client crashes and general annoyances it would have been slaughtered by the masses and wouldn't have stood a chance.

In 2004, the MMO market was full of very different people who were far more understanding, forgiving, and mature. The reason WoW went on to be a decent game is because the players allowed Blizzard the time to get it right.
Space, is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly hugely mindbogglingly big it is. I mean you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space...

I never say wow is bad game as matter of fact I am wow player and I still have 2 wow accounts sub.

I do admit the wow is going to the direction I don't like but I don't post on forum and complain about it.

As a guy who played Ultima Online from 1998 to 200, SWG from 2003 to 2005, WOW from 2005 to present while also plaied everyquest1/2, final fantasy 11, lineage 1/ 2, guidlwar, vanguard saga of heroic, AOC, pirvate of burning sea, city of hero, LOTOR ..etc for short peroid of time. I know if i dont like the game or bored of it I will just move on.

There is better place out there.

You know no matter how much you write the topic it is all boil down to people trolling and QQuing in the General topic thread. It become so bad that it is not funny.

It is sad that people out right hate the game or decide to troll the general discussion because of this 3 reasons.

1) it is not Kotor 3
2) it is not WoW
3) it is WoW in space

If you don't like it FINE just say so people are mature enough to accept that but for everybody else sanity and mine stop demeaning people who actually like the game or categorize them according to your own standard.

I've played MMO before the word MMORPG even exited (MUD or Mush) I played Ultima Online, Lineage 1 & 2 Everquest 1 & 2, DAoC, WoW, DDO, Lord of the rings Online, Phantasy Star Online even SW: Galaxies & Conan and a few other "FREE MMORPG" So far aside Ultima Online and Phantasy Star Online no one them got my attention other then SW:TOR and I LIKE the game very much.

oh and BTW looking at complaints on the forum is no way indication on a game subcription base because seriously who would want to come here to get a free headache on all the hate threads? SW:TOR could still loose Half of the Million subcription they have now and still make a profit and have a very sucessfull game.

Bioware so far have been fast on adressibng bugs and remember there is no EASY button to fix bugs.. Just look and Skyrim it is STILL RIDDLED with game breaking bugs and people still play it even after 2 months the games been out.

Have you been to WoW's Forum? It is filled with vitriol, hatred, and doomsayers. Especially right after a patch.

Are you just trolling?

I wish it was wow in space. By the looks of it, it's wow version 0.6.

So complaints mean failure? Last I checked the WoW forums have looked just like this for the last 7 years.

That aside, there are many "season MMO players" as you put it that are loving this game. It's better at launch than most have been and will only improve with time, as most do. Most of the complainers want this game to compare even up to WoW, as it stands today, right at launch. That's not hos MMOs work. Or in the very least no one has come even close to pulling it off thus far.

Some thing bothers me is that if you don't like the game why do you need to post on forum? If you don't like it, you UN-install the game, remove swtor website from your browser and life goes on.

People keep protest it on the forum, if them really hate and want to stop other people play it than should protest in front gamestop/ebgames ,bestbuy ..etc
