So I'm on Voss, in Serenity Valley... surrounded by war and AA guns...

Sounds familiar...

There are certain pop culture reference we like

(For an in-universe culture references, I liked the bounty hunter line up with a Darth briefing them on one of the ships in the Imperial fleet)

Not sure it's really meant to be a reference. Serenity is a word. It's used in a lot of things. War and AA guns are also somewhat of a theme, considering there is a galaxy-wide war going on, and the galaxy centers around space flight.

They could have done it on purpose, for sure. However it could also just have happened to work out that way.

Someone posted an NPC screenshot a couple of days ago...the NPCs name was an anagram of Lara Croft.

"Serenity Valley" is explicitly the name of the valley where the last battle of the Unification War between the Alliance and Independents took place in Firefly though. It's why Reynolds named the ship Serenity (Firefly is her class).

Yeah but Firefly and Joss Whedon suck.

There's a much more glaring nod to Firefly in the game. Well to the movie Serenity anyway.

Do tell, use spoiler tags if needed.
