Bioware does not want us to run FPs much I guess

Sometimes I feel like the only person in this game who played WoW before they implemented their now-infamous LFG tool. You know, back when people had to ask in /4 for a group and occasionally recognize on their own that there were not enough interested people at that moment to get a party together.

Kind of like SWTOR is now.

Guess what? It's not so bad. Yes, there needs to be an official "LFG" channel, and yes, a better LFG system that allows you to flag yourself for specific Flashpoints and roles needs to be implemented. However, the absolute last thing we need is an automated group-forming tool that doesn't require people to communicate with each other. As WoW has proven, such things destroy communities as people start viewing fellow players as little more than tools to move them forward on the treadmill.

I have a good feeling they will implement a tool to help find Flashpoints soon. I'm not talking about a dungeon finder, I'm talking about maybe like a cross-planet chat or something specifically designed for people looking for a group.
The SWTOR forums are more fun than the actual game...That says a lot.

Getting a group for 4man quests is what I have found the most difficult. I am one of these guys who has to finish up every quest in an area before moving on so has taken some work to get groups going. Atm I am finishing up the last of the Balmorra bonus series and lots of 4mans, about five or so have unlocked which I can imagine will take alot of work to find people for next time I log to play. Quests like these also are not eligable for everyone which makes it even harder.

But finding people for flashpoints is no problem whatsoever. It just takes alittle bit of work. Most people are lazy though and if you want to get anything done the only way is to do the work yourself. Don't rely on other people in the group doing any effort to find someone to join. Also you need to move quickly since many will leave if they don't get a full group served to them in 10min or so. Those are just the cold truths.

The steps I take to form instance groups in this game is:

*Do a search on all the people with LFG comment, sort them after lvl.
*Write a polite message, copy and paste it. Send it to all of them who are in the right lvl range.

At this point at least 1 guy will join and next step then is to ask in general. People are more likely to join if they see half a full group. Next step(because you will not get a full group at this point most likely):

*write an even more polite message, excusing youself for disturbing etc copy and send it to a bunch of people without a LFG comment.

Yes some find it annoying to get asked if they would like to join an instance when they haven't put a LFG comment on themselves. I usually put something along the lines of "Sorry to disturb, no need to reply if not interested" in my paste message so I will not cause someone to feel obligated to take time and respond.

All this takes about 15min max I would guess, then it is ofc some more time to get everyone together in the instnace in question. A " WoW warlock summoning system" would be a great addition.

I start off in the General Channel: DPS LFG Taral V

I spam the channel for a few mins and get another DPS to join, ok.

I flag myself with the super awesome LFG flag and make a note

I check the /who to see if anyone is LFG, 2 people with just "LFG" in the note and way under or over my level

I check my friends list, most people have either moved past it or can't/don't want to join

I asked in my guild, same situation as my friends list

I spam the channels some more, tried the Fleet and a few level appropriate planets

I spam the channels some more, other DPS get bored and leaves

I spam the channels some more, check the who list, ask in guild again.

I spam the channels some more

Is this the awesome tight friendly and fun community I am hearing so much about? Is this what it means to be social?

I ended up calling it quits after about an hour.
sorry to hear you are having trouble finding groups. I guess I have been lucky and have not really run into this. I admit if i am playing in the wee hours of the morning for an East coast server I something have to wait a bit but usually no more than 10 minutes even then. Which considering I am talking around 4 am server time thats not to bad a wait
Now Minsc is in charge SWORDS FOR EVERYONE!

This is pretty much how grouping was in WoW until they added the dungeon finder. Hopefully BioWare will add one soon. People will cry that it kills the community but spamming chat for hours trying to find a group isn't community.

That's the problem with pro-LFG tool people. The only choices they see are a tool, or spamming the general chat channels. It never occurs to them to join a good guild, or actually talk to people and make friends in the game with similar interests.

I don't feel bad for you people at all.

WoW's LFG tool is also cross-server, isn't it?

So make the same tool but just don't make it cross-server.

Because no matter how nostalgic you are about the good old days of spamming LFG, it doesn't change the fact that I can spam Imp Fleet for an hour LFG for Athiss and never get one. Maybe if there was some sort of LFG chat channel that was server-wide... but then I don't know if BW is up to that kind of coding challenge or not.

I pity the anti-LFG people. They can't get any socializing outside so they have to pretend to be a hippy community by spamming /1.

If you want to play dress-up with other carebears go play Gaia or something.

Case in point. This is a fighting game, not a dating sim.

How about they give us a lfg tool and you just don't use it if you don't want to? That way everyone wins. But you don't want everyone to win, do you? You want everyone to play what you consider the right way to play, the way you play, and if they don't enjoy it then screw them, right? I hate people like you.

I'm in a guild with 46 players. They span the entire spectrum of levels, from 10 to 50. Finding a group with them is hit-or-miss. I could join another guild but, then again, selecting a guild only for something like flashpoints is pretty self-centered, right? I didn't join my guild only for "what can they do for me."
