Nerf sage/sorc dev response

The closed beta forums had this same sort of crying. The Devs then stated that the sage/sorc was right where they wanted it to be in terms of strength, going on to say that in terms of balance other classes would be brought up to par.

In my opinion, knight/warrior simply have a greater learning curve. Most of the tears here are from day 1 sent/Mara players.

I think most of the tears are actually because of how strong sage/sorc are at lower levels (level 20 or lower). They have most of their pvp utility skills by then. They have sprint, force dash, bubble, their 8 second mez, their 4 second stun, their knockback, a decent ranged snare, an interrupt, and decent damage and off-healing. Other classes get their pvp oriented abilities much later (specifically the jedi knight and scrapper scoundrel).

Also, there's a couple other reasons for their perceived strength:

  1. There's tons of inquisitors right now because people find casting lightning alluring (also to RP a ****** like Palpatine) so statistically there's a higher total number of skilled players playing the inquisitor compared to other classes. People in turn blame the class and don't realize it's the player here killing them. 90% of the inquisitors i see in warzones are god awful and barely put out more than 60k total output compared to the good ones doing 300k+.
  2. The empire side is way overpopulated and the lightning animations are extremely easy to identify, so people notice it more often when they die to a sorc compared to say a sniper from 35 yards away with no tracer animations at all.
  3. The sorc has a lower skillcap than some of the other classes so it's significantly easier to master. Once people get better at the other classes, the sorc will seem less powerful in comparison because it has little room to grow since it's so easy to master.
  4. Ranged classes dominate melee classes on certain maps (specifically hutball) and since the empire side is way overpopulated, the majority of people get nothing but hutball so ranged classes seem more powerful than they would be on the other maps.

Wall of text, but an accurate wall of text. A lot of these factors contribute to inquisitors seemingly being overpowered.

Forgot to mention, that Sorcs are hard countered by melee classes, and the non-stealth melee classes and the stealthed-scrapper suck until level 40+. So without those classes being strong enough at lower levels to keep sorcs in check, they can free cast and survive a lot better than they will at end-game pvp.
