Unbridled Rage Star Wars TLJ

Again, too many preconceived notions, expectations fans made that they basically demanded be met.

Honestly all this rage, it's ALL on the shoulders of the fans who over analyzed, overhyped and then didn't get exactly what they wanted on a point by point basis.

Now don't get me wrong. There are some legitimate griped about the movie, but overall, just a bunch of grown people having a child temper tantrum.

And that's all it is.

Forgot my headphones, so can't listen to this at work -- is this one of those videos that uncomfortably reinforce all the negative "basement dweller" and "nerd rage" stereotypes about Star Wars fans?

You know, one that makes you want to ask the dude to step outdoors into some sunlight just to take a breath and get some semblance of perspective.

Pretty much. I could only listen to a few minutes of it.

Ugh, that's a shame -- whenever I see one of those, my default reaction is to hope the guy is just doing a performance piece / parody. And then it always makes me a little sad inside to realize, again and again, that's usually not the case.

A few minutes is why you will never care to understand why others do not like it. You dan't want to hear it.

I listened to enough to understand what he was saying and doing. It was a poorly presented rage/rant. His points were not well-thought out or articulated well. It was just a juvenile, profanity-laced tirade.

He is, of course, entitled to his opinion. Just as I am entitled to not listen to or agree with his opinion.

yes but he has a British accent so he must be right!

I got to the part where he complains about the bombers with out knowing that there were Bombers in Empire or the fact that star wars space battles were always based on WW2 dogfights.

oh my... the guy has a 11 part series (each part 30mins) crituqiing Outlast. basement dweller to the extreme.

Even though I agree with some of his points - the fact is this: you can take every single SW movies and make these exact same rant videos.

All the SW movies are littered with ridiculous assumptions and plot holes the size of the grand canyon. See even though his rant may have some validity, it doesn't diminish the enjoyment factor of the TLJ one iota - the movie did what every other damn SW movie did: mainly, it provided entertainment, good action, funny humor and some interesting plot twist, even if presented in a bad way. But this is how all the rest of the SW movies are. So really I don't get why this guy is so mad at TLJ when all the other movies are just as bad tbh.

People take SW way too seriously. It was never meant to be this serious. Too many snowflakes with a microphone and audience these days.

I still enjoyed the movie, and this rant didn't change my opinion or enjoyment factor.

How can you say his points were not well thought out when you admit you didnt listen to the whole thing?

The vast majority of fans do like it. Luke is my all time favorite character, my favorite character in anything not just Star Wars, and I'm still a massive fan of this movie.

I can't see how you think this is true. Only people I see defending the films are anonymous accounts,

My rough estimate based on talking to people about is that 40% loved it, 30% hated it, and 30% thought "it's ok". Actually, I'd say that the most common comment from that last group is: "I liked it, but hated the casino part".

Well that and the space Leia Jesus part. Even people who loved the movie said that was just horribly done and stupid.

And they're all right. I have no idea what RJ was thinking with that. Even so, I could not let that bad scene ruin a good movie for me.

Anyone who needs to resort to profanity to make a point has no point to make

Um.. no. The profanity is mostly used humorously/sarcastically.

Ever see someone upset about something and curse while explaining it? As I can not use examples on this forum to demonstrate (for obvious reasons.) Using someones language to determine if they have a point or not is a cheap excuse to dismiss an opinion based strictly on vocabulary.

On an added note - we play a game based on slaughtering millions of people, killing thousands ourselves in the process. This game is based on a movie(s) that blows up entire worlds - yet dirty words offend people.

Luke's last words in the franchise was "See ya around kid" - before he ultimately died because of Kylo anyways. Or the fact that this is the first SW movie where 2 lightsabers never crossed.

Not sure how true it is but another rumor going around is that they did not tell Mark that Luke was going to die at the end. They did the CGI "robe drop" after he cut his last scene. Again, this is a rumor and not one I would be willing to put any money behind but I do find it interesting.

Mark's sudden change of heart after bashing the movie also tells me he was told to shut up. After all, he was very adamant about it. The guy spent the last 40 years believing in a totally different version of Luke (built around Lucas's vision) then he was allowed to portray on screen after the big mouse gained ownership.

To me, this movie was worse than the prequels.

Yeah... too many people enjoy free speech to say that they don't like something and to say they disagree with others opinions! We should really consider silencing people who have different opinions than ours! :(

That is the thing, these videos are not meant to change your mind, they are meant to express the opinions and reasons for the people that did not like it.

I will disagree that the stories in the other films were this bad - I will go as far as saying not even close.

That's . . . kind of a dumb rule to follow, IMO.

If you're making a point, you should certainly be mindful of whether your use of profanity (including when and how often you use it) undercuts whether people will take you seriously, but the same is true for any number of other choices -- your tone, using jargon, using adjectives and adverbs, choosing between simple words vs showing off your vocabulary, your degree of loquaciousness, etc. Profanity, like any other aspect of language, is a tool that can be useful or detrimental depending on the context.

That's just it. It's about knowing when and how to use it for effect. Just ranting and cursing everything in a blind rage is not a good way to get people to listen... if you even have a good point to make. But, face it, that was made for clicks and we, well, we clicked. Doesn't matter if we agree or not. The click was already clicked. :t_frown:

The people curious what the other side has to say will click and listen for the sarcasm and humor that it is. The video mostly uses sarcasm to point out obvious plot holes and/or issues (as seen by the creator.)

However, this video just like the movie itself is a great example of personal opinion.

On that note, per people watching the video, it's ratings per capita is better than TLJ lol.

95% of the people that watched it, liked it. :D

That makes some sense. Most people who watched it would have gone looking for something like that and not have clicked a link from some video game forum. So, of course they would like it.
