The Jedi Service Corps RP Project: a cross-server experiment

My dear apprentices, it has been clear to all of us true lore fans for some time that the Jedi Service Corps are the true heart and soul of the Jedi order. Knights and all that business are fairly boring. Service Corps members are the rock stars of the Force-wielding world -- this cannot be denied.

To celebrate the one true iconic mode of Jedi farmer in the Star Wars universe, I have decided to gauge interest in a cross-server RP project. What I would like to do is to create a directory of all Service Corp-themed guilds on the various RP servers to assist those wishing to engage in such roleplay but I'd also like to arrange some sort of mission prompts on a weekly or monthly basis.

By mission prompts, I mean something along the lines of "The agricultural division has issued a call for floral materials from Alderaan". All the guilds would be able to answer this call by collecting some amount of stackable grey items in the game... or maybe they would need to take screenshots of specific animals or buildings or organize academic calendars.

The point is, there would be something that would provide a touchstone for Service Corp RP across the servers and hopefully it would generate attention and draw in more RPers. Perhaps a guild would be able to win the weekly challenge -- or all participants might be encouraged to create a guild-blog that made public weekly achievements of the Service Corp.

I enjoy the Service Corp concept because it allows me to not be the one Jedi knight who saved the entire universe.

For those interested, it is possible to steal the T-7 droid during the early Tython quests without progressing through the quest chain. Once I found him the first time, I never turned him in and he functioned as a standard companion for running Esseles and whatnot. While I don't recommend that everyone should follow the path of abandoning the quest chain (no lightsaber and no spaceship) as the character was an alt I found it to be liberating.

This thread should be used for discussing possible directions this project can take and for expressing support or disapproval for the idea as a whole. I have only informally surveyed Service Corp players before, so I'm not sure how many of us are out there.

What are your thoughts?

I'd be all for this, like 100%. When I install 1.2 today, I am going to be making a Cyborg Knight, so this would be perfect for me! Only issue is... There's no Jedi Service Corps guild on Vrook Lamar to my knowledge...

If anyone's on Vrook Lamar and wants to try to start this up with me (preferably with a Jedi that's at least above 30, so I don't look like one of those guys who rolls an alt just to make a guild... >.>) PM me about it.

Yes, let's get the ball rolling! I have run into many players that are RPing Service Corps Jedi but I haven't seen any formal guilds yet. I've made <Jedi Service Corps> on LA for my alt but I assume other guilds must be out there.

I am just worried about interest/sheer number of Jedi on Vrook Lamar, that it wouldn't be enough to support a pure-Jedi guild, is all. But who knows, I will try for sure.

Are you saying you advanced your alt without doing the class quests? Can this even be done? Interesting idea.

Yes, it can be done. As Guildrum points out you would need to wait to get your ship, if you ever wanted to fly yourself to a planet instead of bumming a ride -- and you will never unlock your legacy name by using that character.

Here is what I did...

I made a Jedi Knight and began the Tython quests. On the quest to retrieve/sabotage the Flesh Raiders weapons, if I recall, you meet T7 in a cave and he escorts you back to the settlement.

When you return to the settlement, you are meant to hand him in to your Master, so that you quest solo again until near the end of the class chain on Tython. This is where I left the chain.

I took T7 with me and killed mobs until I reached 7. New quests like the Heroic: Chamber of Speech did not open up, even when level-appropriate. At 7, I boarded the shuttle and left for the fleet with T7. I was able to get Esseles at that level, and T7 acted as a normal companion, even when off-planet.

I ran Esseles using my training sword, sometimes with T7 and another player with companion, sometimes in a full group.

At 10 I was offered, and took, an Advanced class -- the medium armor fellow with the 2 lightsabers-- Sentinel? I only remember the Sith names. I got an off-hand lightsaber in my bag but could not equip it without a main hand lightsaber. I bought a cheap lightsaber from the GTN (it should be noted that they all seem to require Light/Dark I) and then I could duel-wield -- even though the Order had never given me a lightsaber.

I noticed today that I seem to be able to use Vibroswords, as well. Looking back, I might have tried using two of those, rather than the lightsabers.

I did PVP a bit with the training sword, but I did not enjoy it as much as with the lightsabers.

In the end, I got back on track with the class quests because I wanted my space ship. It is possible to level by doing space combat, PVP and farming instead of quests, but you need to decide at what point you wish to abandon the chain.

So, you could leave the Jedi quests immediately and play a Force sensitive swordsman who uses Vibroblades, or you can wait until you might steal your companion like I did, or until you are issued a companion, or until you get a ship. There is no advantage to doing any of this beyond thumbing your nose at the role of the Jedi.

What I may do next is make an alt who is a Teras Kasi master. I'd use a Smuggler-template to get stealth and cheap shot and then just add the special Punch and Jab PVP Legacy abilities.

I have heard that it might actually be impossible to get onto another player's ship without one of your own.

[Edit] Didn't think that you might not be able to group and go on another's ship. I don't think it would be a problem.

This idea is great! I'd consider promoting this in our small guild in Ajunta Pall. The guild is a group of friends and isn't Jedi Service Corp themed, per se, but I imagine we could create a subdivision of us for it.

I'd prefer monthly over weekly prompts. The reason being doing this x-server might introduce some lag, so having more than 1 weekend to do it would make it easier to keep up with (at least for me). Where do you think you'd post the prompts?

I wanted to throw a potential addition out there. How do you think this would work?

Give the prompts a lightside and darkside way to complete them. Tally up the responses. The attendees agree to help out the Empire if darkside wins or Republic if lightside wins. E.g. If you collect up medical items for the prompt, sell them (or something similar) at no profit on the appropriate GTN.
