New Classes

To answer the debate of the Justicars' allegiance, one can discern that they are the "tea-party" of the Republic. :D

Anyways, the ideas aforementioned are terrific, however, I find them too similar to classes presently available. A very appealing notion is being an android. It could be a completely different experience that hasn't been explored as both a new class and species (or model--if you will). Famous droids such as Guri, IG-88, HK-47, and C-3PX remove the notion of droids being quirky side kicks and comedic relief. Imagine this: Imperial scientists perfect an android replicant to infiltrate SIS or you're a Republic magna droid with a glitch and takes on their own personality. Possiblities are endless and would give variety to different droid models and classes that doesn't follow the archetypical model of the hero.

Rebel (Republic) - former citizen of Empire-controlled systems. Primarily uses rifles.

* Guerrilla - Specializes in traps (ala Hunters from WoW) and arsenal military attacks. Possible stealth AC.

* Star Fighter - Utilizes a variety of Orbital Strike/Flyby-like mechanics. Perhaps some acrobatic grappling hook movement mechanics.

Imperial Officer (Empire) - the guys in charge of the Star Destroyers. Primarily uses pistol(s).

* Droid Commander - Traps via smaller droids who kamikazi. Possible stealth AC.

* Admiral - like the Star Fighter above.

Honestly as much as people want teras kasi or nightsisters or whathaveyou, they wouldnt fit in. They dont exist in this timeline, and there's no role they could fill that any other class doesnt already cover. The latter is an issue for any new class, though.

The only class I can see being added right now is droid, for both factions, and droids would have to be limited to their own species as well.

I posted a big writeup a while back on how the droid class would work, not going to list it all out again, but AC options would make the most sense with Combat Droid (like an assassin or war droid) for the offensive/tanking AC, and Utility Droid (like a protocol droid or astromech unit) for the support/healing AC.

I'm actually starting to really like the idea of the Imperial Guard class for the Empire, but having a hard time coming up with a mirror class for the Republic, without being downright unoriginal and going with the Supreme Guard.

Droids would be fun to play as but I foresee them running into a roadblock with the whole romance issue unless BW changes their stance on this.

The only way I can see droid companions working wouldnt involve romance anyways - no organic individual is going to take orders from or sidekick to a droid, since (as far as I know) all organic beings in the star wars galaxy view themselves as superior to droids and other similar constructs.

Thus, all 5 of a droid player's companions would also have to be droids (and there's plenty of variety to support that - you can have a healing-focused utility droid, a tanking-focused war droid, a damage-focused assassin droid, so on and so forth with interrogation droids, probe droids, combat droids, protocol droids, and any other kind of droid you can name). So ultimately, there would be no romance issue, as there would be no romanceable companions.

I'd Like to see/Suggest for the Empire the "Imperial Reclaimations Officer" Essentially what people where saying about the Imperial Officer, a pet/companion class that focuses on being a forward scout and claiming sites for Futher study.

Specialisations would include:

Scout/Surveyor: Your DPS/Tank class, would have a variety of droids they could summon for various roles, mostly Damage and Tanking, maybe one healing pet/Droid. Trees would focus on Improving the Droids (Damage), Increasing/adding buffs for self and droids (Shared), or distributing aggro from you too the Droids (Tanking).

Commander/Field Tech: Your Support Class, Not a medic, this spec would focus on group-wide Damage distribution/dispersal (Think Defenders from City of Heroes, Not nessecarily Healers). Droids would be there for damge, but no tanking pets (Companions on the other hand? Most definatly). Trees would focus on Increasing/adding buffs for self and droids (Shared), Adding group-wide damage buffs for the short term (a minute or so, Damage), or adding group-wide defense buffs and migration of damage though droids and sheilds (Defense)

As a counter/Mirror, you could have a Republic/Independant "Fringe Archelogist" who has similar abilities/mirrored abilities.

Republic: Power Guard -- The Power Guard Project was a research project conducted by the Galactic Republic during the Cold War on Nar Shaddaa. Fearing that the Jedi Order was on the verge of extinction following the Great Galactic War, the Republic Senate authorized the establishment of a black ops research program on Nar Shaddaa to develop super-soldiers using a combination of cybernetics and adrenal stims. These Power Guards would be deployed to counteract the Sith on the battlefield in the event that no Jedi were available.

It was based on Nar Shaddaa due to the illegal nature of the research and was so secret that not even high ranked officers in the Republic military who oversaw the project knew where the project's headquarters were located. There was no shortage of volunteers for the project, mostly composed of refugees egging for payback against the Sith Empire. - http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Power_Guard_Project

The Power Guard could revolve around a refugee who has lost it all in the war volunteering for the 'project', and finding himself in control of immense strength & agility. Missions would likely come from the highest ranking officers or the senate itself. Would this power guard, suddenly in command of abilities unknown by common soldiers, fall to the temptation of the dark side that such power can bring? Or would he remember his purpose, seeking justice & upholding the ideals of the republic & the light?

Empire: Imperial Guard -- The Dark Honor Guard, also known as the Imperial Guard, was a force of elite warriors who had a reputation as being the deadliest and most disciplined soldiers in the Sith Empire. At the end of their training, the soldiers of the Guard were bound to the will of the Emperor by a ritual, resulting in them becoming totally loyal fanatics who were willing to die for him. They were distinguished by wearing red colored armor, and were armed with electrostaffs and blaster pistols. They were assigned to guard the Emperor's citadel, protect the Sith Academy on Korriban or eliminate individuals the Emperor wanted dead. -- http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_Honor_Guard

Imperial characters would find themselves stepping foot onto the training grounds of the fierce Imperial Guards. Here they are trained & indoctrinated into the ways of the guard, culminating in a ritual the bind themselves to the Emperor's service. Led by the Emperor himself or a high ranking imperial liaison, the guard would travel the galaxy furthering the Emperor's mysterious goals. Would this Imperial Guard succumb to the corrupting powers of the darkness & embrace his masters' will? Or would he accomplish his duties with tact, mercy, and kindness unknown by most?

Both could have a melee AC & a ranged AC. Might be interesting for each advanced class to have a unique tank tree, unique dps tree, and a shared skill tree for healing. Melee could be proficient in vibroswords & electrostaves, while the ranged could focus on rifles & autocannons.

i quite fancy some kind of command story line, something like a moff for imperials or a senator for the republic, not great for pvp granted but a more strategic offering would be another string to the bow. Planning battles, organising supplies etc would be great for me, love the big guns and sabres dont get me wrong, but i'm a big fan of halo wars !

love this game by the way,

a mechanic. Would be a class with lots of probes and stuff. Exploding and shooting probes, oil slicks that could be set on fire and turrets maybe. could even have a medic probe.

that would be a great idea for a utility based class. The advanced classes could also have major differences- one focuses on weakening your enemies, while the other focuses on strengthening your allies.

edit: we would have to find a way to make it more heroic than a space-plumber though.

a tank that can also heal would be pretty overpowered- don't you think?

It depends on the implementation. We already have healers in heavy armor, so healers with decent DR obviously isn't a major problem. Requiring the use of a tank stance to achieve tank grade survivability and a heal stance to be an effective healer would take care of the problem of tank survivability with decent healer functionality (e.g. you make effective tanking and effective healing mutually exclusive capabilities from a mechanical standpoint rather than a spec standpoint). The only "concern" would be for a tank to start self-spamming heals on him/herself but that's taken care of by reducing the baseline performance of the self heal and improving the stance and/or talents that improve it to bring it to standard healing performance so that, while it's possible, it's not particularly tactically intelligent, especially while being punched in the face (re: make the baseline heal, equivalent of Benevolence/Dark Heal, a 3 sec casting time baseline and make the heal stance reduce the cast time of all heals by 33% along with a further .5 sec reduction in cast time via talents).

I for one would love to play a new force user class. What I found disappointing in the ones we have was the easy and fast Knighthood. I would want to be a Padawan a little longer. The Prologue would be about becoming an apprentice for a Jedi Master and then the whole 1st chapter would be about being a Padawan and completing missions and trials and then end the 1st chapter with the accomplishment of becoming a Knight. There is a great opportunity for drama too if the player chooses to fall to the dark side, ending the chapter with an epic Lightsaber duel with your former master and then getting away with it. Should the player choose light side the enemy would be the Sith Lord responsible for trying to seduce the Padawan to the dark side.

Another thing I would love to see would be a class with reverse grip fighting style. Light whips and Light staffs would be an awesome addition to the force users arsenal aswell

And bring Togruta and Tholothian races to SWTOR!
