The Eternal Championship: Perfect Implementation

Yespa

Recommended Posts

This is a GUIDE to assist players through EC, and to provide suggestions on implementing the Eternal Championship into guild and player usage. This is not an open discussion, nor a rant page, so if you plan on doing so - feel free to utilize other threads that are just that. Moderation will be strictly applied to those attempting to do so otherwise. In the meantime, for those interested, this thread will drastically increase your overall gameplay experience, and your ability to overcome the Eternal Championship.

*NOTE : Spoilers are throughout this, so use common sense, thanks!

A few pointers before we get started. First and foremost, it is my assertion that this content has been perfectly implemented. The tuning is just right, the challenge level is just right, and the rewards are decent enough to earn a go. (It would be nice to possibly get championship season rewards changed every 3 or 6 months, that would be fun!).

INTRO:

As it stands the Championship serves as an active player mid check. What I mean by mid check is simply this; an entry level player seeking to do endgame content can parse on a dummy easily and get "perfect numbers" , yet may not parse so well under fire. Doing Flashpoints has served as a long term medium to determine if a player is raid ready. My guild (for example) farms all HM's and progress NiMs in post-4.0. Ive been here since launch and cleared all content upon release. Our raid ops would run the flashpoint, Lost Island, consistently for new players to assist them in learning how to do boss mechanics and such.

The Championship now provides a better medium between actual operation dps checks and simple dummy checks by providing live, interactive, farmable, repeatable, bosses with mechanics that prepare a player for introduction to harder content (operations). This is a good thing all around, and players themselves can even self-prepare if they are not familiar with MMO raiding. *Hitting a stationary target (target dummy) does not provide anything useful other than knowing a player has their optimal rotation down. While avoiding bosses, adds and engaging in situational awareness, dps drastically drops - as you have to be capable of dynamic action and thought, rather than robotic button mashing. As such,m practice makes perfect, muscle memory is very important, but being able to stay alive and keep up focus are key skills players need to continue onward through content.

GUILD BENEFIT:

Henceforth, this allows guilds and individuals to bypass flashpoint training, which wastes alot of time of adds and map navigation and going directly to the boss fights. These 10 bosses will drastically improve a trained characters performance in current and upcoming events. Learning how to move, manage distance (close or far), understand different roles in the battlefield (trinity of tank, heals and dps) and how each is necessary in specific situations will better equip new players, which much of kotfe is already geared towards attracting and doing.

DISCLAIMER:

Sure many of us who have been mmo raiding for years if not decades can walk in, but imagine a young person 15, 18, or maybe 20+ for their first time checking out this mmo thing they talk about and since they love star wars, they chose SWTOR. Never raided before, no real life combat training - its definitely going to be overwhelming for sure! The championship, once they have gotten that far, along with making friends, joining guilds and hopefully doing pugs, will provide them the insight and preparation needed to get them started on harder stuff. Well done, the Championship did what it was designed to do! its a mid point, not end game. The rewards are decorative, and unless you have a niche interest in the gear appearances, arent very veteran friendly. New players however, now have two additional methods of getting gear stuffs (new comm vendor on fleet).

FOR VETERANS:

So with that being said, for veterans there is a benefit as well. Tired of practicing on the target dummy, or having to do the same raid over n over with the group, or cant even get into a raid? Eternal Championship is our friend. You can test specs out in instant raid boss level of challenge. See how your designs of the chosen hero work in a real time experience, versus static target dummies. Wanna get a feel for your new button layout, or just want to keep your edge, go EC for practice. Leveled a new advance class and want to get familiar with it so you can run with your guild/friends through harder content? EC is your new place to practice. No adds, just straight boss fights, no bs.

With that being said, there is alot of conjecture and cries for help out there. Im going to go ahead and thanks to contributors on fan sites such as Dulfy (shout out) post the walk through for each boss below. I am also going to link to fan site class by class guide for each advanced class post 4.0. These guides are excellent and any new player, even veterans will highly benefit from reading these. Understanding your class will alleviate approximately 50% of the difficulties you experience in this game. Also dont forget, rotation and button placement on your UI makes a huge difference. Muscle memory is everything, and if you have not built it, things are more challenging when you have to take a second or two to find each button you want. Memory is an important element of proper mmo management of characters in combat.

This is the first in a series of matters regarding the Eternal Championship released in 4.4

Many thanks to Dulfy and her contributors, much of this information is just ported from fan based sites. This is designed to reach the masses that strictly utilize the official forums and are unaware of other resources available to them. The full guide and info can be found at: http://dulfy.net/2016/04/02/swtor-eternal-championship-guide/

Eternal Championship:

To get access to Eternal Championship, you have to have completed Chapter 9 of KOTFE (IMPORTANT!) , and then head to Zakuul Platform 6 Cantina. In there you will find a NPC named Dominaire who will talk to you and get you started. Once you talk to him, use the console behind him and get the mission as well as the weeklies (Weeklies first!).

You get Eternal Championship Trophies from the weeklies (6 per week) and they are legacy bound so you can do this on multiple characters to get gear for one character.

The first six battles will be detailed below. These are fairly simple and straightforward, hence they will be brief and consolidated.

-------

Round 1 – Arlaia Zayzen

Relatively straightforward boss. The two adds, Combat Unit and Medical Unit will not attack you but will increase Arlaia’s damage and heal her. So you want to kill them both first before engaging Arlaia.

Arlaia have 3 attacks: regular ranged attack that deals about 2.5-4k per hit. Fragmentation Grenade that deals 6k-13k damage and Snipe which can deal anywhere from 5k to 18k if buffed by the droids

-------

Round 2 – Daruula Grah

Daruula comes with two Iknayid pets and spawns sets of two on a timer. You can ignore them for the most part as Daruula throws a Toxic Grenade that follows you around as a red circle and then turns into a yellow static circle. Once the Toxic Grenade turns yellow, you can kite the Iknayids through them as they are vulnerable to the Noxious DoT applied by the yellow circle.

The Trained Iknayid hits for about 400 with its rapid melee attacks. The Poisonous Iknayid that spawns later have Poison Bites that deals about 2k damage per bite. The Noxious DoT from the Toxic Genade yellow circle hits for 9-12k damage per tick.

-------

Round 3 – Gungus Boga

You can completely ignore the Herald of Zildrog and just burn Gungus. Once Gungus reaches a certain timer he will jump in the middle and grapple you in. He will then chain a massive AoE attack called Zildrog’s Judgement. If you stand in it you will take a massive 30k damage, which isn’t lethal for most players so you can stay in and DPS if you like to finish him off.

--------

Round 4 – Conraad and Chompers

This is a fight where you don’t want to simply kill off one quickly as doing so will cause the remaining one to enrage and gain massive damage buff. What you want to do is ignore Conraad and burn Chompers down to 30% first so it enters a regenerative state where it will heal up. When this happens, Conraad will gain a buff that make him gain more damage but he will also take more damage. This will allow you to shave off a huge chunk of Conraad’s HP while Chompers regenerates back to full HP.

Once Chompers regenerate back to full HP, you want to focus back on Chompers and push it to the regenerative state again. If you kill Conraad before Chompers exit the regenerative state, both will die instantly. However, if Chiompers reach 100% HP and then you kill Conraad after, Chomper will enrage and likely kill you. So timing is important here.

Chomper’s main attacks are Acid Puddle (yellow circle that turns red) which inflicts 7k damage per tick and K’lorslug Slam attack which is telegraphed by a red circle that you want to move out of. Conraad has a supressive fire conal attack and basic ranged attacks. In addition Conraad will summon K’lor’slug Larva/Soldier adds that deals a bunch of rapid low damage attacks that can be dangerous.

--------

Round 5 – Lanos

This fight is all about managing adds as Lanos himself is a pushover. Lanos will immediately spawn Reprogrammed Skytrooper Shielders that will make him immune to all damage. To deal with them, use either knockback, interrupt, or stun and they will stop shielding Lanos. They will not die however and will switch their focus to attacking you.

The other kind of threat is the Unstable Reprogrammed Skytroopers that will jet charge to you and try to blow you up, You just need to avoid their red circles and they will blow themselves up.

Lastly, groups of regular Reprogrammed Skytroopers will spawn that may need to be dealt with. Luckily they have very low HP.

------

Round 6 – Breaktown Brawler

This is one of the more annoying fights that force you to stay at melee range and you will be taking a lot of damage. So if you havn’t used any of the nearby kolto stations it might be good to start using them for this fight. The idea of this fight is that all 3 mobs will reflect any damage dealt by players standing outside their circle. So this force you to stand in melee if you want to do any damage to them or you will die from your own damage.

In addition, King Crush and and Mister must not be near each other or they will both gain enraged buff, dealing 200% more damage. If you have a tank/DPS companion you can send them to deal with one and hold it while you kite the other one around. Otherwise you will need to run around, jump in to damage one and then back out as you see the other approaching to avoid the enrage buff.

The brawler himself is fairly annoying. While his individual punches only about 2.5k damage per hit, he hit fairly fast and place a stacking debuff on you that goes up to 30 stacks called Brawler Combo. So you will want to avoid him as much as possible while killing Crush and Ripper. Brawler will also go invul from time to time while channeling Untouchable. This will knock you back at end of the channel. If you get too far from the Brawler he will also teleport to you using Berserker Slam.

Once you have killed Ripper or Crush and you have a DPS or tank companion, I find it nice to have them stick on the Brawler while you work on the remaining one so you don’t have to wait for brawler’s Untouchable invul. If you happen to kill Brawler first, Ripper or Crush will enrage but they don’t hit too hard in their enrage mode so you can survive for a while.

*Note: It is being suggested not to use any tank abilities that are AoE, especially on acompanion. Remember you can turn off abilities such as an aoe taunt on companions, or just keep them in healer spec.

*This one is the one that many are having problems with due to the melee range necessity of the fight.. All the range specs have a moderately short attack distance for their attacks, you may prefer sitting from a distance, but in this fight, its run and gun. Get in there, get dirty and its straight forward. Mind over matter.

This post will include battles seven and eight of the Eternal Championship, continued from above.

-------

Round 7 – Nocturno & Drake Raven

Drake Raven is a ranged class that will jetpack around and do the occasional Saturation Fire. However, he will also throw out stun grenades on you that follow you around as a red circle and then remains on the ground until it is triggered by you or one of the NPCs. The goal here is to kill Drake ASAP while kiting Nocturno into those mines and stun her. Keep in mind that the mines have an arming time so it takes a few seconds for them to activate.

Nocturno has a stance called Perfect Defense where she will take less damage but also walk more slowly. Her other stance is one where she charges around while getting a buffed damage and movement speed. You want to avoid her when she is charging around and stun her as much as possible by kiting her into the stun mines. She will use an ability called Wild Attack when she is charging around that deals 10k or up to 25k when she is enraged.

When Drakes gets low in HP, he will summon a bunch of adds that will kidnap and gang up on your companion. When this happens,. simply interrupt & kill G0-ON Abductor and all the other droids will explode. Much like enemies from round 6, they can be only damaged in melee range and reflect ranged damage outside their circles.

Once you kill Drake, Nocturno will enrage but you can pick up Drake’s utility belt. The only abilities you want to use are #1 and #2. #1 allow you to deploy a stun mine anywhere with a 8s cooldown. You can pretty much keep spamming stun mines with this. The #2 skill will jetpack you to another location. #3 skill applies a hard stun to Nocturno for 3s. Nocturno in enrage mode deals 200% more damage and her Wild Attacks deal upwards of 25k damage so you want to keep her perm stunned if possible. Do not use #4 as it actually summon the abductor droids that will kidnap your companion..

*Note: Using the utility belt requires you to click and loot from the ground, this can be tricky!!

*Note The stun from the utility belt is KEY to winning this fight

------------

Round 8- Little Gut

Little Gut is a rancor with two attacks that you need to avoid: Overhead Smash and Terrifying Roar. Both will do 20k damage if unavoided and Terrifying Roar has a huge knockback that is pretty annoying. Overhead Smash is a small red circle while Terrifying Roar is a long rectangle AoE that extends across the arena.

Little Guts’s other attack with large damage is Ferocious Slam where a yellow circle will appear under and follow you around. Once this yellow circle disappears, Little Gut will jump on top of you and stun you before dealing the slam that deals ~16k damage. Ths slam is always followed by a throw where Little Gut will throw you over him, which can be annoying if there is a trap behind Little Gut.

Ronum Minkus, the handler doesn’t actually participate in the fight. He just lit up 1/2 of the arena with traps from time to time. One is a flame trap that deals 2k damage per tick while the other is an electricity trap that slow you down significantly. If the fight takes too long, he will lit up more of the room and introduced a poison trap. If your DPS is absolutely terrible, it is possible that the entire room will be trapped and you will hit a soft enrage.

At 70% and 30% Apprentice Handlers will spawn. You need to focus on them as they will try to buff the Rancor (damage buff or heal buff) and also summon Bogwing adds if they are not killed quickly. If you see them giving the rancor a buff (a channel), interrupt them.

*Note: Kill the adds, they drop fast and are worth eliminating.

Below are the final two fights of the Eternal Championship as continued from above.

--------

Round 9- Doom Droid

Doom Droid has a giant laser attack called Laser Beam that has a 2.5s cast time and then deals massive damage to anyone caught in the beam, including your companion. It deals about 40k damage so your companion can maybe take 2 hits at most. You may have to use the Kolto stations to them up between Laser Beams or drag Doom Droid away from your companion so it can hit Doom Droid form the back and not take the Laser Beam damage.

The other attack from Doom Droid is Missile Strike, a series of 3 yellow circles that you can avoid most of the time.

From time to time, Assault Unit droids will be spawned. AZ-B will cast a Shock Beam attack which will slow you down, making you a better target for AZ-A that chase you around and explode on you, dealing 50k+ damage. You can interrupt the Shock Beam, CC the droid or just kill it.

The last crucial mechanic is the Pulse Charge. At a certain time interval, Doom Droid will go immune and summon 4 Advanced Combat Units that will charge the node. You have 20s to kill all 4 droids or Doom Droid will finish recharge and instantly kill you. Each droid have 6.6k HP and they are close enough for you to AoE some of them down.

*Note: Kill the add wave that has 20 second counter

*Note: For those who fought the droid in Makeb storyline, this is similar, but alot easier due to not being so buggy

*Note: Keeping the companion behind the droid works wonders.

--------

Round 10- Zotar *Final Fight

Phase 1

Being the last boss of Eternal Championship, the mechanics are slightly more complicated. You fight the walker After Shock first, which has an attack called Fury Mortar that deals 25k damage and spawns 4 Fire Support Droids periodically. These Fire Support Droids will try to target you with their High Powered Laser which deals ~8k damage. Fury Mortar will destroy any droids/kolto stations caught in its circle and the beams from the Fire Support Droids will also kill each other. Using this knowledge you can ignore these Fire Support Droids for the most part.

You bring After Shock to 50% and Zortar will jump out of it while After Shock regens 1% HP per second. Use this time to damage Zortar with your companion. Zortar loves to push you around and has a stacking buff that increases his damage if his target is outside melee range. His Death Field ability will also slow you, something to watch out for later on. Once After Shock heals to 80% Zortar will jump back in the walker so you have 30s to damage Zortar.

Phase 2

After Zortar gets in the repair walker, the walker will do a 15s channel called Focused Laser. This attack deals ~5k damage per tick and to survive it you either need to pop your defensive CDs (don’t forgot the Unity legacy ability that give you 50% damage reduction) or use the Kolto stations. Another new ability the walker goes is Gravity Mine which will pull you into the middle and slow you.

Bring the walker to 50% again and Zortar will pop out again. This time you want to bring Zortar to 50% to trigger Phase 3.

Phase 3

Once Zortar reaches 50% HP, he will jump in the mdidle and casts Shocking Finale. The entire arena will lit up with electricity except the middle. The electric field deals ~13k damage per tick and is quite deadly. Zortar will continue to knock you around and can push you into the electric field.

Once the walker is repaired to 80%, Zortar will activate its autopilot, which will begin the Fury Mortar bombardment along with Fire Support Droids. You don’t want to stand in the middle when Fury Mortar occurs as that leaves you with no safe room to stand. Instead, pick an edge and try hit some droids with the Mortars.

This last phase can be a bit chaotic but it is short since Zortar doesn’t have much HP.

Below we will delve into post 4.0 class specific guides for optimizing and gearing your pve character. Alot of people enjoy playing dress up star wars barbie, but to clear content, you will need to understand how your character works and how to do combat. Eternal Championship is likely the first real challenge a new player can encounter prior to doing ops, and is useful for casuals as well. Knowing your class is half the battle, and knowing is half the battle...(so says G.I. Joe).

Each of these guides is for one spec for the advanced class of each, so there will be 8 total guides linked for each side. However there are 3 specs per advanced class. These are the optimized PVE specs mainly used for sustained damage versus burst damage. Burst is good for solo pve content like quests, but sustained damage/healing is useful for stuff like EC. Keep in mind if you have a tank type character, they do in fact have dps specs, and should be using them for EC, not using tank spec. Pretty much, unless youre tanking an operation as their main tank (which means u should know what youre doing) u should always be in dps tank spec. Same with healers, each have a dps hybrid, and theres no reason u should be in full healer spec for this content or much anything else except hard raids.

An additional side note:

Game and hardware performance greatly affect these things as well.

1. Turn down your graphics! Sure it doesnt look as pretty, but were not going for pretty here, were going for win.

(find the optimal graphic setting for your hardware, some systems literally work better with "medium" versus low.)

2. Unless you absolutely need it, turn off sound. The way this game is designed, the audio ports in and uses cpu!

3. Run the game in Full Screen Mode. Close all unnecessary apps, browsers and the like. Reset your pc and run maintenance before engaging in this type of content. True Full Screen dedicates pc resources to the game, if you alt tab out, you will experience drastic slowdown.

4. Find the Swtor tweaking guides around town and apply them.

5. Depending on your OS, there are plenty of tweaks out there to improve game quality and speed.

6. Optimize your router or connection, this helps!

7. Remember, due to server side issues, jumping in place when seeking specific placement is REQUIRED to update your location (think damage reflection boss).

8. OH!!! And get rid of BitRaider! Its horrible and eats up your life - seriously get rid of it.

Understanding your system has an immense level of impact on gameplay. If youre on windows, which is likely what the majority of players are on, getting all the up to date updates to your OS are important. Also updating to Win 10 with a clean wipe will also speed up the game immensly for most systems.

Due to travelling alot, my connections usually are on the fritz, and do not always have access to my best gear - many times im playing on old laptops and bad connections! These simple adjustments will help your gameplay, new systems or old.

General question I had regarding solo mode eternal championship. Its pretty easy in solo mode to do this as a marauder annilation DPS spec. How is this solo in Tank and Heal spec? A couple fights seem to have a DPS check. It seems this implementation heavily favors DPS players. Does this scale/change depending on your class or do the mechanics remain the same?

Very nice guide, thank you!

One thing you might want to note on the guide for the Brawler above: it's best to keep your companion on healing, but if you want to switch your companion to damage, make sure the companion is a MELEE companion. Ranged companions set to damage on Brawler shoot from a distance and kill themselves at the start of the fight.

How is this solo in Tank and Heal spec? A couple fights seem to have a DPS check.

I have not tried on a healer however I suspect it would involve quite a bit of companion micro.

I did my first run on a tank with a 23 Influence companion. Left it in heal stance 100% of the time. I found most mechanics ignorable in the first 8 fights. The dual rancors were trivial, I let them stack on me and aoe'd them down. So simple that doing it later on a dps really caught me off guard and got me killed.

The burst in wave 9 worried me when I saw it but it is simple, even on a tank, to do ~7k damage to 4 probes in 20 seconds.

I died in wave 10 by not attempting the burn phase mechanic properly, getting my companion killed, then me. 2nd run through was o trouble. I also think (not 100% sure) that I was slow dpsing the main boss and he went into the walker an extra time.

I found it far, far easier on a tank than on my sniper.

That said, as a PT I was able to do a bit of DPS from range which admittedly made the fights a bit quicker than possibly on a jug or sin, but I don't see that as making the fights necessarily easier, just a bit quicker.

I didn't realize the kolto's didnt respawn and I burned them early just out of habit and I got a little scared during the beam. Moreso when I noticed I couldn't dump it on my companion, but I did have cooldowns.

Overall I'd say simple on a tank, just time consuming. I would think a similar principle would apply to a healer.

Good job man, I reward you a pink sticker for your dedication :D And I only have ONE pink sticker left, so nice one. Someday, when I get over all the other content in this game (soooo much to do) I'll unlock that EC and get ur done, will definitely reference this post.

If you have a tank/DPS companion you can send them to deal with one and hold it while you kite the other one around.

I want to note that Dulfy is quite wrong here, as this is what kept getting me killed on round 6, because the Tank/DPS companion caused all three of them to keep stacking in the same spot. A heal companion holds aggro fine and doesn't get wrecked as easily, and you can go off and kill the one guy without having to worry about them stacking.

Oh, and they heal.

Thank you very much for this guide! I tried the championship today for the first time but was stuck on boss 6. Kiting worked for some time but then I could not get the second beast to follow me and with both beasts my companion got killed soon.

I have mostly 216er gear on my dps sage and level 36 Lana - I will try to find out why I am not doing enough damage to get the aggro. I am not interested in doing OPS or HM flashpoints but I would very much like to finish the championship.

Hey thanks for the question. The mechanics stay the same, as well as the challenge level, even if you bring a group or remain solo. I would assert that going in as a solid tank spec or healer spec will in fact cause problems. Somewhere in the middle near end I did mention this. Its best to have the companion be in healer stance or whatnot while dpsing yourself, even if normally a tank or healer. The mechanics do not change nor do the stats, hence its a dps race mostly.

Hope that helps!

Yea thats a pretty self explanatory concept, but good to note for first timers for sure, thanks :)

Hang on - did you write this guide for Dulfy, or did you just add your two cents to hers, post it here, and call it your own? Much of it looks pretty verbatim, and it's kinda messed up to take her traffic by posting it here.

If you re-read the post and see what was actually written, Dulfy and her contributors are listed as the source and origin of this information. This is merely a port with some friendly advice. As mentioned in the intro, non-constructive or undermining responses will be reported to moderation.

Thats some pretty awesome feedback. Sadly people are reporting sniper as the most challenging to run this on thus far, which is likely whey you had a negative experience. Awesome to hear that running as tank is viable, something I expected, but didnt want to suggest.

Yes that works just as fine too, however I also did the damage spec companion here and found it to go alot quicker than when it was on heal spec, hence why I maintained the original notes.

Hmmm? Youre very welcome - yes that boss fight can be a challenge. I always use direction commands for my companion which can be bound. You can direct which mob they have to attack, and then you can draw aggro from the other, regardless if they are in tank, heal or dps spec. Hope that helps!

Key note to remember: This is just a guide and as such there will be multiple ways to approach and overcome this content. Feel free to suggest your insights and methods and even notes to add as previous posts have to help others get through. Its dynamic and always modifiable. These guides are Dulfys as stated, and hence were pulled and written pre live release.

I think you'd be surprised though... it took me a couple passes on my SW using Vette (who was my highest level companion and I'd been waiting patiently for the story to return her to me) where Vette kept dying at the start of the fight to figure out what the issue was. Instead of heals, I'd set her to DPS -- same as I'd done with Xalek on my sorcerer which worked perfectly. Finally figured out it was Vette killing herself with the range DPS stuff.

(This, therefore, is an issue for those people who only have a ranged companion as their high-influence go-to...)

Thanks!

Yeah it's a helpful guide, don't get me wrong. Dulfy's notes were otherwise fantastic I one-shotted all the other bosses except the last one (because my companion wouldn't move out of the 13k/tick damage area...) on my first run through.
