As stated earlier, Im a bumbass. But.... I wonder about mods, enhancements and so on

Im a returning player, havent played since 2014 I think.

So to my question in general, are they really as important as they used to be? I get green gear and they beat my modable gear down the drain, even with purple mods, enhancements etc? Back when I started playing all the green stuff you got from quests was just trash and ended up sold for credits?

For a follow up, if I take out the mods will they be bound to me aswell or is just the gear/weapon itself bound?

Im just a newbie again, running around trying to get used to the system and how my characters work... rotations etc:)

If you remove the mods, they will be bound to you, but you can put them into BoL (Legacy) pieces to transfer them to your other characters.

Green and blue pieces can often have the same stats. The difference is usually in the level requirement.

Generally speaking, you can match or exceed the stats on a green or blue piece by upgrading the mods on your "orange" (or whatever colour) "moddable" piece. Also, of course, you can upgrade all your moddable pieces at once, rather than going hit and miss with dropped pieces. (Mods can be bought from Modification Vendors on the Fleet.)

Given the "level balancing" nature of the game these days, having the best stats is not very important while levelling. It only becomes important when you get past level 65.

Thank you.

I dont have a ton of credits and its kind of expensive to extract the mods, so as long as I can do that and still put them in the legacy vault it is worth it.

I was wondering about just selling those items to vendor, glad I didnt:)

One little update about the gear.

Ive doing heroics, and they must have been nerfed.. I dont have very good gear as you know, since greens from heroic 2 quests beats my orange modable (purple) once.

Looking alittle further on the questline, looking on the "story line", the reward is pants wich is crap compared to what I got now.

But then again, I guess my gear is not that good, mods alittle outdatet (cant find anything on gtm) and that heroics give alittle better gear.

As we speak I gues I will turn lvl 57, I seem to remember some vendors selling at least blue mods? The one on the fleet only sell green once... at least the once I found?

Yes, the fleet vendors used to sell blue mods, but now they're green. The green mods are all you really need for now.

Btw - you don't need to remove the old mods before you add new ones - you can simply overwrite them. You only need to rip mods out of a piece of equipment if you want to use them in a different piece.

Thank you, yes I know I can overwrite them instead of taking them out. But the idea is to maybe use them further down the line on another toon.Got tons of empty adative gear thanks to all the pilotsuits piling up.

Am I correct about the nerfing? Heroics that I remember as impossible to solo is now not so bad, i may die once or twice but I get trought them:)

If you are having problems with money sell anything that is of no use for you, any starter medpacs, useless armour, old weapons, mods you dont use, etc.

You can also win tons of credits in Alderaan, since the story arc mission there gives you 1k credits minimum for every objective you complete.

I hope this helped you out :D

Well, not totally scrapped. Got together a million of them. But as far as I can tell, that is not so much in this game:)I havent checked the price for extracting mods, its more expensive as the itiem lvl rises, right? So the armor just sits in my legacy vault waiting patiently. And stupis as I am, I need to keep stuff, I "might" get use for it down the line...... but I never actually use it off course! Unless its something that happens to match one of my other active toons, wich is almolst never!hehehe

The cost of extracting modifications does go up, with both the level and "quality" of the modification. (A "purple" level 50 modification will be more expensive to extract than a "green" level 50 modification). Along with that, the cost to extract will nearly always be far more that what you'll get by selling the mod - like anywhere from 2 or 3 times, to more than 10 times what it sells for. So it's definitely not worth pulling a mod unless you're going to put it in another piece of gear. And even then, it's probably not worth it, unless you're at end game and fine tuning your stats to be the "ideal" for your class/spec.

Gear from the class mission rewards will always be "appropriate" for the original "designed level" of the mission. But since leveling goes so much faster now, and you're likely to be overleveled for your missions almost from the minute you start playing, it will pretty much always just be vendor trash.

It's really not worth bothering to mess with upgrading mods in your gear while leveling anymore. Level sync does shift you down to the max for whatever planet you're on, but you still keep all your higher level abilities and your high-influence companion(s), so it's still a cakewalk.

I never bother with "gearing" while leveling anymore. If a loot drop is better than a piece I have equipped, I use it. If not, it's vendor trash. But I don't pay attention to whether all, or even any, of my gear is up to my current level, much less bother constantly going back to Fleet and upgrading the mods in it.

If you feel like you really need to upgrade your gear, run some Heroics. Until you hit level 61, these will give you "blue" gear that is "appropriate" for your level - your actual level, not your "shifted" level for whatever low level planet you're doing the Heroics on.

And if you're concerned about the gear from drops messing up your 'look", just stamp your "good looking" gear into an Outfit tab, and make the outfit "active". Then you can use the gear you get from loot drops as your "equipped" gear, and not worry about how gawdawful it looks.

Thank you, very nice answer, informativ for me as a returning player.

So the pilotsuits etc is just vendor trash, not worth holding on to? Besides maybe one set for "end game"?

My saboteur got a lvl 65 gun on the first flashpoint I played... lvl 10 boss!:) It has purple lvl 200 mods in it, so that one Im aching to get a hold of, but my sharpshooter is at lvl 61 at the moment, so still got some way to to.

But what is kind of funny is that I have only been doing heroics 2, had a lot of them in my questlist so I wanted to finish them rather then deleting them.... went from 55 to 61 on them alone, alittle help from 60-61 with the Makeb main questline, but everything is quite easy.

Have been working Corso as tank lately, works out fine. Was alittle worried that he would die to fast, but no problems at all this far.... guess it might change when I get up to "my" lvl:)

I thought "he must be 55". Yeah, 55 greens are index 168. Back in the day Arkanian purple was 162!

So yeah the stats AT LEVEL 55 are better.

However if you're on a lower level planet, level sync WILL reflect the quality of the gear. ie base weapon damage will be higher with a purple lvl 18 weapon on Coruscant than with a blue level 40 or green 55. However secondary stats remain (crit, shield, relic procs, etc)

You are correct my good man, I was indeed a lvl 55:)

Didnt even consider the rollback on lvl would also mess around with weapons like that, but I guess it makes alittle sense. Guess that goes for outfits too?

Looked over the gun i got and tried to remove the barrel and put it in the legacy cargo.... didnt work:(

Nope, cause it's bound to your char. But you can put that in a legacy weapon to move it around. Many reputations have them - Gree, THORN, Bounty Brokers, right now the Casino Event. You can also reroll a char and nowadays the weapon they get at the end of starter planet is legacy bound. The barrel or hilt is also now generic (no longer stuck as "offhand" or "sniper rifle" for instance) so you can take out a barrel from a rifle and put it into a blaster. ;)

Welcome back to the game!

As for the 168 55 greens I've often thought "what if some 55 came back to find that, what a shock" :p That's why I anticipated it.

And yes the rollback takes gear quality into account. So a purple armor of level 18 on a planet capped at 18 will have better armor rating, mastery and endurance than a green 55, but way less crit power alacrity or shield/absorb/defense.

Anyway, world PVE is a faceroll now.
