They need to replace Stock Strike with Full Auto for Assualt

Every single move is 10M or farther except Stock Strike. So, we're forced to either fight at Melee or run in ever 15 seconds to stock strike. Since Full Auto doesn't fit in any other rotation/spec build and Tactics already has you up close more often thanks to Gut, they should replace Stock Strike in the rotation with Full Auto and make us (Assualt Specialists) a true mid-ranged DPS class.

 

It would be nice to have a blaster rifle class actually fight at range, no? ;)

So, you want to gimp your class? If your talking about pvp, then your asking to replace an instant cast for a channelled... which can be interrupted or stopped in any number of ways. PvE, well, why would you want a mid-range dps? "Oh, look at that VG. Too far away for melee AoE heals, but not close enough for ranged AoE heals meanwhile still in range of all melee mechanics."

 

Dumb idea is dumb.

Yeah, because they couldn't possibly make changes to Full auto to make the change level out. Like making the channel uninterruptable. And why would you want a Mid-Ranged DPS? I don't know. Maybe to stay out of Melee AOE damage? Maybe to stay out of Melee damage? Heck, why don't we just make all classes melee? I'd hate for that gunslinger to miss out on the AOE heal you just put on the tank.

 

And it was just a thought. No need to be a *****.

After hearing from a few people on here I just came to the conclusion that the Vangaurd is just intended to be a gloried non-force using melee specialist. Which is too bad, I wanted to use a blaster rifle to shoot people not slap them, guess I'll have to play imp Agent. Oh wait their ranged uses snipers. Well, nuts.

That's honestly one reason why I thought this would be a nice change. Get rid of our one melee move in favor of one we never use and we become range/mid-range. At least for the one spec. Shield spec and Tactics would both still be melee.

Then think before you post. The whole melee AOE dmg excuse for not wanting melee is just to cater to crap healers.

Stockstrike: classified as "Tech" attack, instant, kinetic damage

 

Full Auto: classified as "Ranged" attack, 3-sec. channeled, weapon damage

 

Replacing SS for FA would be hindering for a Vanguard's damage based on current game mechanics. Instant vs channeled and tech damage vs weapon damage. The channel of the Pulse Cannon attack is only tolerable because it's a Tech attack (leveling my 2nd VG as Tactics this time). A Vanguard's forte' is Tech attacks.

 

I do understand why some players would desire something like the change you suggested. There are tons of threads discussing and some QQ'ing over "Ranged Tank" etc. that players thought the class would be when the game first started. It's a melee class and the suggestion you propose would most likely not provide the desired benefit based on the overall intent of the class design.

Personally, with Assault, the only time I'm ever within Melee range is when an AOE heal is laid out and I need healing or if I have to stock strike. Otherwise, I'm strafing around out of AOE damage while performing all of my other abilties. Having to run in for one move, especially when that move is so crucial to Assault, just feels clunky. There is no other reason (DPS wise) for me to ever be within 4M.

A talent within the Assault tree that makes Full Auto's attack into a tech attack and problem solved. Also, I only wanted this change for Assault to make it feel a bit different from the other Vanguard specs.
