Light Side / Dark Side / Neutral

DrownedOut

Recommended Posts

So if I'm playing a Smuggler, don't feel like babying some of the characters in quest choices which leads to dark side points, but as equally often I end up with light side points... I am ending up about neutral.

Is this going to nerf/gimp my character?

I have heard you need certain tiers of light/dark side to meet gear prerequisities?

Or how does this work?

I don't want to be pigeonholed into having a goodie-2-shoes smuggler, but likewise I don't want an overly evil-for-the-sake-of-being-evil character...

Am I screwed to be forever gimped?

Thanks

It's a good question and i haven't gotten any clear answers.

it seems pointless to have invested so much time into the storyline of the game only to force people to min/max their light/dark meter to use equipment to stay competitive.

So far all the 'relics' ive found , i can't use becuase i'm neutral. I haven't seen any that don't have a requirement. This means i'm a few dozen points of endurnace lower than any other tanks who've decided to just min/max one way or the other.

There are certain items and equipment you can't use if you don't have the correct alignment. I've only seen it simple terms of "can't use if more than Dark Side I" though, rather than "Must Be Light Side I" or something.

I had some green crystals that were only usable by light side (which didn't bother me, because I was just going to sell them anyway, they just came out of a crew mission).

i would like to know this as well. but for now im answering as i see fit; one of my 'contacts' had a thing for flerting with me and asking for my protection; my smubler toon was very unhappy to discover that contact was making a fool out of him. secretly working for the enamy while stringing him along. he shot here in cold blood - a darkside action

if that's honestly how it works then it defeats the purpose of having a story system that allows you to make choices.

I would have to assume bioware knows better than to do that?

Light/Dark options should be ultimately cosmetic/story decisions.

Right now as far as I know, if i continue to play through the story making the story decisions i personally want to make, I'll simply never be able to use relics.

I'm okay with being locked out of certain cosmetic items.

But if my character is seriously weaker simply becuase i've decided to participate in the vaunted storyline of the game, that seems completely backwards to the point of bothering to put the story in the game.

Penalized, becuase you consciously participate rather than just mashing the light or dark button every time.

I hate all ths complaining becuase it's a great game with some flaws, but this is a MAJOR oversight if it's actually true.

As far as I know, you're seriously gimped if you go neutral... Another bad decision by Bioware.

No. There is no specifically "neutral" gear, but the light and dark side restricted gear is mostly appearances only. It is equivalent to crafted, dropped, and bought gear.

This means you will occasionally miss out on a drop (moreso than the light and dark side players, who will miss out on half as many), but the pieces so restricted are few and far between.

You are not "gimped" by any stretch of the imagination.

Isn't there a way to drop your Dark/Light side points too? So you can play the story however you like and use whatever tool it was to remove/reset those points. It was like a year ago when this was discussed and since they wiped the old forums... so it could be removed or not implemented yet.

You can pick up Diplomacy as a crew skill and these missions will give you light/dark points but i would think it would be a grind.

or you can just keep doing flash points and just make the desired light/dark choices

Playing my Inquisitor I didn't notice because of course he is an evil douche. But when I rolled a Trooper I was annoyed by the ammount of DS points, or conversation choices that were LS or DS only.

Spoilers for Ord Mantell Trooper Quests

Your a member of a elite squad of republic soldiers sent to track down and disable a massive orbital assault bomb. Along the way you get involved in the various needs of the population.

One quest has you tracking down stolen medicine from the garrison stock pile. At the end of the quest your left with LS: give the medicine back to the thief; refugees who need it to cure sick children, or DS: give it back to the garrison to help heal wounded soldiers. Choosing to give it back to the garrison shouldn't just automatically be DS. Your doing you job.

This happens alot with the Trooper. LS: save the children. DS: Do your job perhaps win the conflict on Ord Mantell alittle quicker.

FFS. Your an Elite member of a specialist team. Aren't there other people out there to deal with some of the more mundane. Waste of your skill set tasks they make you go through.

I've told myself I"m just going to play the Trooper my way. If I want to repair DS/LS points I'll just farm flashpoints. After playing it "my way" the first time.

The head of development has stated that Neutral bonuses are something that is coming "Sooner than soon" it was simply something they didnt have enough time to get done before launch. Now how long "sooner than soon" means I have no clue. I read about this on joystiqs swtor page.

Me personally Im gonna play my character the way I want and if they end up grey, they end up grey, and hope eventually I get whatever bonuses for it.
