Aader
Hey guys I am wondering if there are some maths gurus out there who can assist me? Im trying to balance my stats using some simple formula to calculate how much average damage i would be doing with a particular spell. i picked shock as it was easy to calculate, but ideally i would like to use force lightning as its what i use the most average dmg: noncrit damage * (1 + (crit rate * crit multi)) = average dmg including crits My stats are (self buffed): Willpower : 1582 Power : 400 Force Power: 1217 Crit Rating : 281 (25.82%) Surge : 342 (76.36%) Alacrity : 198 (none from item modification) Expertise : 525 (10.53%) So for shock its: 1357 * (1 + (0.2582 * 0.7636)) = 1624.54818264 So is that correct? Also, Im a PVP'er and im trying to decide which relic to use, looks like i should use the pvp relic which gives power (+355) over the one which crit/surge (+220), even tho my crit chance is low!? with self buffs + crit/surge relic (+220) + rakata power adrenal (+565): crit chance: 31.36% crit multi : 79.06% shock : 1527 crit : 2734.2462 average dmg: 1527 * (1 + (0.3136 * 0.7906)) = 1905.59240832 with self buffs + power relic (+355) + rakata power adrenal (+565): crit chance: 25.82% crit multi : 76.36% shock : 1622 crit : 2860.5592 average dmg: 1622 * (1 + (0.2582 * 0.7636)) = 1941.79598544 Finally, to me looks like i should lower *something to increase crit, but that it likely power and according to my maths it lowers my average damage thanks for reading, any assistance greatly appreicated! Daellia
Well, first off, I recommend you calculate using full raid-buffed stats, which increases your damage bonus by 5% and your crit by 5% (since your stats are self-buffed, you've already got the 5% increase to Willpower factored in). This gives you modified stats of: Willpower: 1582Power: 400Force Power: 1217Crit Rating: 281Surge Rating: 342Alacrity Rating: 198Expertise: 525 Now, this gives the following derived stats (with raid buffs): Damage Bonus: 722.73Crit Chance: 30.82%Crit Multiplier: 76.36%Activation Speed: 6.50%PvP Damage Multiplier: 10.53% Shock deals 251.16 + 156% of Damage Bonus, so that: 251.16 + 1.56*722.73 = 1378.62 * (1 + .3082 * .7636) = 1703.07 * 1.1053 = 1882.40 damage (in PvP) Now the relics. +355 Power boosts your Damage Bonus to 808.46, while +220 Crit and Surge boosts your Crit Chance to 36.36% and your Crit Multiplier to 79.06%. This results in the following damages: Power Relic: 2065.00 damage -> +182.60 damageCrit/Surge Relic: 1961.87 damage -> +79.47 damage In other words, yes, you're correct. The Power relic is significantly superior, at least for Shock. It's a bit more difficult to demonstrate that for your entire spell rotation, but I won't go into those details here. Suffice it to say that Power relics are always better than crit/surge or alacrity relics for DPS sorcs, regardless of gear setup, at least with the current stat system in place. The proc damage relics from operations tend to be superior to the power relics, but it's pretty close.
