Companion healing bugged?

I've found that healers don't relocate at all just to heal people. If the enemy they are targeting is within their range then they won't move. If someone within their range needs healing then they will heal them (usually). But if you step out of their range then they will completely ignore you and just shoot the mob.

Yeah, I agree with this. One of the few real flaws in their AI IMO. Sometimes I have to pull a fight back to them so I don't inconvenience them to have to move to the fight to heal. Silly companions.

Some fights can be a real dance of trying to get your companion to be in range and to 'not stand in the fire'. The Specialists on Makeb comes to mind (completing it solo). Sometimes he'll move the fight out of range so 'passive' to move the healer closer, then 'un-passive' to place him, but not too close otherwise he'll get hit by the AOE. And then he leaps to your healer or pulls him in, so it's 'passive' then run away, then 'un-passive' then run back. And then he jets up and shoots down fire, so 'passive' and run around the room clicking, then run to a good spot to put your healer, then 'un-passive' and hope to god you can get enough heals for the next round.

It would be really nice if they would prioritize group members like normal, but also try to run to them if they are also engaged in the same combat (i.e., not off somewhere on the other side of the planet aggroing other mobs). Even if the companions just stayed within roughly 15m of their player then that would solve most issues of them standing way in the back healing themselves and being useless. Also, if they made some attempt to avoid ground targeted damage that would be great. I'm pretty sure all of my companions' bums are pretty toasty from all the fire that they stand in.

Please post here if you find that your healing Companion Character isn't doing their job and it isn't related to your pet. When posting, please provide as many details as you can and we'll be sure to investigate.

I have a better one. Recently, I've had problems where Khem Val would occasionally just stand around unless I manually order him to attack (and he's not set to stand-by either). As my sorcerer is quite squishy, not having a companion doing their share of the work can make class quests somewhat frustrating when this bug happens.

I've also had issues on my bounty hunter where companions just stop being automatically resummoned when leaving a vehicle.

Had you attacked the mobs at all when he was just standing there? I don't know if this applies to your case, but when me and my friend would quest together with our companions out his companion would often times not attack while doing more difficult quests. We figured out that because he was spending his time healing me instead of attacking, his companion would just stand there since he was considered to be not in combat (or something). The moment he would hit something or get hit himself his companion would take off and start fighting.

Well, yeah, of course. If Khem isn't fighting, then I had to fight them all myself! My sorcerer is a healer, so this isn't impossible, just really tedious.

For me, the worst healing companion is Malavai Quinn. He is always using his blaster instead of healing.

The only solution I have found is to remove his blaster and his fighting abilities, so that he has nothing else to do than healing.

In the opposite, no such problem with Elara Dorne, Tharan Cedrax, Lokin or Talos Drelik.

They can both fight and heal.

Same issue here, matter of fact I've Quinn in HM gear and his healing is sub par compared to my other healing comps' on alt 55's.

Thought it was just me. Been playing my marauder alot lately and quinn acts like he is on vacation. He'd rather call theron cedrax holo vid and flirt with holiday. Used him in the 4 man in the black hole and he wouldnt heal for squat. If you stealthed or used rocket boots or the elevator he would go away and would have to be resummoned each time. If you're in a group and find that your companions don't appear when you get off your speeder, or when rocket boost ends, reform the group with your companions already out. This will fix it, but it can reoccur during instance switches occasionally.
