Khevar
My guild is less concerned about which class you are, and is more concerned about, "Have you done the dailies and are geared enough" and "Do you know your class well enough to play dps efficiently" and "Can you pay attention to the party leader directions"

Hence my interest in peoples subjective opinion on the matter since we cant measure ourselves.
JamieM
Well, thanks for sharing But at a point sooner or later when people are geared and are good enough, the better spec will shine through, always does. Hence my interest in peoples subjective opinion on the matter since we cant measure ourselves. If I'm honest, you've asked a pretty expansive question which to answer properly requires a lot of writing and I don't know if many people can be bothered to write that much in response to what is a pretty vague question. I can give you a very brief answer regarding DPS Juggernauts in PvE: the current view is that Vengeance is the preferred tree to specialise in. Hope that helps. Kaonis
Give it a month and whatever the "best" spec/class is will be nerfed to hell and a new one will shine only to repeat the cycle. Play what you want and stop being an elitist , it'll be far easier and save you more time.
Khevar
Well, thanks for sharing But at a point sooner or later when people are geared and are good enough, the better spec will shine through, always does. Hence my interest in peoples subjective opinion on the matter since we cant measure ourselves. That's true. But let's take a popular class, sentinel dps. I've recently played a pick up group flashpoint (story-mode False Emperor) with a sentinel I'd never met before. He broke cc, charged ahead to the next mob before we were ready and didn't focus on the same enemy the rest were working on. I managed to keep the group alive (healing Sage), but it was HARD. The next day I ran a heroic daily (Chasing the Shadow) with another group that also had a sentinel dps. He knew his class, had good gear and and excellent rotation. We destroyed every mob and finished the whole thing faster than I ever had before. I'm coming back to this point because I believe all of the dps classes, if played properly and with good gear, can be a fantastic asset to an ops or flashpoint group. If the class is fun for you personally, you'll be more likely to get better at it. And as Kaonis said above, the "best" dps, also known as the Flavor of the Month, will change during future patches. AngelFluttershy
All DPS classes and specs are very viable in PvE and PvP. There are none in PvE that notably stand-out consistently. Sentinel/Marauder, Watchmen/Annihilation spec is tossed around a lot to be some of the top DPS currently, but I have seen nearly every other class be able to match their DPS no problem. It is just the way a player builds their character that determines how effective it is. The only thing that I can say is that Gunslinger/Sniper, Saboteur/Engineering tree is fairly inefficient for PvE. It focuses a lot on AOE effects and DOTs making its single-target capabilities fairly weak. It's a great tree to invest in for PvP, but I wouldn't recommend it in the long run for PvE. Tigzie
The question is kind of pointless it doesnt really matter what class you are or what tree you have gone for its about the person behind the character does he actually know how to play? Will he play to the best of his abilities use moves at perfect tines etc ....... or is he just another one of those level 50s that lets be honest.... shouldnt have made.it past coruscant or if they were on the empire side should have been mauled by a jungle beast on dromand kaas and not allowed to respawn lol! xenofire
Considering the design of the encounters, sorc dps will win the most fights. If there was a spank and tank fight with no movement or adds, marauders and snipers would win.
