Lack of interest in Heroic Quests.

Recommended Posts

I'm level 26 (Empire) and I'm finding that on my server, which is Axial Park, that there is almost no one looking for groups for heroic quests on all the worlds past Dromund Kaas. The worlds I've noticed this on so far are Belmorra, Nar Shadda, and Tatooine. I broadcast in general chat that I'm looking for groups for specific heroic quests and typically no one responds, and a I dont really see anyone else saying that they are looking for groups either. Anyone else running into this?

Hyperspace cannon and the corsair are the same.

I have found its easier to just skip all heroics and flashpoints.

It is good that i can do this and still be over level when i get to a new planet.

The game badly needs a lfg system that forms groups for you.

You see that is the biggest issue is the majority of people do NOT want to form the group. If they are put into a group they would do it but to form it themselves no.

Many of the heroics have been messed up since launch. 2+ require full groups. takes several minutes to wade through each trash group when 2 or 3 out of 3 are gold elites with high HP.

Also, the heroics don't seem to scale with your level. Maybe I'm missing a setting for this though.

Additionally, most of the heroics are underwhelming in theme and rewards. Ever since patch 1.01 the loot drop rate has been nerfed (from my experience). You can easily make up the experience doing some PVP, space missions, or flashpoints.

Also, going back to pick them up again at later levels is bleah.

regardless of what Bioware said before launch, this game is heavily dependent on gear and loot. Probably the most dependent (other than WoW) than many.

I'm Empire on Krayt Dragon and I don't have that issue. Everyone wants to do those quests, and people are howling in chat for groups all the time. Hell, I've done a fair number of them myself. Pretty nice drops most of the time. And even if you don't get a drop, I find it fun to group up and meet new people.

...aka, come to Krayt Dragon. lol.

This is actually encouraging for me. I've been feeling like I'm missing out on a lot, and to hear that others are skipping these areas too soothes me a bit. I've had a bad time grouping- not that it's hard to form a group, but the people I get stuck with. It seems most out there just want to mob through an area without regard for the rest of the party. I get the feeling (and had it confirmed from at least one player) that many are doing repeatable flashpoints, etc.- over and over again- or at least once a day. One person told me it was their fifth time straight going through the Black Talon. Hence the mindset of sprinting through as fast as possible... I understand this, but it's not my style. I'm here for the story and game immersion, not mindlessly getting all the xp and loot you can, and screw everyone else... I regret missing out on much of this content, but the frustration of dealing with uncooperative people just isn't worth it for me. This, topped with a bad Guild experience has made me wonder if I want to continue at all- (maybe I'm missing out on too much to make it worthwhile.) My issues, I know- and I hope to find an actual Mature Guild to help me group with people I trust to work together, and share loot fairly... Maybe two LFG settings? "Hardcore" or "Casual"?

I like doing Heroics when I have the chance, but they seem largely pointless to me. You can level just fine without doing them, and you can get all the commendations you need without doing them. They're repeatable daily, but why? By the time the next day rolls around you'll be off that planet and all the Heroics will be grey.

It would be great if Heroics could somehow scale with you, but I don't see how that's possible since they aren't instanced. But either way there needs to be some reason to keep coming back to planets and doing these quests.

Have expensive items in the commendations vendor that scale to your level.

I dislike how they are dispersed, in area, level and zone. So you can spend 15-30 minutes, looking for a group, complete this quest, continue questing, and you are right back looking for a heroic in a different area. There's no flow.

In my opinion, this should have been done differently.

All main planet and class quests should be solo-able. After you complete planet quest line, the Bonus series is now unlocked, and has 3-4 Heroic group quests you can adventure on.

Currently, do section 1, wait for heroic, do section 2, get group for heroic, etc... complete planet series. Go back and do bonus series.

That has nothing to do with a lack of intrest. Bioware, not being used to make MMOs, decide in their infinite wisdom that they didn't need instance joiners nor server-wide channels. So, you can only ask the few people that happen to be on your planet... not the people 3 lkevels higher on another planet, not the people a few levels lower, nope...

And get used to playing this game like it was a single-player game, it doesn't get better at higher levels AT ALL :(

Pick up groups (PUGs) are notoriously hit and miss. I've met good people and I've met incompetent people. Your best bet is generally to find a good guild. I encourage you to seek out a guild that is a good fit for you.

I'm on a heavy to full server and during peak times, I often see people looking for heroic groups. I've done all the heroics once so far, and they are generally less interesting than the regular missions. I'm a bit of a completionist, so I make sure to see each one, but you aren't missing much if you skip a few.

I encourage you to make some effort to do the flashpoints. Those are a bit more interesting. The group you go with makes a big difference, though. Again, a guild is a good option and many guilds use a voice application of some kind, which makes it even more fun.

My main character is 39 now I have not a done a single heroic quest. Because it seems like I never find a group for that quest while I am in the area, and then after I am on the other side of the zone, I don't really feel like spending the 20min to get back there just do 1 quest.

I get a queue now some nights, and Shadowtown the server I am on says Full, yet there does not seem to be anyone out there who answers a looking for heroic post in chat. And some of these quests want 4 people! Which seems almost impossible to me.

It makes me think Heroic Quests were a bad idea and they should make them Solo.

I talked with several coworkers about this today.

We all seem to be in agreement that after the first two planets, we just gave up on heroics as pointless and tedious.

Heroics are nothing more than regular quests filled with gold elite mobs. that's it. They are an optional grind for those that love to grind.

The very name Heroic implies something that these dungeons are absolutely not. Heroic. A more apt name would be Grinders, because that is what they are.

And yes, they A: should scale, and B: be accessible at end game via a heroic droid (like the 5 thousand flashbount droids everywhere). and end game heroics should offer loot on par with flashpoints, only less of it. They could be great mini-ops to do at end game for those that love to grind but hate huge raiding groups.

Bioware's lack of MMO experience is really showing in many ways right now.

As to being ahead of the leveling curve, this is also a major issue. Pretty much all of the planets since tatooine have had an average of 10-20 people on them. It wasn't until I went BACK to Alderaan for the bonus series that it broke 35 people. A lot of us are ahead of the curve.

There is something to be said for blitzing through heroics/flashpoints once you are about 7+ levels above required level. Commendation farming is easy to do and can be fun. I will let you figure out what possible rewards can be obtained.

Join a guild that runs heroic 2/4/area and flashpoints. Another option is make friends with those players you happen to find that you enjoyed playing with. There are so many options available for you choose from. If you are on a low-population server, move to a higher-pop one.

Always use CC when mob-group difficulty is causing wipes. Always kill the healers/mobs with the lowest health first; CC a healer if multiple healers or they have high-health. If any of the above is not working for you, always use a tank, not a melee dps that says they CAN tank. Familiarize yourself with how the role/class mechanics work for each spec, so you can recognize when they are unable to keep the boss off you.

Fyi, there are only three tanks for Empire/Republic:

1) Sith Warrior (Juggernaut - Immortal) / Jedi Knight (Guardian - Defense): tank

2) Sith Inquisitor (Assassin - Darkness) / Jedi Consular (Shadow - Kinetic Combat): tank

3) Bounty Hunter (Powertech - Shield Tech) / Trooper (Vanguard - Shield Specialist): ranged tank

I leave it up to you to learn the rest (melee dps, ranged dps, burst melee dps, burst ranged dps, and healer).

*Note: forgot to mention that some companions can also be used as a tank, as long as you maintain their gear appropriately.

derp derp any excuse to turn any topic into a thinly veiled "we needz lfd toolz". You don't need these tools for heroics, the only time people want to do these is when they are right there in front of you, and you out level them in very little time. claiming this is a need for lfd is just plain old hokey nonsense.

Nost of these heroics are easily soloable with the proper companion.

Well its fine either way, weather your sprint through or you walk through. some people know what they are doing and you just have to keep up. others want to find ways to not waste time on certain things. As for groups well there are so many servers its all variety and options dude. looks this company isnt perfect but they they are doing better then most start mmo. addressing bugs fast and working on more content or rather rich content.

I wish to see more indepth with character development. but one must understand that not all aspect of the game are figured out. I like mmo like this because you find a challenge in playing this game. its not easy to figure attributes out. like the datacrons or the shards. I dont even remember when i got my blue shard but some how i did and now i have to go back. see thats what i like about this game. you just dont progress to the next level or aka world. you go back to learn more. do more. You can repeat certain aspects but there are so many missions that one can take weeks to do them all in a good fashion.

Tor is good because of its many options and aspects. I just hope space will be focus on more and well attributes that where shown in the show and movies as jedi flying or controlling bigger ships hehehhehehe. not a star destroyer or a destroyer but at least a wing or battle group. our guns are 270 for a reason and they can point in a z axis so ya know. lets get some indepth on that part of the game later on this year if you can.

Heroics are cool for people who level with a group.. I had a BH Powertech tank and my friend played a Agent operative Healer and we did the heroics as we leveled up in the area, we had no issues doing 4+ Heroics with our companions

but yeah there not necessary to level up so i'm guessing a lot of solo players just skip them instead of finding a group for them.

  • 5 weeks later...
I'd like to be able to more easily do heroics, just for the commendations. I like to get as much of the commendation reward gear for my main character and my companions as possible before I leave a planet. But as the OP said, interest is uually low and makes it very difficult, especially when you get around the level 40+ range and have 5 gearable companions. They need to add some solo repeatables to each planet to grind out commendations as well. As far as I can see, once you finish the quest lines on Quesh, there is no way to get commendations after that, aside form the rare mob drop, since there are no heroics there. Edited by Jinwe

Well, I can think of one thing that would raise interest in Heroics.. preview of the rewards. There isn't much incentive if they just say "you get exp and credits and maybe some item or commendations." If I could see right away that there's cool helm or something as a reward, I'd definitely do more HCs, right now it's just sinking time into something where you may or may not get something worthwhile.

Once you get off the leveling curve, it's a wasteland out there.

Funny how people say this... I had FIVE accounts in Galaxies, used them almost DAILY. If they had not shut it down I might even have 6 now. I keep seeing people say things like this about SWTOR... After max level there is not much to do... Many call getting to level 50 "end game". How sad... and Galaxies didn't really start til you got to max level.

If Galaxies had not been shut down, I'd still be there. I was there for almost 5 years. I do not see myself in SWTOR in 5 years...

Oh welll....
